Medley Questions for Wednesday and a Quick Weekend Recap....

Another holiday on Tuesday so I will post the questions
for Wednesday's Medley today.

Here is a medley of questions you may choose to answer on your Wednesday blog.  There aren't any rules and there is no obligation. Link up if you want to.   I'm doing this to fill my Wednesday (since we lost the Hodgepodge - and my hat goes off to Joyce Daley for 10-years of the Hodgepodge; this is not easy!)  and if you are interested, then join in!!  It might be fun!!

Today is  NATIONAL SCIENCE FICTION DAY

National Science Fiction Day is celebrated annually on January 2nd by millions of science fiction fans across the United States.  The date of January 2 was chosen for National Science Fiction Day as it corresponds with the birth date of famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.   National Science Fiction Day is recognized by the Hallmark Channel and the Scholastic Corporation.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Watch some classic science fiction t.v. shows or movies.  Start reading a science fiction novel. Use #ScienceFictionDay to post on social media.

1.  Will you observe National Science Fiction Day as recommended above?  Do you even like science fiction?
2.  Have you chosen a "word" for 2019?  Many people do. THIS QUIZ might help you find your word!!
3.  Did you stay up to see the new year in?  Are you happy or sad to see 2018 go?
4.  I really enjoy the Tournament of Roses parade on New Year's Day but rarely get to sit and enjoy the entire parade because I am cooking.  Did you watch the parade?  Did you cook/eat the traditional foods (pork, black-eyed peas, kraut, greens...) to begin the new year?
5.  I have to ask... Resolutions.  Did you make any or set some new goals for 2019?  Or do you even think about it?
6.  Tell us something random about your week

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A short weekend recap on Monday, because there isn't much to report!  We didn't go to the farm (Joe's client) but I did have to work the day after Christmas, Thursday, and Saturday.  Friday was laundry day.  We went to lunch with Al & Theresa on Friday, at our new Jersey Mike's. Had fun meeting them there and enjoyed our subs!  Saturday, I was really tired when I got home from work, so did as little as possible. On Sunday, we decided to visit one of the other three Presbyterian PCA churches to make sure we really want to stay at Covenant. Well, Joe can't stand "rock music" in church.  We walked into Redeemer Presbyterian and there were drums and guitars on the 'stage'.  He wanted to leave before we sat down.  We had time to get to Trinity Presbyterian and the same thing happened. He just does not want to listen to loud praise music in church.  Traditional hymns with a piano or organ, or nothing at all. Just for the record, I don't mind a little praise music, but I don't like it loud and more like a concert than church either.  So, we didn't get to church yesterday... or we were at two, but didn't worship.  After six weeks at Covenant, we are both feeling a little uncomfortable about a few things and finally talked about it, thus the visits at the other churches. We'll see how it goes from here...
I have work this morning, but the last patient is at 10:30 and the doc mentioned that we could probably close early.  Of course, I don't get paid but that's okay.  I need to finish cleaning after getting the decorations put away. How does the house get so dirty? LOL  We will be at the Clubhouse for the New Year's Eve celebration tonight!  Sharing a table with Al and Theresa.  We have lots of snacks to share and a couple of bottles of wine.  There will be a DJ and it should be lots of fun!!
I wish each of you a blessed new year!! Be safe if you are out and about!
Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

 1. Are flowers a nice gift to give someone?  I'm sure many people appreciate them.  I can't have them in my house, however.  I am usually sad when someone gives me flowers because I can't put them where they can be seen and appreciated.  My cats destroy them.

Saturday 9....

Winter Wonderland

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Winter Wonderland (1968)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

From our Hostess:  Welcome to the last Saturday 9 of 2018! Thanks for a great year, everyone.

1) This is an unconventional take on an old familiar song. Over the holidays, do you prefer traditional carols? Or do you like to mix it up with more contemporary fare?  I prefer the traditional carols but it's okay to throw in a newer song now and then.  I don't understand why "My Favorite Things" became a Christmas song, and that also goes for "Baby, It's Cold Outside".  Is it just because they talk about cold and snow?

2) Now that Christmas is behind us, are you enjoying a relaxing week? Or do you have socializing/celebrating/chores to do?  Not really relaxing because I have to work and have laundry to do and decorations to put away and cleaning to do after that.... maybe next week I can relax a bit! LOL

3) Winter is a time for cocooning. What book or movie did you enjoy in 2018 that you would recommend to your fellow Saturday 9-ers?  I always recommend the Outlander series to anyone wanting a good stack of books to read, but I read them several years ago. I'm excited that my sister, Patti, just got the first four for Christmas!! We can talk about them now!

4)  Looking back on the past year, what was one of your happiest moments?  My entire year was happy after I got over the longest cold ever.  It took me three months and two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it (Jan-Mar).

5)  What was the smartest thing you did all this past year?  Getting my little part-time job was the smartest thing I did.  Hoping I will be able to let it go come summer.

6)  As 2018 comes to a close, what are you most grateful for?  I am always grateful for Christ in my life, who makes everything possible.  Follow Him by my dear family and friends.  I am so blessed!

7) This week's featured artist is Herb Alpert. Because of the style he popularized and the name of his band, people assume he's Hispanic. Yet his parents were Jewish immigrants from Romania. What's something we'd be surprised to learn about you?  Well, first off, I LOVE Herb Alpert.  He was my trumpet-playing hero when I was in my teens.  I've mentioned it before so you won't be surprised that I played trumpet in the band when I was in high school.  I loved the band and loved my instrument.

8) He performed an instrumental version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXII. How did your favorite sports teams do in 2018?  I am a Philly fan because my husband loves all the Philly sports teams.  They did GREAT in 2017, and of course the Eagles won the Super Bowl.  Sadly, they are all just doing so-so this year.  Building again... Villanova, Flyers, Eagles, Phillies...

9) Random question: When did you last check your social media feed?  If that means Facebook and Blogger, I check them several times a day, every day!!

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!
You can find them HERE and join in!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Friday Foto Friends...

Thank you, Debbie, for hosting Friday Foto Friends!  If you want to join in and share some photos with everyone, visit Deb at Breathing In Grace and link-up!!

I shared this yesterday, for Thankful Thursday, but
wanted to post it again today.  These are our friends,
who are like family and brought love and fun to our Christmas dinner!
L-R: Paul, Anne, Helen, Joe, Theresa, Al, and Cheryl

I have not shared a picture of the tree I put in our guest bathroom! LOL
My sister, Patti, gave this to me years ago and I always had it on my
desk at work during Christmas.  It is a cat holding up a tree made of fish-shaped
leaves and a mouse tree-topper!  I LOVE it!!

Someone mentioned that they always put Christmas books out
and I do too.  These are always on the coffee table during
the Christmas holiday time.  A few of my favorites!!
I LOVE Nedobeck's artwork and items.  He was our
Mayfaire t-shirt and poster artist at the Museum one year.
I have several autographed pieces from him.
HERE is a link.  He does dogs and cats - of course, I love the cats!!

That is all I have to share with you today.  Joe and I ran a few errands after I got home from work yesterday.  Today we are meeting Al & Theresa for lunch at Jersey Mike's newest location, which is five minutes from us.  Not a good thing for any of us!  Joe and Al LOVE Jersey Mike's subs!  I also want to get some of Christmas put away, do the laundry and get some cleaning done.  I have to work tomorrow so will get as much done as I can today.  My schedule at work will be a little more stable starting in January with the holidays behind us.

Thanks for checking in!!  Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Thankful Thursday Link-up...

Still glowing from our blessed Christmas day with friends who are like family, I can't believe we are at Thursday already.  Is anyone else messed up on what day it is?  Thursday means it is time to link up with Rebecca Jo on her blog, Knit By God's Hand for Thankful Thursday.  Thank you for hosting Rebecca Jo!  Thankful for you!!  All of you can join in HERE!!

I am thankful for this community in which we reside!
Mas Verde has been such a blessing for us!
There were 150 people at the Christmas Pot Luck
on Saturday, the 22nd.  We had a great time!
This is just a random shot taken from our table.

I am thankful for our friends, who are like family and who
share many of our holidays with us!
Left to Right:  Paul, Anne, Helen, Joe, Theresa, Al, and Cheryl.

We served the food buffet style.  The au gratin potatoes
were in a crock pot on a different counter.

The table before guests arrived.

My cake with Mom's icing.

Cookies and cheese and all kinds of goodies to pick at.

And I am thankful for our sweet pets who all behaved
during dinner and company!
This is Lucy.

This is Lilly.

This is Vinny.

AND, I am thankful for all of you!!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

The Wednesday Medley...

Today is National Candy Cane Day!! How appropriate is that?!

NATIONAL CANDY CANE DAY

National Candy Cane Day is observed across the United States each year on December 26.
In 1844, a recipe for a straight peppermint candy stick, which was white with colored stripes, was published. However, some stories tell of all white candy sticks in much earlier times.  There are folklore tales of the origin of the candy cane, yet there is no documented proof of its real beginning. It has been mentioned in literature since 1866 and was first known to be mentioned in association with Christmas in 1874.   As early as 1882, candy canes have been hung on Christmas trees.
1.  Are there candy canes left in your house right now?  Yes, a few.  Did you hang some on your tree?  No.  Do you even like them?  Not especially. I bought them to make minty fudge.
2.  Without a graphic, today is also National Thank You Note Day!  I like receiving that thank you note in the mail for a gift I have given.  Are you good about getting thank you notes in the mail after Christmas (or any occasion calling for a note)?  I do try to get thank-you notes written in a timely manner for gifts received.
3.  How are you feeling on this day after Christmas?  Tired, let down, still glowing?  I have felt all of those at one time or another and sometimes all of them at once! Tell us about it.  Glowing.  Having friends who are like family around our table is the next best thing to having family around our table. I love cooking holiday dinners!!  But since I am back to work today, you know I am tired!!
4  It is "tradition" to leave the tree and decorations up until after January 6th, to honor the Epiphany. When will your boxes be packed and put away until next year?  I will most likely get them down the week after New Years Day.  Are you, like me, thinking about doing it right now?  Yes, I could do it right now, but I'll wait. They will be put away before Epiphany. though.
5. Looking ahead to New Year's Eve, do you have plans? Yes, we do!  Our Clubhouse has a New Year's Eve party with a DJ.  It was lots of fun last year so we are looking forward to it this year.  Have you ever celebrated big in New York's Time Square?  No!  Would you even want to be there?  Absolutely not... not even 40 years ago. I have never like being in crowds like that.
6. Tell us something random about your week so far!  Not so random because it IS Christmas week, right?!  I'm just so blessed by the people in my life and especially my dear husband, Joe. Dinner was good.  Our guests were fun and appreciative.  Phone calls and texts with loved ones not with us this year...

Thanks for your visit today!  If you are answering on your blog, please post your link below so we can all visit each other!!  Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Sunday Stealing Questions...

End of Year Questions

This isn't stolen from anywhere in particular, but it is a questionnaire I have tried to answer each year... maybe it originated with Sunday Stealing; I don't know.  But maybe you'd like to look back in 2018 as well.

What did you do last year that you had not done before?  Gee, can't think of a thing.

Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions/goals for the year and will you make/set more for next year?  What are they? What are your new ones?  I don't make resolutions so none of these questions applies.

Did anyone you know give birth?  Yes.  Or become pregnant?  Yes. Or adopt?  No.

Did anyone you know die? Yes. Or have a serious illness/injury?  Yes to both, unfortunately.

What places have you visited? We didn't travel much at all in 2018.  Went to the beach once.

Any new pets? Lost a pet?  No new pets and none lost.

What would you like to have next year that you lacked this year (doesn't have to be a physical thing i.e. love, job security, peace of mind...)?   The stamina to travel some and walk more than 3 blocks... both of us.

What date from last year will remain etched in your memory and why?  Our step-grandson committed suicide. Enough said.

What was your biggest achievement last year?  Getting a part-time job, I guess.

Did you get sick or injured?  I had a HORRID cold that lasted nearly three months, January -March.

What was the best thing you bought?  We didn't buy much.  Groceries! LOL

Where did most of your disposable income go (money left over after you pay for food, medical care, basic clothing, transportation, and shelter)?   No disposable income which is why I am back to work.

What song will always remind you of last year?  Doesn't have to be a song released last year.  I've said before that music isn't that big in my life. I have no idea how to answer this one.

What do you wish you would have done more of?  Beach time.

What do you wish you would have done less of?  We should watch less TV.

What was your favorite new TV program? Movie? Album/Songs? Or if you didn't pick up any new ones, what are you still watching/listening to? Any recommendations?  We watch several series on AcornTV, Britbox, Netflix, and Amazon.  I think we went to the movies once or twice but don't remember what we saw.

What was the best book you read this year?  How many did you read?  I haven't read any really good books this year. Lots of not-so-good ones that aren't worth mentioning and I don't keep track.  I get freebies for my Kindle.  Some are good and some I dump after the first chapter.

What did you do on your birthday and how old were you? Did you feel differently?  We did nothing different for my birthday this year. I turned 67 on December 11th.  I don't feel different from last year.

What political or social issue stirred you the most? Let's just don't go there!

Who was the most interesting new person you met?  One of our friends here in Mas Verde is a retired mortician.  He has some stories.

What changed at your job?  I went from being retired to working part-time.

What changed in your home?  No changes at home.

Describe how a relationship changed.  No relationship changes either.

Do you think you are still the same person that you were at the beginning of the year?  How so?  Yep.  The only change was in our church but that hasn't changed the person I am or always have been.

Summarize the year in three words or less. Bonus points for doing it in one word. Explain. Good.  We are happy.  Life is good!

How have people around you changed? None that I have noticed!

What have you learned throughout the year? (Other than crafts)   I'm learning a new job. Does that count?

What was your favorite outfit for warm weather? Cooler weather?  I live in Florida. Flip flops and capris in warm weather and canvas shoes with slacks in cooler weather.

Did you learn any new crafts or techniques? What was your favorite thing you made?  Nope. Nothing new and nothing made.

What changed about your physical appearance? (Hair? Wrinkles? New makeup style? Etc)  Yawn... all the same. No changes.

What are your hopes and dreams for the new year?  (Some suggestions-family, travel, work, lifestyle, hobbies, pets, appearance)  To get Joe's heart fixed and then perhaps one of my knees replaced.

Thanks to Bev Sykes for this week's questions.  You can find Sunday Stealing HERE to join in.

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs! God bless!!

Christmas Memories Saturday 9...

Happy Holidays!

Saturday 9: Happy Holidays! (from the archives)

1. As you can see, Sam loved giving her annual wish list to Santa. Yet some children are reluctant to climb into Jolly Old St. Nick's lap. Did you enjoy the tradition or were you shy? Or did you bypass it all together -- either because you wrote him a letter or because your family didn't celebrate Christmas?  I have no recollection of sitting on Santa's lap or of writing a letter to Santa, but I do remember my little sisters doing it.

2. Are you currently on the Naughty or Nice list? How did you get there?  I am always on the nice list.  It's just how I roll.  LOL

3. Did you ship any gifts to friends and family this year? If so, which one traveled the farthest?  No gifts... just money this year.

4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year?  Nope.

5. What's your favorite holiday-themed movie? Have you seen it yet this year?  There are several I love and we have watched all of them but one so far.  The Holiday is a favorite.  I have yet to see While You Were Sleeping.

6. Thinking of movies, Christmas is lucrative for Hollywood. Have you ever gone to a movie theater on Christmas Day?  We have indeed gone to the movies on Christmas Day. We didn't last year and I doubt we will go this year, but it is always fun when we do.

7. Have you ever suffered an embarrassing moment at the company Christmas party?  No. The Museum's Christmas parties were always family oriented and fun.

8. What's your favorite beverage in cold weather?  Hot tea.

9. Share a memory from last Christmas.  We were blessed to have my sister and brother-in-law here with us.  They can't come this year because of some health issues.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us next week for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your holidays!
Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!  You can join in HERE.

Thanks for your visit today!
 Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!
