September's Last Hodgepodge?!!!

Wasn't it just last week that we did September's FIRST Hodgepodge?  Good grief this month has just flown by!!

Joyce gives us some great questions to answer, then you hop back to her site to link-up and share with other Hodgepodgers!  Join in the fun!!  Thank you, Joyce!!

Somehow we're into the last Hodgepodge of September. Hmmm...not sure how we got here so quickly, but you can't stop time so onward it is. Answer the questions on your own blog, then jump back here tomorrow and add your link to the party.  See you there!

1. Something on your October calendar that makes you smile?  There are a few things, actually!  Joey and Darlene are coming for a visit over the Columbus Day holiday; we have a birthday dinner scheduled with some friends; our grandchildren both have birthdays; and I get my eye exam followed by my NEW glasses.  I'm so excited to get new glasses!

2. Food for the soul or music for the soul...which camp are you in?  Food, definitely.  Tell us why?  Well, I do love music but eating out at a restaurant we really like can boost my spirits faster than any song someone might play. I come from a long, long, long line of foodies and married into a family just like mine.  Mangiare!

3. What are two or three things you've learned recently as the result of an online search?  I was very disappointed to learn that the "free" cruise we got with our New Orleans trip (through Bluegreen Vacations - yes, we listened to a time-share sales pitch thinking we were really getting a free cruise) is not free at all.  As a matter of fact, I found a better price on Expedia.com than my "free" certificate was getting us.  All a bunch of hot air. Bummed. Threw it in the trash.  No cruise for us this spring.

4. Share your favorite game day recipe. You can describe it, post the how-to, or add a link to the actual recipe. Well, years ago, when the boys were still living at home, I liked to make tacos.  We had a wonderful family room that had a wet-bar and space to set-up a taco buffet for football Sundays.  Loved doing that.  Now, Joe isn't crazy about tacos.  We don't really have a game-day recipe or routine anymore.  Nothing special.

5. What are your five essential steps for creating the perfect morning routine?  Getting out of bed when the alarm goes off helps (snicker), so I don't have to hurry.  I always put my clothes out the night before, including undies and accessories.  I do that because I don't turn bright lights on in the morning.  Taking my thyroid pill on an empty stomach is always critical to getting me going.  A shower, definitely, and I wash my curly hair every day. I clean the cats' bowls and feed them before packing my breakfast and lunch. Because my thyroid pill needs time to dissolve and get into my system, I eat breakfast at work (I go in an hour before my official start time of 8:00). I scan through the newspaper, including the comics.  Morning prayers follow unless I am running a little late. I pray in the car, on my way to the office, when that happens.  I guess that is more than five things, but I do have my routine down to a science and hate having it interrupted on work days.  Joe never gets up until I am out the door, bless him (and that is why I don't turn the bright lights on)!

6. What small thing have you taken note of today?  I called Joe (we rarely talk during the day) to see how he is feeling today.  Wonder of wonders, he is feeling a little better and so am I!!!  Hoping we are about done with these colds!!  Maybe that's not so small, but I was sure happy to hear he feels better!

7. Sum up your September in seven words or less.  Hospital.Heart.Sinus.Virus.Tissues.Medicine.Thankful.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  I have had this business card holder for years and years.  It was a gift from my brother and sister-in-law one year when they were here visiting.  I look at it every day and think of my brother (who died of cancer 11 years ago).  It makes me smile.

That's it for today!  I appreciate your visit!!  Peace & hugs!

Tuesday Tidbits....

I made it through the day yesterday but was sure beat when I got home.  It crazy how a cold can drive you down. Time to kick this cold's butt!!

My friend, Shirley, sent an interesting email to me with pictures of things you don't normally see.  I chose a few of them to share with you.

This is the end of China's Great Wall.  Had you ever wondered where it started or ended? I never gave it a thought, but this was interesting to me.

This is an extremely close-up photo of the human tongue.  If you think that is gross, you ain't seen nothin' yet.....

There is nothing more gross than cancer cells.

We always hear that muscle weighs more than fat but take a look at this.

We always see photos of Mars.  This is the closest photo we have of Mercury.

And last...Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1957.  Aren't the cars wonderful?

That's it for today.  My Tuesday Tidbits.  Hope you enjoyed them.  Peace & hugs!!

PS:  My blogging friend, Linda Eller, had to re-do her blog and she has lost many of her connections.  If you follow Me and Mine, Linda Eller, her new blog is:  http://junkismine.blogspot.com/

Monday Mishmash....

This will be a short post.  We went absolutely nowhere over the weekend.  We slept, we ate a little, we coughed a lot, blew our noses a bunch, and felt miserable.

I did get the laundry done. That's it.

Back to work today. It will be a very long day. I know this too will pass!!

Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

A Really Random Sunday Stealing.....

Really Random Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from. We also provide a link to the victim's meme in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from this new meme or recently asked questions from a previously featured meme.
Cheers to all of us thieves!!!

Saturday:9 Take a Letter, Maria....

Thanks again to Samantha for another Saturday:9.  There aren't any rules!  Copy the questions, answer them on your blog, link up or don't, and join in the fun!

Take a Letter, Maria

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Take a Letter, Maria (1969)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, R. B. Greaves gets a shock when he gets home from work. When is the last time you were surprised? Was it a happy or sad surprise?  Probably a few weeks ago when Joe told me he flunked his stress test and needed another heart cath to check for a blockage.  Sad.

2)  Mr. Greaves sings that he didn't get home until "about a half past ten." That's a very long workday. No wonder his wife felt neglected! Have you ever had trouble maintaining balance between homelife and career?  Yes, when I owned my little bakery, The Wedding Cake.  I lived and breathed sugar and flour. It was exhausting.  Some nights I was there washing dishes at 3:00 a.m.  God bless Joe. He was there with me helping, even though he had his own accounting practice to run. Needless to say, 4 years was enough. I had to move on.

3) According to the song, "Maria" is a secretary. Have you ever worked in an office?  Except for my four years with the bakery, I always worked in an office, but I've never been a secretary. Numbers have been my 'game'.

4)  In today's office, R.B. Greaves wouldn't ask Maria to "take a letter." Instead, he'd keystroke his own email to his wife and cc his lawyer before hitting, "send." Think of another phrase, like "take a letter," that we seldom hear anymore because of technology. Bring your phonograph to the party, please! Everyone is bringing an album to play!

5) "Maria" is mentioned in many songs ("Maria" from West Side Story, "Maria, Shut Up and Kiss Me" by Willie Nelson, "How Do Solve a Problem like Maria?" ...) but Crazy Sam discovered  few, if any, "Samantha" songs. Does your first name figure prominently in any lyrics?  Well, I had to look it up, and I searched for both Terri and Teresa.  There are a couple for each, but they are obscure and I had never heard of them, so won't even bother listing them here. How sad!

6) 1969 was the year that Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon. Do you believe in life on other planets?  I think life will be found elsewhere some day. The universe is so vast.....

7) In 1969, the Beatles performed publicly for the last time as a band, on the roof of Abbey Road studios. When did you last climb up onto your roof?  I've never been on the roof of our house, but I have been, a few times, on the roof of the museum where I work.  It is nice and flat!!

8) Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries sold at a brisk pace at Christmastime in 1969. Were you a fan of these books? If not, tell us about a book you remember enjoying when you were young.  I LOVED Nancy Drew.  I thought I was Nancy Drew.  I even read a few Hardy Boys books.  Before Nancy, I devoured any Trixie Beldon book.  Good stuff.

9) Random question: Do you consider yourself old fashioned?  In many ways, yes.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for your visit today!  Looking forward to a quiet weekend. Joe is recovering well and I need to kick this cold out the door!  Peace & hugs!

Prayer & Praise Friday!

I'll start with a praise report today!  Joe's heart cath went very well.  He had to have a stent inserted to fix an 80% blockage, but it worked and all is well.  I got him home yesterday morning. Praise God, and thanks to everyone who offered prayers for him. Thank you!

I had good news from my sister, Tammy.  Bruce had a follow-up appointment with the doctor in Jacksonville, FL.  The doctor is sure there isn't a tumor.  He needs an MRI next month to be 100% sure, but he told them he is just positive there isn't a tumor.  Another praise-worthy shout out about the power of prayer!

Our daughter-in-law, Darlene, came through some out-patient surgery yesterday successfully.  Praise God again!

Prayer requests from previous weeks remain on the prayer line here.  I know there is a blogging friend who has need of prayer for her husband. Our Lord and Savior knows who and what...we just need to pray.

My dear friend (and Blogger) Karen will have her cancer surgery next week.  Please keep her in your prayers, as well as strength for her family and that her surgical team will be successful!

Your prayer requests are welcome and know that the prayers continue daily for all the needs mentioned here, and for those needs that remain in the silence of our hearts.

Praise reports are always celebrated!

I am happy Friday has arrived!!  We've had a crazy couple of weeks that prayer and our faith helped us get through.

Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs!

Thankful Thursday!!!

I am SO thankful that Joe's heart cath went well.  He did need a new stent, which makes #5.  Dr. Owen was happy with how it went.  We so trust our cardiologist.  He has done all of Joe's stents, the first one in 2003, and he also goes to our church.  He told me he looked at the other four stents and they are all open and functioning fine.  I can bring him home this morning.

I am feeling better, but still suffer some horrid coughing spells that are embarrassing and they hurt. I hope I can be done with that soon!

Thank you all, who have been praying for us.  Thank you!

I thought you might enjoy this little 'funny' that I got by email from my friend, Lois...

SENIORS COFFEE GROUP, OVER-HEARD IN A FLORIDA DINER....

A group of seniors were sitting around talking about their ailments at the diner.

"My arms have got so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee," said one.

"Yes, I know," said another. "My cataracts are so bad; can't even see my coffee."

"I couldn't even mark an "X" at election time because my hands are so crippled," volunteered a third.

"What? Speak up! What? I can't hear you, said one elderly lady!

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said one, to which several nodded weakly in agreement.

"My blood pressure pills make me so dizzy!" exclaimed another.

"I forget where I am and where I'm going," said another.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man as he slowly shook his head.

The others nodded in agreement.

"Well, count your Blessings," said a woman cheerfully...

“Thank God we can all still drive."

Thanks for your visit today!  Peace & love!

Fall is Here and so is the Wednesday Hodgepodge!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 236
Thank you, Joyce, for another Hodgepodge full of great questions for us!  Answer the questions on your blog and then hop back over to Joyce's blog to link up with everyone!  Always fun!

1. What have you 'fallen for' recently? It's the first question and I don't have an answer...unless to say I've fallen victim to a miserable cold!

2. What's something you're 'squirreling away' for later?  I'm not squirreling anything away, but Joe ordered three boxes of his favorite fall cookie and he is being very stingy with them... Ivan's Famous Spiced Wafers.

3. How do you like your apples? Sweet? Tart? Crisp? Cooked? Apples are one of the superfoods for fall...how often do you eat an apple either plain or as part of a favorite recipe? What's your favorite variety? I like tart and crisp apples.  I don't eat one every day, but rather go in spurts. Most often, I buy Granny Smith apples because I can never get my absolute favorite apple down here in Florida.  Cortland is THE BEST and I miss getting them from the Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Maryland. I like apple crisp, apple pie, apple cake....and Cortlands.

4. According to Fodor's the ten best fall foliage trips in the US of A are-Aspen ColoradoThe Catskills New York, The Berkshires Massachusetts, Columbia River Gorge Oregon, Green Mountain Byway Vermont, Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway New Mexico, Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, Upper Peninsula Michigan, Lake of the Ozarks Missouri, and Glacier National Park Montana. Which would you most like to visit this fall and why?  Well, I've seen some beautiful foliage in Ohio and Virginia, too, but it is hard to beat the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.  I would be happy for a quick trip up that way next month.

5. The topic of legalizing marijuana was raised in the most recent televised political debate so let's wade in too. Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form. Four states have legalize marijuana for recreational use. Your thoughts?  I am not for legalizing it for recreational use.  I believe that it is fine to use it for medicine and it can be controlled for that.  I've never smoked pot, so it is easy for me to say no. It has been proven to kill brain cells and to lead to stronger drugs.  Smoking tobacco leads to cancer too... Everything like this always boils down to politics and money.

6. Are you okay to watch a movie already in progress or do you need to always see it from the beginning? How about jumping into a TV series somewhere in the middle? Is that okay? Of course it is "okay", but I can't watch a movie from the middle if I've never seen it before. I have to watch from the beginning. Same for a TV series.  Years ago, Joe and I watched five seasons of The Sopranos in two weeks so we could be caught up for the next season on HBO. We are TV addicts. We are.

7. Thursday (September 24) is National Punctuation Day. What rule of punctuation trips you up most often? Using a comma. I tend to put too many commas in sentences. What rule of punctuation, when broken by someone else, bugs you the most? Let's not even go there! LOL

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  It isn't really random, but as you are reading this, Joe and I are most likely at the hospital for his heart catheterization.  Whisper a prayer for him and his cardiologist, please!

---------------------------------

I did make it into work yesterday and finished the reports I needed to do. I was only there a couple of hours. I am also feeling a little better. The medicine is working and sleeping through the night helps immensely.

Thanks for peeking in today!  Peace & hugs!!

Tuesday Tidbit....

I got up yesterday morning and called my doctor for an appointment. They were able to 'work me in' thank goodness.

I got an antibiotic and some codeine cough syrup.  My whole body aches from coughing. She wanted me to stay home today, but I need a couple of hours to finish the financial reports for August. It won't take me long.

Joe's procedure is definitely scheduled for Wednesday. It was confirmed today.

Crazy week. Crazy.

Thanks for your kind words and for your prayers!  Peace & hugs!

It's a Monday....

Dear friends, I spent a perfectly lousy Sunday coughing and blowing. It's been over a year since I had a cold and I am not happy about this.

No fever, just misery.  Doing my best to keep it from Joe. We don't want anything to interfere with his procedure this Wednesday.  Prayers appreciated!!

I have already called my boss to take today off. Blecht.

Peace & hugs!!

Saturday 9: Time for Me to Fly

Time for Me to Fly

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Time for Me to Fly (1978)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) How often have you flown so far this year?  Not once this year.

2) Think back to your last flight. Was it pleasant, stressful, or just uneventful?  Uneventful.

3) According to the Airports Council International, the world’s busiest airport is Atlanta's Hartsfield. Have you ever been to Atlanta?  Yes.

4) This week’s featured band, REO Speedwagon, took their name from a truck. Have you ever driven a truck?  Does an SUV count? If not, then no.

5) REO Speedwagon got their start in Champaign, Illinois, which is home to the U of I campus and, consequently, many bars. One of the most popular is the Blind Pig on Walnut Street. Give us the name of the bar, club or restaurant where you met up with friends in your younger days. Ziggy's.

6) Recently, lead singer Kevin Cronin appeared on an infomercial, hawking TimeLife’s two CD set of Ultimate Rock Ballads. Have you ever purchased anything from TV?  Yes, but not in a long time.

7) This song is from the CD, You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can’t Tunafish. Is there a can of tuna in your kitchen right now?  There is always a can of tuna in my pantry. I like tuna.

8) You Can Tuna Piano, but You Can’t Tunafish is available on eBay on vinyl, CD, cassette and 8 track. Did you have an 8 track player?  Nope.

9) In 1978, when this song was popular, the first Susan B. Anthony Dollar was minted. How much do you have in coins in your wallet right now?  $1.86.

Thanks for checking in for my answers to this week's Saturday:9 and thanks to 'Crazy Sam' for another interesting Meme!

UPDATE on JOE:  He is HOME!!!  They signed him out yesterday afternoon!  He has a couple of new meds to take and still has to get the heart cath next week, but he is feeling good and will hopefully continue to feel good.  The arrhythmia was caused by very low magnesium, so he has to take a magnesium supplement for 10 days.  When our systems get out of whack, nasty things happen.

Thank you to everyone who offered prayers for him (and me). Thank you.  Please keep him on your lists through the procedure next week. Thanks again!

Peace & hugs.

Prayer & Praise Friday!

Every Friday and then all week long, prayer requests are honored and praise reports are celebrated!!
Leave your requests and/or reports in your comments below.
The power of prayer is an awesome and wondrous thing!

Perhaps one of these will help you with your concerns today.

My requests come forward from previous posts for Bruce and Tammy, Karen and Lee.  Adding Nancy and Art to the list. Nancy has cancer AND shingles; her husband Art was just diagnosed with prostrate cancer. Both are fighting the fight. Thank you for your prayers!!

Some of you know that Joe is having heart problems (yesterday's post).  He is doing much better but they are keeping him until Saturday. We are feeling the love & prayers and thank you for that!  Dr. Owen (his cardiologist) is out of town right now.  It has been decided that we will wait for his return, so the cath will be done Wednesday, as originally planned.  This latest arrhythmia has been a little big hiccup. Thankfully it is under control now and will hopefully stay that way. Prayers are still appreciated!

Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

Thursday catch-up....

I wanted to ask for prayer a day earlier than my Prayer & Praise Friday.

I got home from work yesterday to find Joe having some chest pain.  His blood pressure was really high and his heart was racing.  He was scheduled for a heart catheterization on Friday, but they moved it to next Wednesday instead.  Now it looks like he may get it today.

I rushed him to the ER.  We got there around 6:00.  By 8:30 they had his heart settled down and his BP was back to normal.  They went ahead and admitted him and he MAY get the procedure tomorrow. I hope so!!

I got home around 10:45 last night.  Will go in today around 8:00 unless they schedule him for the procedure earlier than that.

Your prayers are appreciated.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks so much!  Peace & hugs.

Peace & hugs!!

Saturday:9 "That's All"

That's All

Welcome to Saturday: 9.  What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants’ posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: That's All (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In the lyrics, Phil Collins sings of a time he was wrong when he thought he was right. Tell us about a recent time when you got it wrong. I suffer no delusions about always being right. I was registering our supervisors for a supervisors conference coming up next month and put them all under my name as guests. Seems I needed to register each one separately..... I fixed it and all is good. I do blame it on the instructions, though. I'm pretty good at following instructions.

2) The song is addressed to a lover that Phil clearly feels is contrary. When he says, "day," she says, "night." Is there anyone in your life who seems to disagree with you all or most of the time? No, at least not that I know of.

3) This was Genesis' first Top 10 hit in the US. Can you name another Phil Collins or Genesis song? Another Day In Paradise

4) Phil Collins is a model train enthusiast. Is there anything special that you collect? Not anymore. Tired of dusting 'stuff' and looking for space to put it.

5) Collins was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. At the ceremony, he delivered the commencement address. When did you last give a presentation or deliver a speech? I did the welcome to start the graduation ceremonies when I graduated from Warner University at age 50. I am terrified of public speaking and have avoided it since then - though it was an honor to be chosen to represent my class in this way.

6) One of Phil Collins' early solo albums was called, Hello, I Must Be Going. He took the title from a song in the 1930 Marx Bros. movie, Animal Crackers. What's the last black and white movie or TV show that you watched? Gosh, I can't remember. I catch an old show now and then when flipping through channels, but I really don't remember.

7) In 1983, when this song was popular, the Lotus 1-2-3 program made it easier for PC users to build spreadsheets. Are you answering these questions on a PC or a Mac? Laptop or desktop? Tablet or phone? Laptop. And for the record, I used Lotus 1-2-3 long before we ever heard of Excel. That was back in the early 1980s.

8) 1983 is also the year when McDonald's introduced McNuggets. What's your favorite chicken recipe (assuming it's not McNuggets)? I do Italian Chicken Cutlets most often because Joe loves them. No one can beat my Granny Kelly's fried chicken, though. You must use lard to get even close to the taste of hers.

9) In 1983, President Reagan signed the bill making Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday a holiday. What's your favorite holiday? It used to be Christmas. Now it's a holiday whenever lots of family can gather. I miss big family holiday gatherings. It's hardly worth putting up a Christmas tree these days. Bah humbug.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for another fun Saturday:9!!

Other than church this evening, we don't have any plans for the weekend. Happy for some down time. Come what may.... Thanks for your visit today! Peace & hugs.

Prayer & Praise Friday!

After seeing the movie "War Room" last weekend, I have started thinking of this Friday Prayer & Praise post as a digital war room!  The power of prayer is so awesome.  We do have an awesome God.

You may put any prayer requests in your comments and know that they will be prayed for daily by all who visit here (hopefully!).  We also love hearing about answered prayers or any praise you want to add. Thank you for your visit and participation.

My requests come forward from last week, for Bruce & Tammy, Karen & Lee, Cindee & Rick.

On this anniversary of the horror we experienced on September 11, 2001, I also want to add a prayer for our country and for our law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs. There is so much evil out there right now. It will take mighty and many prayers to bring the USA back to God.

In God We DO Trust!!  In God we MUST trust!

If you get the chance to see "War Room" please don't miss it. It is powerful.  God bless!
