Throw Away Thursday...

I thought I was making up the title, but when I went to the cloud looking for images, there were quite a few Throw Away Thursday images. Amazing.  A play on "Throwback Thursday" - who knew?

Work is smoothing out. Whew!

I am throwing away my Nexus7 Tablet.  It died on me after three years.  I put a new battery in it, as suggested by our techie guy/friend at work (actually, he swapped it out for me) and that didn't bring it back.  He told me three years---throw it away.  I've been reading my book on my smartphone since then, which is just crazy.  Kindle Fires were on sale a few days ago, with an option to pay over five months.  Sold.  I got my new one yesterday!!  I am SO happy with it.  It is the Kindle Fire HD7!!  Whoohoo!  Happy girl here.  All of my apps have been downloaded and I am ready to start a new book on my new tablet.

We had a potluck breakfast at work yesterday, to celebrate 2nd quarter birthdays.  I took breakfast deviled eggs, made with bacon and cheddar cheese.  They were a hit and I had an empty container to bring home.  I took a dozen and a half eggs, so there was a bunch (36) on the plate!

It is hard to believe this is the last day of April.  Time is just flying. Wishing you a good April 30th!! Peace & hugs!

No Hodgepodge Today!! :(

Our Hodgepodge Hostess is taking this week off.   I think I'll just leave it at that, and take today off from blogging!

This is a frustrating and busy week at work, and I can't talk about that here.

I hope your day is a good one!!  I'm turning off comments since there really isn't anything to comment on.  Prayers always appreciated, however!!

Peace, love & hugs!!

Tuesday Tidbits....

My blogging friends (you!) post lovely garden photos, or lovely vacation photos, or interesting family photos....

Makes my silly "tidbit-mishmash" posts seem so trivial. A few of you only post once or twice a week, and days like this, that makes so much sense!  I really have nothing.

Work was work.  I did go home last night to a beef roast in the crockpot!  I got it ready the night before, and Joe got it started for us.  I use the liner bags and that makes it so easy to get it all ready for him to just pop it in and turn on the crock.  I leave before 7:00 a.m., and for an 8-hour recipe, it doesn't need to be started until between 9:00 and 10:00.  Works out great for him to start it.  Makes finishing with potatoes and a veggie real easy.  Clean up is even easier....just toss the bag and it's left-over contents, and wipe the crockpot.  Left-overs for dinner tonight!

Are any of you interested in genealogy?  I love the show "Who Do You Think You Are"!! We tape it so I can see it when I have time to enjoy it.  I belong to Ancestry.com and to the D.A.R.  I have the family tree back quite a few generations, and we also did the DNA testing.  What I miss is the more personal information that the stars on the TV show are able to find out about their ancestors.  I think I need to start concentrating on census information and newspaper articles.  I would love to know if anyone connected here has had success doing this??

I'll stop. My May will be much more interesting!!  I promise!  LOL   Thanks for coming by.  Peace & hugs!

Monday Mishmash....

Monday sure did get here fast!!  It was a good weekend and I feel refreshed, but could have used an extra day!!

Grandson Tristan's Senior Prom was Saturday.  We weren't there to see him but did get this photo from Kathy....  I had to chuckle.  The pants are too long and the sleeves are a little short, but they both look fabulous.

I bragged a few blogs ago about Tristan deciding on SMU, so (being a grandma!) I had to order a T-Shirt for Grandpa, and this for me.....

I sent him a photo of it, and he replied "Awesome!".  I asked the body shop guys, who put my new back bumper on, to attached this to the front bumper.  Florida doesn't have a front license tag, so we can put whatever we want on the front. This makes me happy!

Our swimming pool isn't quite warm enough for me to want to go swimming yet, but I think another week of 90° weather will warm it up for this coming weekend!

Well, on to another week!  Let's pray for a good one, for all of us!  Peace & Hugs!

Sunday Stealing/Funky Twenty-five

Funky Twenty-five

From our Host at Sunday Stealing:  Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from. We also provide a link to the victim's meme in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from this new meme or recently asked questions from a previously featured meme.

Cheers to all of us thieves!!!

Funky Twenty-Five Meme

Stolen from: The now-defunct Tense Teacher

  1. Most unflattering hairstyle you ever had? What made it so unflattering?  4th grade. Just look at it.

 2. Favorite movie(s) that were made in the 90's?  Fargo, Green Mile, Independence Day, Schindler's List, Silence of the Lambs, Forest Gump, American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction....

3. Do you rent movies? If so, from where?  Only from Netflix or Amazon.  We own over 800 movies, so could start our own rental business....

4. Do you like cookies better when they're just out of the oven or after they've cooled?  Usually when they have cooled, but I always have to have one while still warm.

5. Do you still talk to the person who gave you your first kiss?  No, and I don't really remember who it was.  A favorite Junior High School party game was "Flashlight" and that is where I got my first kiss.  I have no idea who it was.  Anyone else play Flashlight?

6. Did you go to pre-school? If so, what was the name of it?  It would have been about 100 years ago! No, I went to a private kindergarten, but no preschool.  I had a stay-at-home-mom.

7. How do you take your coffee? I usually drink it black, but can also drink it sweetened with cream.

8. Do you like fuzzy things?  Not especially, unless you count our cats!

19. What's your favorite kind of pancakes?  Plain buttermilk pancakes, but I'm really not a big pancake fan.  I make them for us once a month or so.  Two or three are enough for me.  I'd rather have eggs, bacon, and toast.

25. What's the age difference between you and your siblings?  There are 3 years between each of us, making my youngest sister 9 years younger.

We had a good Saturday!  Started our day at the Farmer's Market in our downtown, then we went to an antique warehouse about 20 miles away called The Barn.  Enjoyed that very much since it had been several years since I was there.  Then we stopped at Sam's Club for a couple of things and wheeled out a full basket of food.  Saw our neighbors there and talked with them for 15 minutes or so.  It was a fun day, and we got home in time for church.  Today....sleeping in and laundry.

Thanks for coming by today!  Peace, love & hugs.

Saturday:9

Hawaii Five-O

From our hostess, Sam: Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Hawaii Five-O (1969)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This is the theme from the TV show that originally ran from 1968 to 1980 and is on now again with a new cast. Were you/are you a fan?  No. I didn't watch it before and haven't seen it recently.

2) On both shows, Five-O is an elite police task force led by Det. Lt. Steve McGarrett. Who is your favorite TV cop?  Right now, I am really into NCIS New Orleans and LOVE Scott Backula.  Wow.

3) On both shows, the part of Danny "Danno" Williams was played by a second generation performer. (James MacArthur was the son of Broadway legend Helen Hayes; Scott Caan is the son of movie actor James Caan.) If you followed one of your parents into their chosen profession, what would you be doing?  I would be working for the Federal Government, which I have already done -  though not anymore.

4) Both shows are filmed in Hawaii, the boyhood home of President Obama. Have any of our 44 Presidents hailed from your state?  Here is a link.  It looks like 6 presidents were from Ohio.

5) Kona coffee is made from beans cultivated on the Big Island of Hawaii. Are you a big coffee drinker?   Oh my, yes!!  Usually three cups a day, average.

6) This week's song was written by the late Morton Stevens. In addition to composing for TV shows, he was the musical director for a group of entertainers known in the 60s as "The Rat Pack." Can you name any "Rat Pack" members?  Of course I can!!  Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop....

7) This week's featured band, The Ventures, began when Don Wilson purchased a used car from Bob Bogle. During negotiations, they discovered a shared passion for playing guitar. Did you buy your current ride new or used? Did the negotiations go smoothly?  We always buy new.  The negotiations for my Kia Sportage went very well.  It is now 9 years old, with 88,000 miles on it.  We try to keep them 10-12 years by taking very good care of them.

8) The year this song was popular, 1969, is when Donald and Doris Fisher opened a San Francisco clothing store called The Gap. Today there are more than 3,200 Gap locations. Do you shop at The Gap or gap.com?  I do not shop at The Gap.  I'm old and fat and 6 feet tall.....

9)  Random question: What's on your Saturday to-do list?  We are going to the Farmers' Market this morning, and will go to the Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:00.  Other than that, we will see what happens!

Thanks for coming by!!  Wishing you a good Saturday!
Peace & love.

Friday Five....

It has been a long week, and I am happy Friday is here!!  Let's see if I can find five things to write about.

  1. Tomorrow is my sister-in-law's birthday!  Joe's older brother is married to Joan and she is the birthday girl. They live in Maryland, and I'm sure the kids and grandkids will be helping her celebrate this weekend.  Love them all - a great family.
  2. Tomorrow is also an old friend's birthday.  Ruby delivered internal mail to offices when I worked for the American Red Cross, in Washington D.C.  That was 1982 to 1988.  When she retired, she wanted to stay in touch and asked for my address, so we started corresponding and have continued with Christmas, birthday and St. Patrick's Day cards (she is Irish too).  She even came down for a visit after we moved to Florida.  Now she is in assisted living, up in northern Maryland, where her family lives near. I am ashamed that I don't know how old she is, but for some reason a connection was made all those years ago, and she has been a bright shining star in my life and I look forward to hearing from her each holiday and birthday.
  3. If you watch Grey's Anatomy, were you as sad as I was with the ending last night?  I don't want to say too much in case someone taped it to watch later, but boohoo!
  4. Lakeland has an annual event called Sun'nFun.  It is the second largest fly-in in the USA.  Our town is full of airplane enthusiasts. It's a huge event that brings a good bit of money to Lakeland, just when the snowbirds and spring training fans go home.  Our restaurants and hotels are full.  Good for the economy, but it does keep locals home and out of the restaurants and shops.  Crazy crowded.  Planes fly over all day long, and it does get a little noisy.
  5. We have started watching a series called TURN from AMC (though we are catching up on Netflix).  We are still in season one but have found it to be quite interesting.  It's about spies during the Revolutionary War.  Have you seen it?
We have a weekend with no plans again, and are going to enjoy it.  May is coming fast and we will be busy most weekends going forward.  Wishing you a good weekend!  Peace, love & hugs.

It's an Earthy Hodgepodge Wednesday!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 218

Happy Hodgepodge Wednesday!  Joyce posts the questions on Tuesdays and the whole wide world answers on Wednesdays.  Join in the fun HERE!

Joyce has declared next week Spring Break in the Hodgepodge. What that means is no Hodgepodge on Wednesday, April 29th. The HP will be back to it's regularly scheduled programming the following week, Wednesday May 6th.  Thanks everyone!

1. Have you ever had to wear a uniform? If yes, tell us more. Did you love it or hate it?  I was in the band, in high school, and we had uniforms.  I LOVED marching band and putting that uniform on. Can you find me?  I played trumpet...fourth down from the top on the right-hand side, end of the row.

2. April 22nd is Earth Day. What is one thing you do personally to be a good steward of planet Earth?  We recycle everything our city lets us recycle, which is a lot!

3. Brown rice, quinoa, or couscous...your healthy grain of choice? How often are one of the three on your menu at home?  Given a choice between white rice, brown rice, wild rice, and fried rice which would you go for?  Brown rice lives in our cupboard and I make it occasionally.  Joe doesn't really like rice, so it's not on the menu often.  I don't really care for quinoa or couscous.  Given the choices, I would go for white rice first, then wild rice.  I love fried rice, but try to stay away from it because of the sodium.  Brown rice is better for you than white, so I use it in soups.

4. In your opinion, who has the best job ever?  I do!  I've been at the Museum 18 years.  I also love being Joe's wife - and yes, being a wife is a job.  Tell me it isn't!

5. What's a situation in your life currently requiring patience?  I struggle with patience every day.  I tend to fail on the impatient side of any situation, and turn into my dad behind a steering wheel.  He was the poster child for impatience!  I struggle.

6.  Do you live your life around days of the week? Explain.  Oh, how I love Fridays!!  I look forward to the weekends more and more, and retirement seems so far away when I think it is two more years.  That job I have loved for 18 years will not be missed.  I'm tired of getting up early and tired of worrying about the wonderful organization I work for.  Non-profits have a tough way to go these days.  Philanthropy is almost dead.

7. In a nod to the A to Z challenge happening around town this month, what 'R word' best describes your April?  Renewal.  Easter and spring flowers.....renewal and Resurrection!

8. Insert your own random thought here.  May is going to be a crazy busy month for us!  We have the Museum's Mayfaire art festival on Mothers' Day weekend, immediately followed by our trip to New Orleans, and a week later we will be going to Naples for Tristan's graduation. Whew!  June will be fairly quiet, I think, (except for a visit to my sister, in GA - maybe for her birthday), then we have our family reunion beach vacation in July.  Good golly!

Another good Hodgepodge and thanks to Joyce for this fun meme!!  (Have a good week off!)

Thanks for being here!  Peace & hugs.

Tuesday's Child Is Full Of Grace...

I was born on a Tuesday.  I know that this poem is cute, and you know I love being born on a day that proclaims that I am "full of grace".  Well, let me tell you.....I'm about as graceful as a bull in a china shop!!  LOL     I do, however, believe that I have been covered by God's Grace, for which I am so thankful.  Grace can also mean having a disposition to be generous, helpful, or full of goodwill.  I do try to be generous and helpful. I do my best to be "full of grace" and will try harder with this reminder!

What day were you born on, and how does the poem do at describing you?  If you don't know what day your birth date was on, you can find out HERE.

I also found MANY meanings behind this little poem, just as "grace" has many meanings.  Google it and see what you can find out about your day.  Let us know, please!!  HERE is a place you can start!

Thanks for stopping by and playing along!  Peace & hugs!

Memory Monday - My Siblings...

Today's Memory Monday is titled "My Siblings".  Retired Not Tired started this meme to record memories of families and friends.  Visit her blog and join in!

I have written about my brother and two sisters many times.  I love them dearly.  Some of these photos you have seen before if you follow my blog.  You also know that we lost our brother to colon cancer in 2003.  He was only 48 and left behind a devoted and loving wife, a daughter and son.

I am the oldest.  Randy was three years younger than me.  He was ornery, lots of fun, and always devoted to his sisters and parents.  He went hunting with dad from the time he was old enough to handle a rifle. He learned to fly single engine planes and was so proud to take dad up in a plane (dad had been a pilot, too). He also had a motorcycle. Randy graduated from Ohio University with a BA in Organizational Management.  He put himself through college with his own construction business.  He built metal silos and most of the farms in our hometown area had at least one silo that he built.  After graduation, he owned a very successful door company that is still in business today Kelly & Askew.  No need to say how much he is missed. He was a devoted family man, and was also a devoted Christian man who did the Emmaus Retreat, worked tirelessly for his church's youth and for Habitat for Humanity.

Patti was born three years after Randy.  Patti has firey red hair and had a firey temper to match (which she has grown out of, I have to say!).  Oh my, though.....we all have stories about her temper. I won't tell any, and hope that she will keep quiet about the stories she has about me!  LOL   Patti also graduated from Ohio University and has been an elementary school teacher for 35 years.  She is married to Greg and they have a lovely daughter, Kelly, who is in college now, studying art.  Kelly is at a community college right now, but will transfer to Ohio University to finish her degree in another year.

Tammy came next, three years after Patti.  Tammy has had an interesting and varied work life.  She did not go to college right after graduating from high school, but instead went to Washington DC and got a job at a government agency as a tour guide.  She has also been a car salesman, worked in the hotel/motel industry as a night desk clerk and also trained the cleaning staff.  After our dad died, and when mom was having health issues, she moved back home to be with Mom and went back to school.  She graduated from The Ohio State University with a teaching degree in high school English.  Tammy decided the classroom was not for her (after giving it a try), so taught on-line classes for several years.  She also worked with GED students and loved doing that.  Now she is happily married to Bruce and works for a large food company in merchandising.

So now you have met my siblings!!  There is so much more I could write about them all, and I am so proud of them.  I am also so blessed to have my sisters and to have had my brother in my life. Here are some photos in no particular order.....

 Patti, Terri, Randy

Yes, the bathtub photo!!  Randy, Terri and Patti.

I was the photographer at a motel on our way to Canada for vacation.
Neighbor and dear friend Mary, Randy, Dad, Mom, Tammy and Patti in front.

Terri, Randy, Mom, Patti, and Tammy. Not a great photo with all the shadows.

Saturday:9 Neon Lights

Neon Lights

Welcome to Saturday: 9.

Thanks to Helena at Quick Sticky Bits for flagging this.

Saturday 9: Neon Lights (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Think of a neon sign you pass by often. What does it say?  I pass the red neon sign in front of Krispy Kreme Donuts that indicates the donuts are HOT.  It is always on because they just heat them up in the local franchise. They are not baked there, and are just not as good as the really fresh ones.

2) In the video for this song, Demi Lovato spends a great deal of time in the water. When is the last time you swam?  October. We have a pool, and it got too cold after October.  It is just about warm enough to get in again, now.

3) The song encourages us to "look up at the sky." OK, we will. How does the sky look where you are today?  White fluffy clouds in a blue sky with lots of sunshine.  This IS Florida.

4) Demi is a contributing editor for Seventeen magazine. When she was in junior high school, Crazy Sam eagerly awaited each new issue of Seventeen. When you were younger, what magazine(s) did you read regularly?  I liked Seventeen, too, but was not really into magazines that much.  Whenever I could get my hands on a "True Story" magazine, I would read it cover to cover!!  Does anyone else remember "True Story"?

5) Demi is an investor in the company that makes Texas Tea, a bottled beverage available at Whole Foods. Do you have any tea in your kitchen right now?  Earl Gray, English Breakfast and Luzianne.

6) Demi is currently on tour, performing halfway around the world in Australia and New Zealand. Have you ever had a job that required travel?  No, and for that I am thankful. I don't like flying that much.

7) Demi had a recurring role on the show Glee. That show's series finale aired last month. Is there a show that's no longer on that you miss?  Lot's of them.  Glee is not one.  I miss Mash, Sonny & Cher, Ed Sullivan, Laugh-In, the original Saturday Night Live cast, and so many more...

8) Fast-growing fast food chain Chipotle reports that their top sellers include a burrito bowl with steak or chicken, salad with chili-corn salsa, and a soft taco. Which of these would you order?  We have a Chipotle in Lakeland and have gone there once. We weren't real impressed.  I think I had the burrito bowl with chicken. It was okay but didn't make me want to go back.

9) What beverage would you like to enjoy with your burrito bowl, taco or salad?  I usually just get water with no lemon, but I also enjoy sweet tea now and then.

Thanks for reading my Saturday:9!!  I am thrilled to put this past week away and have a quieter weekend.  I think we will go to the Farmer's Market shortly.  Have a good Saturday!! Peace, love & hugs!

Friday's Fragmented Five?

I'm not sure about that "extra, extra" because there is nothing exciting to share today.  I usually get my post done the night before and schedule it to post at 6:00 a.m., but not last night.  Crazy week, and it is finally almost over!

Today I have financial pages for a grant to work on, and the department heads are feeding me budget numbers for our fiscal 2016, so those have to be put into the computer.  We have to present the first-round budget to the board committee next week, so the pressure is on everyone - not just me.

Joe is always happy to see tax season end, but it really doesn't end for accountants.  He has 18 people on extension.  He used to do well over 100 tax returns each year, but has gotten it down to around 40  since he "retired".  Of course, ours was the last one he did and (as always when you are self-employed) we had to pay.  We used to always go out to a nice restaurant to celebrate the end of tax season (and loonnngggg nights at the office).  This year he didn't want to go out.  He was just happy to be done with the rush.

We have no plans for this weekend.  Grocery shopping (tonight) and laundry are all we have to do. Of course, we will go to church on Saturday evening and maybe out to eat afterwards. You know I love not setting the alarm!

Our remaining three cats have settled down into a new 'order' now that Onyx is gone.  Things are getting back to normal again.  The only thing that isn't back to normal is their eating habits.  We catered to Onyx, since he had lost so much weight.  Now we are seeing that what we fed him is not necessarily what these three want to eat now - or their finicky nature has kicked in again.  I'm going to buy a few different brands at the store tonight, and hopefully one of them will make them want to gobble it up.  We have dry food down all the time for them, so they aren't starving.  I give them canned food in the mornings, though, and that is what I've been throwing away in the evening.  Cats!!

Lunch was fun yesterday, with my girlfriends Cindee and Shirley.  Cindee has a very sick and very old dog, Georgie, who needs to be let go.  She is so emotional about him (well, aren't we all when a fur-baby is sick) and her husband is so busy at work that she feels a little abandoned.  I told her that I would help her however she wants me to.  I can take him to the vet for her, or be with her when she has to do it.  They are going on a business trip next week, and she doesn't want to leave him like this, so it is something that has to happen soon.  She knows it isn't fair to him.  Shirley also has an old dog who now can't use his back legs.  They have spent thousands on him recently (acupuncture and massage!) and they now have to lift him so he can do his 'business' and they have to make sure he gets water and food.  It's really sad when our beloved fur babies get old and infirm.  So...lunch was fun, but we had some pretty emotional conversations.

Well, that's more than five, but certainly fragmented!!  I wish you a good weekend and thank you for stopping by today!  Peace & hugs!

Throwback Thursday Fun....

I actually dug out a few photos that I have never scanned before, so these aren't replays for a change!!

Joe and I loved going to Harper's Ferry.  It only took about an hour to get there.
This was Fall 1983, I think, when we were dating....young and thin. Oh my gosh!

Millersport High School Marching Band.  This was a yearbook photo.
Can you see me?  Enlarge the photo and I am standing next to "This is me."
I played the trumpet.

Our senior class trip was to Washington DC and New York City.
I am sitting on the steps of the Capitol, right under the T in This is me.
We had lots of fun on that trip!!

That's my TBT!  I appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts sent my way yesterday!  I did get two big projects done (or almost done), so the rest of the week won't be quite as crazy.  I am actually taking a longer lunch time today, to have lunch with girlfriends Cindee and Shirley.  Always fun!

Thanks for stopping by!  Wishing you a good Thursday!!  It's Friday eve!  Peace & hugs.

A Taxing Hodgepodge for April 15th....

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 217
Another fun Hodgepodge from blogging friend, Joyce, at From This Side of the Pond.  Join the fun by clicking HERE and link up!!

1. Speaking of April 15th...what's the most 'taxing' thing you've done recently?

Work has been extremely taxing these past few days.  Budget time, Quarterly Reports time, and March financials due.....

2. When did you last take a taxi somewhere and where was that somewhere?

The last taxi we took was in Italy, in 2007, and it was to go back to our hotel after a long day in Vatican City.

3. What's something you can do today that you couldn't do a year ago?

I had to ask Joe because I couldn't' think of anything.  He laughed and said I can bake Easter Bread.  (Last year's did not turn out very good, but this year's did.)

4. How often is chicken (in some form or fashion) on your menu at home? Which of the following would you most like to see on your table tonight...a chicken salad sandwich, your mom's fried chicken, a Chick-fil-A meal, Cracker Barrel's chicken n' dumplings, a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings, or 'hold the chicken, I'm a vegetarian'...?

I make chicken something a couple of times a month.  Joe likes Italian chicken cutlets, so that is usually how I prepare it.  I love getting a rotisserie chicken from Sam's or Publix, though.  What I really miss is my Granny Kelly's fried chicken.  Oh my goodness.....  (We eat more beef and pork than chicken.)

5. What was your favorite television program when you were a kid? What characters do you remember the most?

I remember loving the Mickey Mouse Club, with Annette Funicello.  I also liked watching Truth or Consequences, Lawrence Welk (with the Lennon Sisters),  and Art Linkletter (kids say the darndest things).  I'm old!!  LOL  Check out the links to YouTube videos if you have time!!

6. What was the last piece of 'art' you made?

It's been about a year since I made a serious piece of art, but I also fiddle with jewelry now and then, and I doodle at meetings!

7. What frustrates you most about the Internet?

The internet doesn't frustrate me as much as a slow computer, or any computer glitch.  Hackers and people out to do bad things and commit crimes are beyond frustrating, but that's people, not the internet.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I haven't mentioned Bruce in awhile.  I spoke with my sister, Tammy, over the weekend.  She said things are good and Bruce is making progress at home, but slowly.  She gets him out to the grocery and they went out to find plants for the garden.  Bruce helped her get seedlings planted by drilling holes in the pots.  He keeps his sense of humor and understands what has happened to him and that he is not always understood.  He gets around well with his walker and works well with the therapist and homecare nurse.  His sister is coming (from somewhere out west) this weekend.  Joe and I are planning a trip up toward the end of May.

Thanks for checking in on my Wednesday Hodgepodge!  I appreciate your time and your comments!  Peace & love!!

Tuesday.....

Hello and happy Tuesday!  This week, at work, is crazy.  I'm slammed with so many projects that I don't know which end is up.  This too will pass, but only having three hours sleep on Sunday night (a usual occurrence) and then getting some kind of sinus thing last night that also found me with about three hours of sleep when the alarm went off.... it's going to be a rough couple of days.  If you will whisper a prayer for me, I would appreciate it!!   I'll catch up with you all as I can!  Peace & love!

Memory Monday is back!!

Retired Not Tired is back with her Memory Monday Meme!!  Today's topic is "My Parents".

I have written about my parents many times but will post a few photos and rehash some of it all in one blog.  I'll start by saying that I am so aware of the blessing I had in these parents. We were so blessed to have parents who supported us in every way and loved us unconditionally.

My dad, Orlyn Albert Kelly, at around age 18.

My mom, Helen Louise Cameron, at about age 18.

My folks met through my Uncle Bill (Dad's brother), who worked with my mom.  Mom always talked about wanting to go up in an airplane, and my dad was a pilot so my uncle set them up on a date for a plane ride.  They fell for each other quickly and were married five months later, in October 1949.

Dad went to work for the Air Force as a civilian.  He started his career in Dayton, Ohio, at Wright Patterson AFB.  Mom worked here and there, but was a full-time stay at home mom after I was born in December 1951.  My brother followed in March 1955, then my sister Patti in June 1958, and last but not least (she says they quit when they got perfection), my sister Tammy was born in June 1961.

Mom did have a miscarriage before I came along, and she never forgot the baby she lost. I'm sure they have been reunited in heaven.

When I was 10, Dad was transferred to Newark (Ohio) Air Force Base, so we moved from Washington Court House, Ohio, to Millersport, Ohio.  Tammy was just barely walking when we made that move, so Millersport is really the only home she remembers.  Once we were all in school, Mom started working for the Post Office and later become a substitute Postmaster and she worked at several post offices when the Postmaster was on leave or they were looking for a new Postmaster.

She and Dad both retired and bought a winter home in Florida, while also moving from the big house we all grew up in, to a smaller mobile home in a community in Ohio where other friends had retired. It was great for them and they both enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida.  Dad always had a boat. Always. He loved being out on the water and fishing.  He was also a hunter; he was a Mason; he could build anything, and he could fix small motors.

Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, and the horrid cancer went to his brain.  He fought a good battle but could not win that one.  We lost him in December 1989. He was only 63 (my age now!).  It was just two months after he and Mom celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.  We had a wonderful party for them, and they had this "official" picture taken.  The ravages of the disease can be seen in both, but dad kept his sense of humor through all the bad times.  Mom was tired and worried and sad.  We all knew there wasn't much time left.

Mom handled being a widow with strength pulled from her faith.  My mom was an angel and anyone who knew her will say that about her (including my Joe!).  She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and goodness flowed from her heart all the time.  She and some girlfriends traveled together. They went out west for a few weeks, taking turns with the driving and seeing Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills, and enjoyed some shows in Branson, MO, back when it was just getting started as a destination.  A year or so later, they flew to Hawaii and had such a good time.  Mom sold the mobile home here in Florida, and she spent a few months each winter with us. We loved having her with us.

My mom was a great cook, she could sew anything, and she could make crafts out of things most of us would just throw away! She was creative, patient, and generous. She loved to sing, and sang alto in the church choir for years and years.  She was an Avon lady; she was active in PTO while we were all in school; she was in a Mothers' Club; she was in a Euchre club and also played Canasta now and then with her old high school friends.

Mom was diagnosed with colon cancer and also fought a good battle.  It eventually spread throughout her body and she had to go to hospice care.  We lost her in December 1995.  She was only 65.

I miss them so much.  They should still be here with us. I should be taking care of them in their old age.  We should still be having fun and sharing memories. But, it was not to be and we have to trust that there is a reason things happen as they do.

Next week's topic is "My Siblings".  It will be fun pulling that one together!  Thanks for stopping by! I wish you a good week ahead!  Peace & love.

A Sizzling Sunday Stealing!

Sizzle Says...

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser.

The Sizzle Says Meme
Stolen from: Ms. Sizzle

1. If money were no object, what would you be doing with your life? Traveling and helping others.

2. Money is just that - an object, so why aren’t you doing it? I do help when and how I can. Traveling takes a lot of that jingle.

3. What’s better: horses or cows?  That would depend on a lot of things. Horses are better to ride, but cows provide nutrition. How can I choose?!!  LOL

4. What do you think the secret to happiness is?  It's something different for everyone, but it begins with love and trust, I think.

5. When was the last time you had a dream that you either remember well or did not want to awake from? Can you share a bit?   I know that I dream, but I never remember them.

6. When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  I wanted to own a ranch in Colorado with horses and cows (horses to ride and cows for milk and meat!).

7. Complete this statement: Love is…  necessary.

8. Can you tell a good story?   No, but I dearly love a good storyteller and keep telling myself I am going to become one someday.

9. Can you remember your last daydream? What was it about?  Yes. Winning the lotto.

10. If you were to thank someone today, who would you thank?  Just one someone?  I thank God daily for all that He has given me, but really should thank Joe more often for loving me.

11. If you could be anyone's mojo, whose would you want to be, and why? (For those you do not know what mojo is, it's personal magnetism; charm.)  I haven't an idea how to answer this one.

Thanks to KWIZGIVER for another fun Sunday meme!  I thank all of you for stopping by!  Wishing you a blessed Sunday!
