The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge questions!  You can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 530

From this Side of the Pond

1. Oxford's Word of the Year for 2023 is 'rizz'. Hmmm...before today had you ever heard the word? Do you know what it means? (Apparently it's short for charisma) Have you ever used the word? If you were in charge of the world, what word would you declare word of the year for 2023?

I had not heard the word "rizz" until I saw this online a few days ago.  If I were in charge of the world, I would make PEACE be the word for 2023.  It's not a new word but we need it so badly!!

2. What's one word you tend to abbreviate in your writing or speech? (as in rizz for charisma)  I abbreviate appointment (appt) often, and those of us who live in Lakeland know what Lkld means.

3. Are you a Hallmark movie watcher this time of year? What's your favorite character from a holiday- themed movie, book, or TV special?  I am not a fan of Hallmark movies.  Perhaps I should watch another one but my previous experience is that they are all basically the same outline making no surprises or anything really compelling because you know how it will end.  Sorry. I'm most likely alone in my thinking.  I quit reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz for the same reason.  They may have changed as well.

4. Something you look forward to eating this month?  Too many sweets, ham, red velvet cake... (my mom always made red velvet cake for Christmas). This was a few years ago...  it's a favorite and I will make one this year.

5. What's the most stressful part of the holiday season for you?  Spending money.  I love giving and just haven't been able to give like I want to. Family and friends understand but that doesn't make it hurt less.  Like the little drummer boy, I give what I can with love.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I'm so excited about Christmas dinner and am happy I can be the hostess and so look forward to having my dear friends and my dear sister here for the holiday.  Food is a love language and I can do food!!

Peace and hugs!

Wishing you blessings today!
The SON is shining!!

  1. I find all the spending stressful too, and I think most people agree. I am with you on the Hallmark movies. I want to like them, but I find most of them too sugary for me. Have a great day Terri!

  2. Hey anything you give is wonderful and the family knows it - that is awesome.
You had me at the red velvet cake! YUMMY!

  3. I'm right there with you and Joyce on the Hallmark movies! Just the sight of that red velvet cake is making my mouth water. Giving what one is able -- with love -- is far more meaningful to me than 'things.' Hugs!

  5. Maybe, you can bake that cake for your Christmas dinner, Terri. I bet it would be an absolute hit!

  6. I know that your loved ones know your heart and appreciate anything you give. It really is fun to give.
Guess what - I'm watching a Hallmark movie right now. They really are all the same, but I think they are fun. Bob mocks them... :)

  7. Answering the questions here:
    1. Had not heard this word before. I vote with you for PEACE!
    2. I abbreviate Jacksonville as Jax, appt for appointment, apt for apartment and ave. for avenue. I also abbreviate names of family members in letters and my personal journal.
    3. I enjoy Hallmark but after Tom died, I did not watch it for a year. As you said, they’re avery predictable, but I do enjoy the sets for the stories. Gary really dislikes the background music on Hallmark movies.
    4. Somebody in my house has some serious digestive issues, so my diet is not what it used to be. Still healthy, but not the way I used to eat. That said, I’ll eat BBQ brisket any day.
    5. The most stressful part of the holiday season for me is dealing with memories that pop up. It’s getting a little easier, but I need to brace myself for that better.
    6. I’ve no random thought to share here other than all I’ve put on my own blog. I enjoy your blog so much.
