Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 678

From this Side of the Pond

1. Our November Hodgepodges always include a question related to gratitude. What is one small thing you're grateful for today?   Today?  The doctor removed my stitches, and my face feels so much better!

2. Chrysanthemums-pansies-burning bush-ornamental cabbage-camellias...your favorite in an autumn garden? Would we find any of these in your yard/garden this year?  I don't have a garden, and I'm not a plant or flower person.  Mums always look nice for Fall.

3. If you could clear out or organize one physical space or mental habit before the year ends, what would it be?  It's past time to clean out closets.  One of them has Christmas decorations stored in it, so perhaps that one (at least) will get some attention.

4. Brussel sprouts...love 'em or no thank you? If you said love 'em, how do you like them prepared?  I love Brussels sprouts steamed and served with lots of butter!  Yum!

5. It's reassuring to know that_God is in control!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  As mentioned above, my stitches were removed yesterday.  The doctor said I healed well.  There are still some restrictions, but I'm good to go.  She will see me again next month!!  Here's another photo, just to document it for posterity!  Still a little color and some swelling, but so much better!

Peace and Hugs!!

He Will Hold Me Fast, Verse 1
--Ada Habershon (1861-1918)
When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast; When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast. I could never keep my hold Through life’s fearful path; For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.

November 3rd: The Tuesday 4

Thanks to Annie for today's questions!  You can join the fun by clicking HERE!

Sandwiches and Housewifery

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4!
November 3rd is both national sandwich day and national housewife's day.
In the 1950s, working married women outnumbered working single women. In a US population of a little over 161 million, over  9 million married women worked, while only 5 million single women had jobs.  The Dagwood sandwich is based on the Chic Young comic.
"Dagwood" became very popular, and men made them for themselves; the bigger the better.
Dagwood made his own sandwiches!

1. What is your favorite sandwich? I like a Reuben, a cheese steak, or Italian beef.  But a plain old ham and cheese is always good too!  So is a hamburger!

2. Do you have a favorite Sandwich shop?  We all know that soup and a sandwich is a great lunch, but do you ever eat sandwiches for breakfast or supper?  A sandwich is always good.  I like Portillo's for their Italian Beef, any diner makes a good Reuben, and Publix Deli makes a great sub, however you want it.

3. Growing up, did your mother, grandmother, and aunts have a job as well as being a housekeeper?  My granny was a farmer's wife, and she worked hard.  My grandma was a business manager/bookkeeper for a furniture store.  My mom worked at the Post Office and, before she retired, was a substitute Postmaster for small post offices in three counties.  When she retired, she was the church secretary. One aunt was a truancy officer in the school system.  I was Mom's housekeeper!!  LOL

4. According to the United Nations, unpaid domestic labor is the number one most important driver of the entire global economy. 78% of women shoulder all the domestic and child-caring labor as well as holding down full- or part-time jobs.  Without women, the global economy would fail.  Did you juggle a family and a job?  I have always worked.  Always.  When Joe and I got married, his boys were 16 and 20, so I didn't have the worry of staying home with babies or continuing to work.  I applaud women who are able to stay at home, at least until the kids get in school.  I also applaud homeschooling these days.  My mom didn't go to work until we were all in school.

Thanks for stopping by today!
Peace and Hugs!!

Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Chorus
--Thomas Chisholm
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning New mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

November 2nd: Monday Musings

I'm not sure how Monday got here so fast, and it's also NOVEMBER!  Whoosh...

I spent a lazy weekend.  I have been able to walk each morning with Susan and Sandy, but have not ventured out beyond that.

Cheryl and her brother, Craig, came over on Saturday.  I finally got to meet Cheryl's new dog, Bozzy.  He is a puppy (7 months) and found all of the cats' toys.  They were not happy with the intrusion, but there was no trouble.  We talked for a few hours, and it got to be dinner time.  Cheryl offered to go pick something up, but I ordered Chinese through DoorDash.  It was nice sharing a meal with them.  Craig is visiting from Virginia.  He comes down a couple of times a year.  This picture is from March 2021 (a month after I lost Joe).  Craig, Cheryl, their Aunt Helen, and I.

I did not go to church yesterday, but Suzette came over with lunch for us after her church was over.  It was so good seeing her.  She is a snowbird and just got back from Wisconsin.  She talked about how happy they are with the World Series win.  She is going back for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we already have plans with Wendy in January.  This picture includes Wendy and was taken in 2023...

Tomorrow I will be off to see Dr. Ryder for my post-op appointment.  The bruising is fading away to yellow, and the swelling is much reduced.  Here is a selfie I just took  (ugh)...

I hope she will be happy with the results.  I've followed her rules!  I'm just happy I'll be able to see better and won't look like I'm squinting in all my pictures!

Today and the rest of the week are pretty chill.  I will hopefully continue to get rid of the colors around my eyes!!  Thanks again for the prayers and good thoughts!

Thanks, too, for checking in, and happy November!!

Peace and Hugs!!

From Every Stormy Wind That Blows, Verse 1
--Hugh Stowell, 1828

From every stormy wind that blows,
From every swelling tide of woes,
There is a calm, a sure retreat;
'Tis found beneath the mercy seat.
