Our Pets Hold Our Hearts....
On Thankful Thursday, I am thankful to have our sweet Onyx kitty home with us tonight!
(I posted my concerns this morning on Facebook...)
He is plagued by sinus infections (and why I think mine came from him). We just finished giving him a full bottle of the antibiotic that we keep for when he gets a nasty nose. Yesterday, he seemed just fine. This morning, he was throwing up, was hot, and his eyes were not right. He was lethargic. A year or so ago, he developed a problem with his pancreas and was on IV drugs for four days. I saw similarities and is scared me.
Our Veterinarian, Dr. Jill Davis, makes house calls, and we usually have her come here, but she wanted to see Onyx at the clinic, so Joe took him in. They did blood work, and found his white count extremely high, so she wanted to do an x-ray and an ultrasound, to look for tumors.
Thankfully (and thanks for the prayers & positive energy from FB friends!), she saw no evidence of disease, other than the elevated white count. His lungs looked good, his heart looked good and there were no signs of tumors in the pancreas, gall bladder, stomach, etc. She gave him a shot of a strong antibiotic, and a steroid, as well as some subcutaneous hydration. We have a different antibiotic to give him twice a day.
He looks so much better (except for his shaved tummy). and is happily sleeping in his basket. He used the litter box when he came home, which as good to see, too.
So - sorry if this is TMI. I am an animal lover and we choose to live with cats. In the 24 years we have lived here, we have had eight cats. Four have gone across the rainbow bridge, and four are still giving us love, fun, and much pleasure.
Tomorrow, I am going down toward Miami, with Joe. He has a client there who requires an annual audit. Joe used to drive it himself, then he took the train down a couple of years, but a few years ago, I started taking a personal day from work, and I drive him down. I spend the day reading, napping, sight-seeing a bit. We have lunch together, and when he is finished, we head home. It's about a 3+hour drive, so it won't be an easy day, but thankfully I am feeling much better and am not concerned about the trip. I had a good day at work today. Our neighbor will come over to check on Onyx for us, and she will give them their dinner, since we won't be home until around 9:00 p.m.
I won't have wifi, and hate doing FB and blogging on my phone, so you probably won't hear from me until Saturday.
Thankful (on Thankful Thursday) that my friends in Tennessee did not suffer damage from the terrible weather there last night!!
Wishing you a good Friday! Peace, love & hugs!!

Back to work.....
I got back to my 'normal' schedule today. Up at 5:00 a.m. and at the office by 7:00 a.m. Not 100% yet, and may go home a little early today, but feel like I am back among the living!
Prayers and good thoughts were and are appreciated! I'm just trying to get caught up, after being away for three days. Sanitizing my hands before leaving my office, and stopping people at the door, since I am probably still contagious.

I have chicken noodle soup for lunch.
Hope you are having a good day! Thanks again! Peace, love & hugs.

10 Thoughts on Tuesday.....
Here we go....
1. I woke up feeling worse, instead of better. Called in for another day off from work.
2. I went to the doctor (Joe took me). Got drugs (Joe picked them up at Sam's).
3. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
4. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
5. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
6. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
7. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
8. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
9. Why did I wait to go to the doctor?
10. It's just stupid to wait, because the cold won't just go away without some help.
I intend to feel much, much better tomorrow! Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.
Peace, love & hugs. And three cheers for doctors and drugs!

One step forward, then two steps back....
I woke up this morning to a sore throat after a night of coughing. Now my voice sounds like I have a cold, and the coughs come in sudden waves. Miserable. I didn't go to work today, but really need to try going in tomorrow. This is ridiculous.
That's all I have to say. Thanks for checking in. Peace, love & hugs.

Feeling Better....
Well, two days of laying low (one day in bed) and being consistent with the cold medicines has put me back among the living. Good thoughts, well wishes, and prayers from my friends have been awesome, too!
This 'thing' has been unlike any cold I've ever had before. Usually my colds start with a sore throat and runny nose. This one started in my sinuses (thought it was the pollen and pressure changes) and went right to my chest. I've been taking Mucinex, Benedryl and DayQuill. I'm still coughing a bit, but am up and getting the laundry done.
This is probably going to sound silly (ridiculous, maybe), but I wonder if I got this crazy thing from our cat, Onyx. We all know that colds and viruses spread by touching our eyes and noses with our unclean hands. A few days ago, Onyx - the cat who has sinus problems almost continuously - sneezed in my face, and I didn't get my eyes closed in time to miss some of it (Ewwwww, TMI). I thought at the time - oh great, now I'll get your cold. Well two days later, I get this weird 'cold' that is unlike the one Joe had, and no one else at work has been sick. Seems crazy, but I wonder if it is possible.
My sweet husband, Joe, has been wonderful. He did the grocery shopping and has brought dinner in Friday (Chinese) and Saturday (Subway). I've told you he doesn't cook, but he is very good at take-out!
Onyx and Lilly have been hanging with "mom" and here are some photos I captured:
Lilly loves to be under the covers, and Onyx is on my lap as soon as I sit down.
I'm going to catch up on blogs now. Thanks again for all the good wishes! Peace, love & hugs.

Foggy Friday....
I have been in bed all day with a miserable cold. It started yesterday, but I thought it was just the pollen.....not. Woke up with a sore throat. I'm taking all the usual. Joe's turn to take care of me. I'll catch up with all of you tomorrow hopefully!

A Thankful Thursday....
Before my dear friend, Linda, reminded me that this can be 'Thankful Thursday', posting things we are thankful for, I read an email post about gratitude and how it can make us healthier. These two things go together quite nicely. I really urge you to read the story in the following link. It is worth the extra few minutes.
http://www.dailygood.org/view.php?sid=380
So, on this Thursday (not in any order, but just what comes to mind right now), I am thankful for:
- A job that I love, working with people I love;
- A great lunch at a new restaurant with my boss and another co-worker today;
- That I finished payroll this morning (and that we have a payroll to finish!);
- A husband who brings me so much happiness;
- Family and friends (including YOU) who keep me grounded and make me feel loved;
- A car that is comfortable, gets good mileage, and keeps on running;
- Being able to have pets at home;
- Living in a country with freedom to worship (or not) how we want; and
- My health, even with bumps in the road now and then.
Have a good evening and a great Friday!! Peace, love & hugs.

Wednesday Evening....
It was a busy day at work. Happy to see the clock tick toward 5:00!
Joe and I are supposed to be going to Bone Fish Grill for dinner tonight. We have a gift card, and Wednesday is the night our favorite Bang Bang Shrimp is only $5.00! I got home, however, to find him trying to get his tax software to work. The tech at the company has taken over his computer, and is having trouble with it, too. Now they are getting a manager to help. I have a feeling we will have to put off dinner out tonight. Such is life. The tax package is more important right now!
I asked you all to pray for my friend and co-worker, Gregory, a couple of weeks ago. He is doing great, and plans to come back to work on Monday, for half a day. Prayers do work! His parents have been here with him, since Gregory is a bachelor. They live in North Carolina. His dad is a retired Methodist minister. We invited them all to dinner on Saturday night, before his folks head north. They planned to stay until Gregory could get back to work. We have met them several times before, and Gregory visits us often and shares some of the holidays with us, when he doesn't go north. It will be fun having them. Gregory's diet is somewhat restricted, but pasta is one of the things he can have! I can do pasta! (He had part of his small intestine removed because of diverticulitis.)
That's about all I have to share today/tonight. It is cold here in Central Florida. We have a cold front sitting over us and it will be here for a few days, as I understand the weather maps. I don't mind cooler, but I can do without cold! We don't have gloves and winter coats any more! If a jacket won't keep me warm, it is too cold for me! We had to turn the furnace on last night. I know some of you are snickering, because you are below zero. It's all relative, however!
Wishing you a good evening, as I contemplate dinner in, or maybe dinner out! Peace, love & hugs!!

Ten Thoughts For Tuesday.....
I'm never sure I can come up with 10 specific things (thoughts), but here goes.....
1. It is cold today, for us...66 degrees at 3:00 p.m., and really cold is predicted for tonight!
2. Thanks for reading my two blogs that took me down memory lane (Saturday and Monday). It was a good for me!
3. Today's Board meeting went well. We have a super group of people supporting us in many ways, and an awesome staff. It is easy to work at the Museum! Still glad it is over for another month!
4. I have no idea what to make for dinner tonight. I so envy those who can plan a menu for the week ahead. I wish I could discipline myself to do that. It's always...."What do you want for dinner?" "I don't care, what do you want?" or "What do we have, that we can make for dinner?" Except there is no "we"....Joe does not cook. He can make coffee. The crockpot is the answer, but (again) it takes pre-planning and extra work the evening before to get it ready. No wonder we eat out more than we should. It's just easier!
5. One of our Board members attended today, who has been battling cancer for a second time. I am so used to seeing her in a wig, that her own gray - and now curly! - hair made me do a double-take! She looks great, though, and seems to be healthy again! Praise God.
6. My car is so dirty, inside and out! I don't think it has ever gone this long without a trip to the car wash. I think that needs to be on my list for this weekend.
7. Our cat, Onyx, is on antibiotics again. The poor boy gets a head full of nastiness and sneezes out the nastiest stuff. We are lucky if he lasts 6 weeks between having to have medicine. We have tried changing food and litter, several times. The Vet tells us that some cats just have problems like that. All I can say is that he hasn't always had this problem, it 's just the past couple of years. Any experience with this? He HATES getting the liquid antibiotic, and now he runs when we head his way, whether it is medicine time or not. I just hate that we have to do it to him. Poor baby. He is 12 years old. Maybe it's just 'getting old', like so many of my problems! (snort!)
8. I am tired today. Really didn't want to get out of bed this morning, but had to. Speaking of getting old.....
9. It is time for a bone scan, so the letter I received from the clinic says. Every two years. I need to call and get it scheduled. It doesn't hurt, is not uncomfortable - it's just a bother, checking for osteoporosis. My uncle died from complications of osteoporosis (not something men usually have to worry about) so I have a family history of osteoporsis. Getting old.....
10. I am blessed. I know I am blessed. Thank you for staying connected with me here! I value these friendships!! I miss some of my old friends, from Multiply. Linda posted the same thing on Facebook this morning, and I agree! I had 43 connections there, and heard from 25 or so daily. I miss those who didn't come to Blogger, but am so thankful for those who did! I am also thankful for the new friends I've made here.
So, there are my 10 - on to Wednesday!! Wishing you a good evening!! Peace, love & hugs.

When is a Holiday not a Holiday....
.....When I don't have the day off! Today was not a holiday for me, but I will say it was great driving in today. Very little traffic, no school buses, and then no mail to clutter my in-box!
I hope you have enjoyed your day, if you were lucky enough to have the day off from work. I dread turning the TV on tonight, because I really don't care about all the hoopla in Washington. I don't hide the fact that I am a conservative, and believe that the smaller the government, the better. Enough about that.
Thinking about the government, and reminiscing about my family over this past weekend (see my Saturday blog), I decided I wanted to write about my dad today. He died of cancer at age 63, in 1989. Lung cancer (he was a smoker) that went to his brain. Much too soon, and only two years older than I am right now. Gosh - that slams it home.
My dad, Orlyn Albert Kelly, was a great dad. He grew up on a farm. He learned to fly an airplane in his late teens (single engine), and met my mom only because she worked with his brother and wanted to ride in an airplane. Uncle Bill fixed them up!
My dad worked hard, at a job he really didn't like, to keep four kids clothed, fed and sheltered. He didn't have a high school diploma, having dropped out to join the Army, right at the end of WWII. But he worked his way up to a GS-11, as a civilian employee of the Air Force. He took his lunch to work, every day. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and if there was meat leftover from the night before, a second sandwich with meat on it. If no leftovers, he had two peanut butter sandwiches. I know, now, what a sacrifice that was for him. I would hate having the same thing everyday, dry white bread with peanut butter. God bless him. He always said that his favorite pieces of chicken were the back and neck. That was so we kids could have the drumsticks, thighs and breasts. I could cry now, thinking about it. He told jokes, and loved to talk to my friends on the phone when they called. My friends loved my folks, and our house was a great place for friends to hang out. Everyone was welcome.
He was a good handyman. He could work electricity, plumbing, and could build most anything. We always had to "do it yourself, or it doesn't get done" at our house. I learned a lot from him, and am handier around the house than Joe is - different upbringings, completely. He can butcher a steer or a hog, and I couldn't begin to do that, but I can usually fix things. Thanks, Dad!
Dad, holding me at 1 month old.
My dad made me learn how to change a tire on the car before I could take it out by myself. I had to actually change a tire, with him watching. Thanks again, Dad! Before I could take the boat out on the lake by myself, he made me learn about the motor, and how to safely get weeds out of it, or how to fix the propeller, etc., etc. He was a wise man.
My dad did not go to church with us, but he was a believer. Getting us to Sunday School and church fell to Mom, but with Dad's support - as long as he didn't have to go.
My dad was a hunter. We had rifles hanging on the wall in our house, and none of us thought about bothering them, or using them in any way other than to hunt. My dad loved to fish. My dad loved to be out on the water in his fishing boat, and would take anyone for a ride on the lake who wanted to go. (Above is my dad, my mom and Joe...)
I miss him. He retired from the government at age 55. Thank God he had a few years to enjoy his retirement. I had a great dad. Every day is father's day in my heart!
Thanks for reading my blog today. I just felt the need to talk about my dad today. Wishing you a good Monday evening and a bright Tuesday! Peace, love & hugs.

Weekend Winding Down...
If it is Sunday night, you can bet I'm sitting here waiting for Downton Abbey to start! Joe has the football game on, but he is taping it so we can switch over when it's time. He likes the Abbey as much as I do. There was an interesting segment on "Sunday Morning" today, all about the real Downton Abbey and the current owners. They get 1,200 people a day, going through the 'house', thanks to the series. It is saving their home. That's a good thing, because its history is certainly worth preserving.
My last load of laundry is in the dryer. The clean sheets are already on the bed. For what was to be a lazy day, I did get a good bit done today. I also made a freezer of home made ice cream. It is not on the diet, but if I figure the calories into my day, it feels good to have something creamy and good. There really is a difference between home made and what you buy in the store. I did not lose this week, though. Sigh. Sure wish I could just talk myself skinny!
I mentioned on Facebook, yesterday, that we finally got our Christmas decorations back up into the attic. They have been sitting in the garage, because Joe got sick and my knees have put me out of commission. It is nice to be able to walk through the garage again, without dodging tubs of decorations. Here is a photo, though keep in mind that I did not empty all the boxes this year. Seems I put out less and less each year, but all the boxes came down, and all had to go back up.
My sister, Patti, called this morning. My niece, Kelly, graduates from high school this spring, and they finally have a date for us. It will be Friday, May 24th. That is Memorial Day weekend, so I will save a vacation day. Of course, traffic will probably be worse, but no matter. Our granddaughter, Lauren, will graduate from college this spring, too. Not sure about the date for hers. We will have to try to work it all out.
I am having lunch with my friends, Helen and Cheryl, tomorrow. Looking forward to that. Tuesday is our Board meeting. I'm always happy to put that behind us. Wishing you all a pleasant sleep and a good Monday!! Peace, love & hugs!

Childhood Memories With Photos...
I so enjoyed reading my friend, Judy's, list of top childhood memories and seeing her photos. I have been looking through old photos this morning, and must say that I have so many more than 10 - I could bore you to death!! LOL Keeping in mind that this is childhood, here are some of the photos and memories I decided to share. They are not necessarily all my top memories, but are the ones I decided to share with you....
Okay, so I really don't remember this photo, but since all of us probably have a 'naked on a blanket in the backyard' photo, I thought I would post it. LOL
I posted this one, only because sucking my thumb was a big part of my life until I was about 8 years old. I was a thumb sucker.
This was taken on my grandparents' farm. I have been an animal lover all my life!
A little out of order, but these are my dear Willman cousins. Bobby, left end, is the cousin who was just here with his two kids and two grandkids, for our visit to Legoland. They were like my brothers and sister, growing up.
Good memories of Mrs. Looker, who was our neighbor. She had an apple tree in her yard, and would let me pick apples. I remember leaving May Day baskets of flowers on her front porch, ringing her bell and running to hide! Of course she knew who did it, but never let on.
My dad built this pontoon boat in our back yard. It was docked, all summer(s), at Rocky Fork Lake, and we spent most weekends there, where family members joined us for boat rides, swimming, fishing and picnics. Wonderful, wonderful memories. In this picture, from the left, my mom, with my brother in front of her, then my grandma holding baby sister Tammy, with middle sister Patti in front, in the life jacket. Then my grandpa, me, my dad, and my Uncle Charlie. Aunt Mabel must have taken this picture.
A neighborhood production of the Wizard of Oz. I was Dorothy (tall blond in the back). Our neighbors had 10 kids in the family (eventually, 12) and I spent lots of time at their house, playing. Their mom, Joanne, wrote the play. We rehearsed it for days, and finally had show day. We charged everyone a nickle to watch! LOL
I mention her frequently in my blogs, and she reads my posts by e-mail. I haven't been able to get her on Blogger (or Multiply) but she responds to some of my posts by email (hug!). This is my BFF Elaine. We have been friends for more than 50 years now. Yikes!! I think we were 10 when my family moved into the house across the street from her and her family. I consider her my sister. She used to call my folks mom and dad, and I still call her mom, Mom. We had some great times growing up.
Here we are, sharing a summer vacation in Canada. My dad loved to fish, and we always spent our summer vacations in Ontario, Canada, at a fishing camp on Rice Lake. We would bring coolers (plural!) home, packed with frozen fish. I still love fresh water filets, breaded with Old Bay Seasoning and fried. Like potato chips, they are so good!
That's my mom, holding up her big catch (my grandpa is standing in the background). This is the table where the fish got cleaned. We all had to help, in some way, if we wanted to eat fish. And we had fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner while on vacation! We rented a three-bedroom cabin. There was cold water in the kitchen sink, but we had to use the outhouse (see photo of Elaine and me above - outhouse in background). My grandparents had their camper, as did Elaine's family. When the cousins joined us, they rented another cabin.
My best high school memories are of being in the band. I was in marching band and concert band. I started playing trumpet in 5th grade, actually, and was also in the Jr. High band. The parade photo shows me at the end of the trumpet row. I'm actually the first full person you see from the right side of the photo. Our summer 'uniforms' were black shorts and white tops, with white socks and white tennis shoes. The upper photo is me in our uniform for football games and contests. I LOVED band. Loved it.
My other love in high school was art class. I was on the yearbook committee (see photo below) and actually swiped these two photos from the yearbook room before I graduated (some others, too, I confess!). I was voted "most talented" senior girl, because of my art. I wanted to be an art teacher. Now, because of choices and the paths we end up on, I am the accountant at an art museum. It could be worse. I think I probably make more money than an art teacher (not that money is everything).
I'm not sure which club photo this is, really, because I was in a few, but I think this was part of the yearbook committee. Mike, Susan, me, Connie and Ann. I've seen Mike and Ann since we graduated, but have lost track of Susan and Connie.
And my last childhood memory to share today (whew, aren't you glad!!!) is of my first prom. I was a sophomore, but was 'going steady' with a Junior. Felt pretty special, going to the Junior/Senior prom when I was a sophomore. We had some fun. He lived only a block away from my house, and we lived only a block away from the school. This was taken in my front yard. I lost track of Archie (nickname) after we graduated. Heard some unpleasant things about some troubles he had, but he recently asked to connect on Facebook. There are a bunch of my high school friends on Facebook now....almost like a reunion. I was happy to know he is okay.
So, there you have my walk down memory lane! I had fun. Thanks for looking! We are off to 4:00 Mass, then out to eat, followed by a trip to Publix for groceries. Tomorrow will be laundry and nothing else. Joe is THRILLED that hockey is back. He is taping the Flyers so he can watch it when we get home.
Peace, love & hugs!

Five For Friday.....
I made that title up, but do plan to make a list of five things, since I'll be home late this evening, it is better for me to post on my lunch hour today.
1. It is COLD here in central Florida today. 39 when I came to work, and only 55 right now. We'll be this way for a few days, I think. I really don't mind. It's nice to get out my sweaters and long-sleeved tops.
2. We have an opening reception tonight, for our new exhibits. Maggie Taylor, and Louviere+Vanessa, will all three be here to talk about their work. I so look forward to hearing the artists talk about the thought process that goes into their art. All three are photographers. Maggie Taylor is married to Jerry Uelsmann (http://www.uelsmann.net/), who is quite famous and has works in our permanent collection. I love Jerry Uelsmann's work. You might be familiar with some of his images.
3. There is a wholesale gift market in Orlando this weekend. You might remember that Joe and I went back in August (they have them twice a year). I don't think my knees will make it this time. The parking lot is far, far, far from the doors of the Orlando Convention Center, and the Center itself is huge. If I still had the scooter, I wouldn't hesitate. Wish I could afford to buy one! Also, I haven't made anything with the supplies I bought in August. Joe keeps mentioning that I'm not creating jewelry... perhaps I should get started again before going to anymore markets!
4. I just finished a very fun book on my Nexus7, called "Dearly Departed in Deadwood", by Ann Charles. I am going to start the second in the series, "Optical Delusions in Deadwood", tonight. Both were free, and the first one was quite entertaining. I read for entertainment, and am happy to get lost in a story and not have to think too hard about what is going on.
5. And last, I just wish you all a good weekend! Hope you can relax and do only what you feel like doing. I think that is what I'm going to do!! Enjoy! Peace, love & Hugs.

Friday Eve!
Good morning on this chilly Thursday morning. We are finally going to have some 'sweater weather' and I can't wait. Our AC has been turned back on since before Christmas. I'm ready to open the windows and doors again, and let some fresh air into the house! AND, I can wear some of my sweaters and long-sleeved tops! I think our highs over the next few days will be in the low 70s/upper 60s, with 40s at night! It will feel so good!
My friend, Judy, has issued a challenge. She posted 10 memories from her childhood on her blog today, and challenged us to post our top 10 favorite memories. I told her I had to think about it, and take some time to gather some old photos together, but I will do it this weekend. I'm going to forward her challenge to my friends here. It was fun reading hers, and seeing her photos. I would love to read yours, too! Please join in!
Another busy day ahead for me, but tomorrow is finally Friday. After the opening reception tomorrow evening, I have no plans for the weekend. Whew! Nice! Oh, and tonight is my facial night, so I will be relaxing nicely into my Friday and the weekend.Wishing you a good day!! Thanks for stopping by! Peace, love & hugs.

Peace, love & hugs!! Downhill to the weekend!

Ten Thought Tuesday.....
Before Tuesday is over, I'll post my ten thoughts for today (if I have that many left! LOL).
- It was hard getting out of bed this morning. My second alarm went off, and thank goodness I had set it!
- Only one cat threw up this morning. Things were better!
- I finished the December financials today!!
- It is budget time at the office - that is, next year's budget time. I distributed worksheets to department heads today. Ugh.
- My friend and co-worker, Gregory, got to leave the hospital today, and he is doing well. Thank you to those who have been praying for him. The surgery was successful.
- My friend, Matt, had his surgery on Monday, and his wife emailed that he is doing better than expected. Thank you again for your prayers.
- I finished a good book on my Nexus 7 yesterday. "The Fox" by Arlene Radasky. It was a free one, about an archeologist who discovers her family line on a dig from 75 AD! I really enjoyed it. If you like something that is out of the ordinary, and like family history and archeology, check it out!
- I got home from work and Joe suggested dinner out at the Texas Roadhouse. I did not argue. They have a great 6 ounce sirloin and I had a baked sweet potato and steamed veggies with it. Not too many calories, and delicious!
- We have a members opening reception this Friday, for our two new exhibits at the Museum. Maggie Taylor and Louviere & Vanessa. Check out our website for more information on these great contemporary artists! www.PolkMuseumofArt.org
- I cherish my friendships here! Thanks for checking in tonight! Peace, love & hugs.

Monday, not a Funday....
Today is payday, so that's a good thing that happened today (except my check was 2% less than last pay!).
My morning started with two cats fighting, and then FOUR cat throw-ups. They eat too fast, to keep the food from the others, then they just throw it up. Pardon the visuals, but that's how my morning started. There are enough cat bowls in different places. It isn't usually like this, so I don't know what their problem was this morning. Geesh.
At work, I've been working on investment statements all day today, trying to finish up so I can write the December financial reports. Perhaps I'll finish tomorrow. It's been one thing after another! One account has a deposit in it that I don't believe belongs to us. I've been working with the investment manager to figure it out. Now she tells me the trace will take up to two weeks! Good grief. I think this money belongs to someone else....you would think they would miss a nice tidy sum ($6,000+). The only other thing it could be is a gift from someone, but we usually get a heads-up when that happens. Then, two account statements from the same place hadn't arrived yet, so I asked them to fax them over. They sent the wrong ones, so I had to go through it again. Sigh. It isn't usually this difficult to get the statements reconciled.
I am hungry today. My diet is causing my stomach to growl. I'm not complaining, just making a statement. It means it is working. You are supposed to be hungry before a meal. I'm looking forward to some leftover meatballs and pasta for dinner!! I guess this all sounds like grumbling. I'm sorry. It is what it is today! LOL Not much else to write about or report. Hard to believe January is nearly half over already!
Wishing you a good evening and week ahead! Peace, love & hugs!

Sunday, Sunday....
My, oh my. It has been a very lazy day! I slept in LATE. I can't tell you the last time I was still in bed at 10:45 a.m. Good grief! Of course, I didn't get to bed until almost 2:00 a.m.
I still had clean dishes to put away this morning, but got that done (before noon!). Joe is still feeling kind of run down. His cold is better, but he is tired. Three more days of antibiotics for him. It takes time.
Neither on of us has been very hungry today. I have leftovers, but we haven't felt like eating. Have just been snacking here and there. I'll take leftover ravioli for lunch tomorrow. I am happy to report that I have lost 5 pounds!! Need to keep at it!
I'm getting the laundry done, but that is about all I have done today. And that is about all I have to share! It's been one of those days!
Getting ready for Downton Abbey and Revenge tonight! Also Once Upon A Time.... Sunday is a good night for TV in our house!
Peace, love & hugs to all as we wind down and get ready for another week!
Whew, what a day!!
I didn't make it to the Museum this morning, for the breakfast event. I didn't have a job to do for it, but was just going to check in for a few minutes. I got up and got started on the wedding cake for our dinner, then got the sauce started. By then, the event was starting and I was still in my PJs. Put it out of my mind, and started cleaning this dirty house. Between Joe being sick and my bad knees, not much had been done since before Christmas.
I got the cleaning done, and got everything ready for dinner, with time to spare. Joe went to Mass, but I stayed home. Asked him to pray for me.
We had a wonderful time tonight! Everyone got here by 6:15, and no one left until shortly after 11:00!! We just had a great time catching up, and everyone seemed to enjoy the food. We had fun getting Fran and Bob to cut the cake and feed each other. Fran took the top tier home, to freeze for their first anniversary.
Everyone helped clear the table before they left. Joe helped me get all the dishes done and things put away. The dishwasher is full, but there were still quite a few dishes to wash by hand. It didn't take long. Now I am sitting here with Joe, who is watching a football game he taped (Ravens and Denver). It is 12:30, and I am exhausted, but can't just go to bed. I need a little time to decompress!
So, here are some of the pictures I took. The antipasto for before dinner, the cake, and the bride & groom. The cake turned out okay. I hadn't done any cake decorating for 17 years, and am a little rusty. I told Fran it wasn't a thing of beauty, but it was a labor of love! I totally forgot to take a photo of the ravioli lasagna, my really pretty salad and the yummy garlic bread. But, these I did get....
And this one doesn't have anything to do with tonight's party, but I thought it was so pretty seeing all the white pelicans on Lake Morton a few days ago! Took the picture and just forgot to share it....
Good night (or good morning!). Wishing you a good Sunday! Peace, love & hugs.

Made it to Friday!!
The first full work-week of the new year is behind us! Hooray!
We grabbed some Chinese for dinner, and went to Publix for some last minute needs, for the dinner party tomorrow night.
Got home and I got the cakes in the oven. They are cooling. I will ice them and decorate tomorrow. While the cakes were baking, I made the meatballs and thawed the Italian sausage. They are all in the oven now.
Tomorrow morning I'll get the sauce started and then get the cleaning done. Guests are arriving at 6:00, so I will have plenty of time to get ready. The ravioli lasagna will go in the oven when friends start to arrive. We will enjoy drinks and antipasto during the first hour or so.
I do need to run to the Museum first thing tomorrow. We are having an event. It's not one I have to help with, but I feel like I need to pop in for a little while. That will at least get me out of bed early so I can be off and running. It starts at 9:00.
Wishing you all a good weekend!! TGIF!! Thanks for checking in. Peace, love & hugs.

It is Finally Friday Eve!
Made it to Thursday! The weekend is almost here.
My day started at the Economic Forecast Breakfast, hosted by the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce. I always get two free tickets, and would go even if I had to pay. There were about 700 local business leaders there. Brian Wesbury is the speaker. He is an economist, and his forecast is usually right on target for the year ahead. You can read more about him here if you are interested. He predicts that real estate is the place to invest right now. He expects it to continue on an upswing over the next 10 years. That was good news, indeed.
I had another productive day at work. That is good news, too!
I had a call from the clinic, to tell me that my orthopedic doctor was called to surgery. I could either see is PA (Physician Assistant) or reschedule next week. I decided to go ahead and see the PA. She is good. She offered me another shot of cortisone, or the option to wait a couple more weeks, since it is getting better. She believes it is still more of an inflammation problem, that may continue to improve. The tear in the meniscus is small and probably is not ready for surgery. She even said that the surgery might kick-start the arthritis to get worse. We also talked about trying to get the insurance company to agree to Synvisc, one more time, for my right knee, and she agreed to put in the request. Made an appointment for one month, with the doctor. I can go earlier, if needed. So, still in some pain from both knees, but I am managing. Hope the left one continues to improve.
Thanks to those offering prayer for Gregory, Matt and Bella. Gregory's surgery went well. I'm going to see him at the hospital tomorrow. Matt's surgery is Monday. There is not a decision yet on the next course of action for Bella's cancer, but updates are on Facebook.
Wishing you a good evening and Friday!! Peace, love & hugs.

Over the Hump Day....
Joe still has some swelling from the infected gland, but is feeling 95% good now. When I got home from work, we took off for Sam's Club. I had a prescription to get, and some more things for the dinner party on Saturday night. We went to IHOP for dinner. They have omelets made with egg substitute, with fresh fruit on the side, for only 320 calories! Awesome! Then we went to Party City for some cake decorating supplies. I think I am just about ready. We'll need to go to Publix on Friday for a few more things, and that will be it.

I had a good day at work. I got the 1099s out today, and did the prep work for my W2s, so I can run them tomorrow. I did payroll today, and warned everyone at the staff meeting to be prepared for a 2% decrease in their checks. The cut in the employee portion of the social security tax that Obama put in place when he took office the first time, has been taken back. I won't go into the stupidity of the cut, in the first place, but after having it for four years it is a serious cut in pay. The first of more to come, rich or poor, everyone will feel it.
I had a surprise in the mail tonight! Veronica is the woman who takes care of the feral cat colony and captured our Lilly (and then talked us into taking her!). We were chatting by email last week, and she told me she had just published her second book. Her first book is about her father, who captained movie star, Errol Flynn's yacht, named Zaca. She sent a copy of her first book to me!! How nice is that?! I will enjoy reading it, for sure. It can be found on Amazon: Link Here
Here pen name is Bonnie Cother. What a interesting woman! I'm so glad to have met her, and am enjoying getting to know her better. She is from Australia, and has a lovely accent!
Tomorrow morning, I will have breakfast with our Director of External Affairs, at the Chamber of Commerce's annual Economic Forecast Breakfast. It is always interesting. Tomorrow afternoon is my appointment with my orthopedic doctor, about my knee(s). You know I will keep you posted.
That's about all I have for tonight! Same old, same old. I am looking forward to Saturday! Hope your day was good! Thanks for stopping by. Peace, love & hugs.

Is it only Tuesday?!....
I don't know if it's because I've been so busy at the office, or that I was off so many days, but it sure feels like it should be, maybe, Thursday?!
Joe is feeling SO much better, and the swelling in his face has gone down to almost normal. He wanted to eat tonight, and he even shaved! Appetite is back, and he plans to get out to his client's office tomorrow. Whew! This is so good, and also good - so far, I haven't caught it.
I started digging out my cake supplies tonight. I kept some of my tools when I sold my business, back in 1993. I owned and operated "The Wedding Cake" bakery for four years, back when we first moved here. Cake decorating was a hobby before then. When I couldn't find work, after we relocated to Lakeland, FL, from the metro D.C. area, I went to work for Alicia, who owned the business. After working with her for six months, she asked me if I wanted to buy it from her. She was sick of doing cakes. Alicia was a registered nurse. She worked at Tampa General Hospital on Sunday - Wednesday. She did the cakes Thursday-Saturday. Her husband was not employed, and he helped her with the baking and clean-up. (I actually hired him a few times to help me with deliveries.)
I bought her out. She let me keep the name, the phone number, and the cakes that were still on the books. The price was good. Awesome way to get started. I did it for four years. It was a killer. I didn't have Joe to help (except sometimes late at night and sometimes for deliveries on Saturdays). He was busy getting his CPA practice established. I did it all by myself. I averaged 4 wedding cakes a week, plus birthday cakes, shower cakes, etc. I don't regret it. It was actually wonderful and a great experience. Food service is grueling, though. I got so busy that I needed to either move to a bigger space and hire people to help, or get out of it. In 1993, I was fortunate to get a job as the Business Manager at the local Catholic High School, and was able to sell most of my equipment. Larry took over the space and the phone number, but changed the name, and he does catering, too. He is still at it, all these years later. God bless him.
I don't think many of you knew I used to do cakes, and I had a couple of comments about it, so thought I would explain. I left the High School to work at the Museum, where I have been for almost 16 years. It has been lots of years since I did a wedding cake, so doing one for our wedding celebration dinner party on Saturday will be fun. I will definitely have pictures for you.
Not much else to talk about tonight! We loved the start of Downton Abbey, and were happy to see the first episode of the new Revenge season! This week brings back many of our favorite TV shows!
If I can ask my prayer partners to please offer healing prayers for my friend and co-worker Gregory. He had surgery today, which was successful, but he has weeks of healing ahead of him. Another friend is facing open-heart surgery on Monday to repair a birth defect that he thought would not have to be done until he was in his 60s or 70s. Pray for Matt and his surgical team, please. If you are connected to me on Facebook, I asked for prayer for Bella. She is a child who has been battling cancer most of her precious life. Two more tumors were just found, and the latest chemo didn't work. Please pray for Bella and her family, too. Thanks so much!
Hope you are having a good evening! Peace, love & hugs.

Monday, Monday....
Joe is feeling better this evening, as far as the cold goes, but - oh my - his face is so swollen from that infected gland. It has 'grown' around his face and is causing him some real pain. If it isn't better by Wednesday, he has to see the doctor again (my orders!). I know the antibiotics take longer than a day to work, but poor baby is hurting. The only thing I've ever seen that is even close to the swelling is mumps....but we know it is an infected saliva gland. Whew!
Work was good, though! I got most of my quarterly reports done today, and can now move on to W2s and 1099s. I also have the December bank statements and financial reports to do, but I'll have a good productive week. No worries.
Looking forward to our dinner party/wedding celebration on Saturday. I need to get to Hobby Lobby some time this week for cake supplies. I need a cake topper, and I need some colors. Will also need some supplies from the grocery for the icing (yes, Crisco). Decorator buttercream is made with Crisco, not butter. I don't have clear vanilla anymore, so I am planning to make the icing a beige color. My friend loves carnations. It's been years since I tried to make icing flowers. I'll have to practice a bit. Roses are easier, and that may be what she gets!
My knee is feeling enough better that I am not hobbling/limping as bad. I see the orthopedic doctor on Thursday. My insurance company has turned down my appeal about the Synvisc, so I guess I will go ahead and start the Euflexa injections, too. Grrrrrrr. I'll keep an open mind, and hope that the Euflexa will work for me. Not sure what he will say about my left knee and the torn meniscus. I don't think he will suggest surgery....maybe Euflexa injections in it, too. That needle is no fun, but will hopefully make a difference. The week is off and running! Thanks for checking in. Peace, love & hugs.

Urgent Care Visit....
We woke up this morning and Joe's face was swollen on one side. Last night, he complained that his glands were hurting, on each side of his neck. One side is obviously infected. So....off to Urgent Care. Happy they opened at 9:00 today.
He has an infected saliva gland, and the doctor told him it was from all the coughing. He now has an antibiotic, a nasal spray, and cough medicine with codeine. Thank goodness for the swollen gland!! He would never have gone to the doctor if that hadn't happened. Oh my, though. The prescriptions came to over $323. Thank God we could get them, but they surely do get you, when you don't have prescription coverage. He gets most of his meds from Sam's Club (generics) or from the VA, for $8.00 each. When we can't take advantage of either of those options, it's a killer. I'm just glad he will now get better much more quickly. By Wednesday, he should be feeling much, much better. So far, I have been able to avoid it. Still sanitizing and making sure we aren't sharing silverware or glasses. Thank goodness for Clorox!
I'm getting Christmas put away, and doing laundry. Put the cleaning off and will work on that evenings and next Saturday. The dinner party starts at 6:00 p.m., so I'll have plenty of time to prepare.
Looking forward to Downton Abbey tonight! I am going to stay up for it. I am usually in bed by 9:30 or 10:00. It won't be over until 11:00. Monday will be a day of yawning! ;)
We have a beautiful day, today. Able to have the doors and windows open, with the ceiling fans on. Love this weather!!
Wishing you a good Sunday and week ahead! Peace, love & hugs.

Downton Abbey Tomorrow Night!!!....
Joe feels better, but is coughing, coughing, coughing! Poor baby - now his head hurts when he coughs, worse than his back and ribs. I am still taking Mucinex and ZiCam so I don't catch it. Found out today that our friends, Al and Helen, are also sick with bad colds. We did not go to church this evening.
Anyway, we did get out this morning, and went over to St. Pete, so we could shop at Mazarro's Italian Market. I stocked up on their imported pasta, which tastes almost homemade. We also got some olives and peppers to go on the antipasta plate for next Saturday's dinner party. I just love that market. Sure wish there was one here in Lakeland. It's 56 miles to go over there. At least today the traffic was great. No accidents and no back-ups on I-4 or I-275. I asked Joe to take a hanky so he could catch his coughs before they traveled around the car and into me! Bless him, he did.
Driving through the Plant City area, we could see the fields of strawberries looking healthy and bright green. Strawberry season is almost upon us, here in Central Florida. Plant City is home to the annual Strawberry Festival, bringing lots of visitors through the area. I can't wait for some fresh Florida berries....just a few more weeks!
When we got back to Lakeland, I ran into Walgreens for more Mucinex and happened to see the TV guide for this coming week. It has Matthew and Mary on the cover. I am so excited that Season 3 starts tomorrow night. If you aren't watching Downton Abbey, find it on-line and catch up. It is such a good show. World War I just ended, and things are changing. This will be a great season, starting with Matthew and Mary's wedding.
Joe is enjoying all the football this weekend. He helped me get the boxes down from the attic. I have the tree down, and only need to pack away the rest, which I have gathered on the dining room table. It won't take me long to finish, then we can get things put back up in the attic. Whew. I usually have all of it done on New Year's Eve day.
Cleaning and laundry tomorrow. Hope you are having a good Saturday! Peace, love & hugs.

T.G.I.F......
Thank goodness it's Friday! It has been a short week, but hard getting back into my work routine! I could sure get used to being retired..... (maybe in another six years).
It is quiet at work today. Lots of people still have this week off. Makes it nice to get caught up, though, and I am! Happy to have left my cane at home this morning. My knee is still painful, but I can walk slowly without making faces, so it is definitely better (LOL). Still have my appointment with my ortho doc next week.
Joe was feeling much better last night, but he is still coughing a lot, and hurts from doing that. He was going to try going to a client's office this morning, to do some payroll stuff for them. Haven't heard from him, so hope he was up to it. We are planning (if he feels okay) to go back to Mazarro's Italian Market tomorrow, since we missed them on our last trip to St. Pete (they were closed for the holidays).
Next weekend, the 12th, we are having a dinner party for some friends who sneaked off and got married just before Christmas. Didn't tell any of us! I am going to make them a 2-tiered wedding cake for dessert, after an Italian dinner. This is our usual group of dinner party friends, so there will be eight of us. Just right! F and B have been seeing each other for 5-6 years, and have talked about marriage along the way, but just never did it. He lives in Ocala (two hours away) and F is here. F worked in Ocala for a time, and that is when they met. Now they have been splitting their time between each home. Not sure what they are going to do long-term. Time will tell, I guess (or we'll find out next Saturday!). One way or the other, we are all happy for them! F is retired from the Sheriff's office. She was a Lieutenant. B is also retired law enforcement, from New Jersey. They do have some stories to tell!!The other two couples have also been friends of ours for a dozen years or more (more, I think). M & ME - M is an Ophthalmologist, but works free-lance now, doing research on bio-medical stuff. ME teaches non-credit computer classes for adults at the local community college. E & L - E is a retired engineer and L is a retired accountant. They are retired because they won the Florida Lotto a few years ago ($22 million). It CAN happen!! They are doing it right, and are not changed at all (except for a new house and cars). They have two great kids and six grandkids - all sweet as can be. We are all blown-away happy for them. Good people.

So, I am looking forward to next Saturday. Need to finish putting Christmas away first, though. Joe has to get up in the attic to hand down the tubs and boxes so I can fill them up again. Then, of course, they must go back up. This will happen tomorrow and Sunday - I hope.
Wishing you a good Friday evening and a great weekend!! Peace, love & hugs.
