Week One: December 3 – 9 Advent Theme: Creation The creation testifies to God’s power to take chaos and darkness and to make it whole and beautiful. And so, when the Israelites cried out as slaves in Egypt, God heard their groans and acted in his creative power to rescue and to restore them. On this first Sunday of Advent, we light a candle to reflect on the greatness of God in his creation. The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus Christ, God’s son, “upholds the universe by the word of his power.” In his coming, this powerful Son came as a little baby, born to rescue humanity and to restore all of creation – healing the broken, finding the lost and turning the darkness into light.
