Cheers to all of us thieves!

1. What do you think is the greatest television show of all time?  The Carol Burnett Show!

2. Would you rather win a Nobel Prize or an Academy Award?  Nobel.

3. What one food would you banish from this earth if you could?  I wouldn't banish food.  Just because I don't care for it doesn't mean someone else doesn't.

4. What’s the scariest story you’ve ever heard?  When I was a kid, it was vampire stories.

5. Who is the most famous person you have ever met?  Movie star - Justin Chambers;  Politician - Sarah Palen

6. What’s something you’ve done that most people wouldn’t know or guess about you?  I don't talk about it much (especially these days) but I worked for the FBI for four years (in administration) a very long time ago.

7. You’re strapped in a rocket ship about to go to the moon. Are you thrilled? Or terrified?  Terrified.

8. What is the correct way for toilet paper to sit on the roll?  Over!!

9. Talk about a mistake you made or something you regret.  I made a mistake with my first marriage but I don't regret it.  Everything happens as it should.

11. What makes you feel better when you’re sad or stressed?  Using that restaurant gift card! LOL

18. Were you close to your parents growing up?  Yes.  I was so very blessed by great parents.

19. What was the most life-changing event you’ve ever experienced?  There have been a few but burying loved ones much too soon tops the list.  Dad, Mom, younger brother.  Then my divorce. Many will say having their children, but I was not so blessed. My life was changed when I married Joe and was blessed by his two sons who are now mine.  I'm sure there are more!!

20. Have you ever had a falling out with a friend?   Yes.  What happened?  We never spoke again.  We were besties when I met Joe.  She would not be included in our life and (for a better explanation) was jealous and not happy for me.  Joe and I both tried.  It made me very sad.  She was involved with a married man and was living a very sad life.  I have no idea what happened to her or where she might be now.  I have tried a few times to find her.  Life.

Thanks for your visit!!
Good-bye to a very weird May!
Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9. You can join in HERE!

Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to
answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics tell us Paul believes it's going to rain. How's the weather where you are today?  Raining, with thunder!

2) Paul sings that he is sorry because he hasn't "done a bloody thing all day." What do you hope to accomplish this weekend?  Ha! Not a bloody thing!! Well, laundry!

3) He also references butter pie, which is made primarily with potatoes (with onions and, of course, butter). That dish is not popular on this side of the Atlantic. Last time you had potatoes, how were they prepared (baked, mashed, hash browned, french fried ...)?  French fried.

4) Linda McCartney is credited as a co-writer and performer on this recording. Paul and Linda were partners in real life, too; married 29 years, they raised four children together. They often said they tried never to spend more than a few hours apart. Do you enjoy a lot of togetherness, or do you value your personal time? Has your experience with Covid19 and quarantine changed how you feel about this?  Joe and I get along fine but we both enjoy some personal space now and then.  The current state of affairs hasn't made a difference since I have been retired for two years.  We are used to being together 24/7 and are comfortable with it.

5) Paul and Linda came from very different backgrounds. His family was lower middle class, lived in Liverpool's public housing, and received government aid. She grew up in affluent Scarsdale, the daughter of a wealthy theatrical attorney. Do you think it's more important for a couple to share a common background, or to share common interests?  Common interests but also common beliefs.

6) Paul is known for his work ethic. At age 78, he's still making music and performing live. What's your favorite Paul McCartney song?  I was not a Beatles fan but preferred John Lennon's songs to Paul's.  Nothing comes to mind, actually.

7) In 1971, when this song was a hit, Bobby Fischer was the world's most famous and highest-rated chess player. Do you play chess?  I play at it. I don't know the lingo but do play Joe now and then (and usually win).

8) England's Princess Anne turned 21 in 1971. The occasion was commemorated by a formal portrait, taken by celebrated fashion photographer Norman Parkinson. Who took the most recent photo of you?  How about yesterday, when Joe snapped a photo of me getting my hair cut by Teena!!  She has on a full-face vinyl mask that you can't see very well, but it is pretty great for this kind of work.  Attaches to her glasses.

9) Random question: Do you find it more satisfying to work with your hands or your head?  My hands, but even crafting takes a little brain power...

Thanks for your visit!!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Friday Fotos...

This is the third week in a row that I haven't been anywhere. No trips to the farm (Joe's client), the grocery, Sam's Club... just me in the house nursing the knee and watching TV.

Joe and I spent many hours watching three seasons of the Netflix series The Magnificent de Medicis.  It is a glorious series about Italy in the 1400s, the arts in Florence, and the introduction of Michelangelo, Botticelli, and DaVinci.  I especially enjoyed the art history!  Well researched, well written, and well-acted. I recommend it if you have an interest.  I kept Googling things while we watched just to verify or sneak ahead to see what happens.  Loved it.

Yesterday, we watched the old movie Three Coins in a Fountain, also set in Italy and the fountain in the movie (as well as other well-known sites) is the Trevi Fountain in Rome.

All of this had us talking about our trip to Italy and saying... we were there!  Or remember that?!  So, since I don't have any new photos, I have dug into the Italy trip archives to share some I'm sure most of you have seen before, but here they are again.  Bear in mind that I had a horrible point-and-shoot 10mp camera that took terrible photos inside and not such good ones outside, but here they are...

Venice.  This is someone's house.  Just pull the boat up...

Venice on the Gondola ride...

We had gelato every day. Didn't miss one!

Joe in the Gondola on the Grand Canal with the Rialto Bridge in the background.

Venice from the top of St. Mark's Bell Tower.

Looking down on the St. Mark's Basilica from the Bell Tower.
We attended Mass in the Basilica.
You weren't allowed inside the church with bare knees or bare shoulders.

This is part of the Piazzo del Duomo in Florence.
It was too big to get it all in one picture with my stupid camera.
Featured often in the Medici series as it was being built.

We visited Siena one day.

This is the Piazzo del Campo in Siena.
They have a horse race here if you can imagine horses racing on bricks.

You can't tell from the photo but this is the biggest pizza we ever saw.
It was probably 30 inches in diameter.  In Florence.

Also in Florence, Michaelangelo's David. breath-taking.

We visited the Coliseum in Rome on the rainiest day of our trip.
Very disappointing since we weren't allowed to climb in and really explore.

Joe at the Trevi Fountain. Yes, we both tossed in coins with the wish to return to Rome.

The Vatican Museum.  Not the entrance we used but worthy of the photo.

Joe in front of the Vatican.

Joe still has a cousin who lives outside of Rome. We were blessed to spend a day with him and his wife.
It was an interesting 5-6 hours since they don't speak English and all we had with us was a book to help translate since we don't speak Italian.  We gestured and they had lots of family photos we looked at. It was wonderful.  Lidia cooked a delicious dinner for us. Joe & Pepino's Aunt Lucy (lived in the Philly area) helped us arrange the meeting.  She spoke with Pepino weekly and got it all set up for him to fetch us in Rome, etc., etc.  Yes, we spoke with her from their house while we were visiting.  They asked her to find out if we liked them and they said they liked us.  Such a blessing.

Pepino and Lidia D'Orsaneo with me on their front porch.
They have two children. We did meet their adult son, Guido.

There are many more photos but this is enough for today. It was our trip of a life-time since we will never get to go again. It was a blessing to go when we did when we were both healthier and had knees that worked without pain.

Thanks for your visit!!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Whimsical Wednesday on Thursday...

I didn't notice early enough yesterday that I posted this on Wednesday instead of saving it for Thursday.  My bad.  Thanks to all who visited on Wednesday.  Maybe someone missed it so I am leaving it here for Thursday!

There is no linky and there are no rules.
Check out the dress and let us know which purse she should carry!
You can read what others think in the comments below!
(Photos from the Storybook of Dreams & Beauty.)

Polka Dots are back in style and black & white works all year long.
Which purse should she carry?

Purse #1 by L.K. Bennett

Purse #2 by Christian Louboutin

Purse #3 by Dolce & Gabbana

My thoughts:  I like the dress but am way to plump to wear it.  Purse #2 seems to match the best but I would opt for #3 because it will hold more of my stuff!  LOL  I've never been comfortable carrying a small little clutch and Joe hates putting my things in his pockets!  When I need something, he is always somewhere else.  It just doesn't work for us!  What do you think?

Thanks for your visit today!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am thankful to be off the walker and using a cane!  I even went up and down steps yesterday, preparing to leave the house on Friday for a haircut!!  Whoohoo!!!

As always, I am thankful for each of you, and for all the prayers offered!

The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 370

Thanks to Joyce for this week's Hodgepodge!
You can join in HERE!

1. The US of A celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday. Does your family have any military ties?  Yes.  If so, tell us about them.  My dad was Army; Joe was Army; Joe's two brothers were Marines; our Nephew is active Marines.  My ancestry takes me back to the Revolution and the Civil War...

2. Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, mac and cheese, macaroni salad...your favorite BBQ side?  All of those thank you very much! How many of these do you make from scratch vs. buying from the deli?  I make the beans and the Mac & Cheese but usually buy the others. I also make deviled eggs! Can't forget those!

3.  I enjoyed asking this question back when the Hodgepodge was a regular thing...Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. The 2020 list includes-quid pro quo, artisanal, curated, influencer, literally, I mean, living my best life, mouthful (word used by foodies to describe texture of food in their mouth), chirp (basically an insult, you can read more on the website), jelly (short for jealous), totes (short for totally), vibe, and OK Boomer (internet response from millennial to older generation).

Of the words/phrases listed which would you most like to see 'banned'?  You could ban them all except 'curated' because I come from the museum world and that word is very important for museums.  I would not miss the others and rarely if ever use any of them.

4. I'm sure next year's list will be filled with words springing out of this weird season we're all in currently. What word or phrase associated with the Corona would you be happy to hear less often?  Covid, of course!  If I never hear it or see it again...  and I hope it NEVER represents "Certificate of Vaccination IDentification".  Let's not forget 'self-isolation'. Yuck.

5.  The month of May wraps up in just a few days. Bid her adieu in ten words or less.  Please let next May be more like last year's May!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I am a week away from "officially" being allowed to leave the house with my knee.  Not supposed to go anywhere until the stitches come out.  BUT... I am getting my hair trimmed on Friday.  I told my physical therapist yesterday that I would be leaving the house for a while on Friday. He had me go outside and go up and down the stairs three times. I did just fine and am using a cane now, instead of the walker!! Yay!  I am still having trouble getting the bend where it needs to be but I will get there!

Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Tuesday 4 Meme...

Many thanks to Annie, our hostess, for keeping the Tuesday 4 alive and well, in memory of dear Toni.  You can join in HERE!!

Good Old Days

Welcome to Tuesday 4 begun by Toni Taddeo and kept in memory of her.
This week's subject is the Good Old Days.

1. Do you know who supplied the voice of Lamb Chop, Hush Puppy and Charlie Horse? It was Shari Lewis according to Reminisce.com.
It was a very popular kids show in the 50's and 60's.
What childhood program meant a lot to you or taught you things you feel were important to you.
The original Mickey Mouse Club with Annette Funicello and Bobby Burgess.  Loved that show!

2. Is there a memory from your past that makes you feel at home, warm, and nostalgic? Maybe you would share it with us. Perhaps there is a story your parents told you that brings back good memories.  I had a great childhood and there are many, many good memories of holidays and vacations. I was blessed.

3. Dirty Dancing was a big hit movie of the 80's. Mullet hairdos for guys and huge puffy hair for girls was a hallmark of those days.
Did you dance at school dances, Proms, etc? What kind of dancing did you enjoy?  I was in high school in the 60s so we danced all of those funky dances. Yes, I did dance and actually love to dance.  Hoping I can do it again, soon, with my two new knees.

4. Do you think we have passed by the good old days or do you think we will be able to look back and see these as the good old days in the future? Will your kids or grandkids think they were?  The "Good Old Days" is a generational thing that we all experience, so yes, the kids and then the grandkids will all look back (hopefully with fondness) to their good old days! I do mine!
------------------------------------------------------------------
We had a nice lunch with our friends Helen and Cheryl.  It was a good visit.  Not a typical Memorial Day celebration with our community potluck, but we did enjoy our visitors and food picked up from Cheddars.
I have physical therapy today and twice more this week before my stitches come out and I go to outside therapy.  Now that things have opened up more here in Florida, I am anxious to be done with my knee isolation!!

Wishing you a blessed week!!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Happy Memorial Day...

I hope you are able to enjoy the holiday as we remember our fallen who sacrificed their lives that we might remember them on this day set aside in their memory.

Helen & Cheryl are coming over and Joe and I ordered curbside from Cheddars.  We are missing our usual potluck at our clubhouse. It isn't open yet.  We will make our own party!

Thanks for stopping by today!!
Peace & hugs!!  God bless America!!

Saturday 9...

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Welcome to Saturday 9. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Battle Hymn of the Republic (1963)

Unfamiliar with Judy Garland's rendition of this week's tune? Hear it here.

Memorial Day is the federal holiday designated to honor American service people who died in battle.

1) On May 30, 1868, President Grant presided over the Memorial Day observance at Arlington National Cemetery. Have you ever visited Arlington Cemetery?  Yes, several times. We lived in that area for 12 years.  It is breathtaking.

2) On Memorial Day, it is customary to fly the flag at half-staff until noon and then raise it to the top of the staff until sunset. Will you be flying the flag at your home this weekend?  We always do.

3) Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day because flowers and ribbons were left on graves of soldiers.  Do you find solace in visiting cemeteries?  Not really but I do enjoy exploring historic cemeteries when we travel.

4) The lyrics to this week's song were written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861. Her inspiration was a White House visit with Abraham Lincoln. In 2020, public tours of the White House are available but you must request your ticket in advance from your Member of Congress (House or Senate). When you travel, do you plan your trip weeks before you go? Or do you decide how your days will unfold once you reach your destination?  We usually just wing it.  When we are on vacation, we don't like to be on a strict schedule.

5) Judy Garland performed this week's song before a live audience as a tribute to President Kennedy, who had been assassinated just weeks before. She knew Kennedy personally and considered this a farewell to a friend. While the performance was difficult for her -- at one point she flubs the lyrics -- she believed it was important, and could perhaps help the country heal. Tell us about a song that reminds you of someone you loved who is no longer with us.  Blessed Assurance. It was sung at my mom's funeral and always makes me think of her.

6) John F. Kennedy served in WWII and was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Medal and a Purple Heart. His brother Joe also served and was awarded the Navy Cross, but he received his citation posthumously, having died during a flying mission over East Suffolk, England. Here at Saturday 9, we consider everyone who serves a hero and want to hear about the veterans and active military members in your life.  My dad was an Army vet; my husband is an Army vet; Joe's two brothers are Marine Corp vets; our nephew is active Marine Corp.

7) Memorial Day is considered the beginning of the summer season. Will you be enjoying warm weather this weekend?  It has been HOT here for many weeks.

8) Berries are especially popular in summer. Which is your favorite: strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries?  I love them all as long as someone else picks them!

9) If you could attend a Memorial Day picnic with any fictional character, which would you choose?  How about several?

Happy Saturday! Thanks for stopping by!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!
