Sunday Stealing.....

I never did find the Saturday:9 meme, but Sunday Stealing did show up in my feed, so let's give this a try..... and thanks to Bud Weiser for finding The Gongerling Meme for us today!''

The Gongerling Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes (or surveys) from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard the expression, “honor among thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from. When possible, we contact the owner of the blog where we stole the post. We also provide a link to the victim's meme in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from this new meme or recently asked questions from a previously featured meme.

We Found this gem from a blogger named Dana from the blog “Amid Life Crises”. She states that this “started out as Jay doingSavannah's “Questions” meme”. She actually wrote some of the questions. But, this is a far as we go. At least we aren’t stealing a meme that came from one of our previous meme blogs. The funny thing about last week’ meme coming from “Rock ‘n Roll Friday” is how l didn’t realize it. Okay, now time for me to shout:

Cheer to all of us thieves!!

1. You’re building your dream house. What’s the one thing that this house absolutely, positively MUST HAVE? (other than the obvious basics of course)  More than the "basic" storage space, please!

2. What is your dream car?  One that starts when I turn the key, is somewhat good for gas mileage, and can take me from one place to another safely.  I've never been a car snob.

3. What is your favorite website that isn’t a blog.   www.PolkMuseumofArt.org   of course!!

4. iPhone or Droid, which do you want/have?  I have a "droid" and will stay loyal to the species!

5. When you’re feeling down or lonely or just generally out of sorts, what do you do to cheer yourself up?  It has been a long, long time since I felt down or lonely.  Out of sorts makes me seek a nap.

6. Tell me about something or someone that you love that most people seem to hate.  I can't think of anyone who fits that description.

7. What did you want to be when you grew up?  I have wanted to be a beautician, an art teacher, and an architect. That I ended up an accountant in an art museum seems fitting, but was the farthest thing from my mind when I was a kid.

8. Would you go on a reality show if given the chance?  No!!

9. Who was your favorite teacher when you were growing up? (Grade school, Middle School, Jr. High or High School only.)  Our band director, Mr. Hoeltzel. He taught me to play trumpet when I was in fifth grade and led our marching band to win many awards over the years.

10. You get one pass to do something illegal or immoral. What are you gonna do?  Not a thing, pass or no pass.  You have to live with yourself.

11. What were you doing 10 years ago?  Pretty much the same thing I am doing today.  Married to Joe, living in the same house and working in the same museum.

12. By this time next year, I ... WILL BE RETIRED!!!!  :)

13. What is something that you need to do but you've procrastinated on?  Start cleaning out cupboards and every other nook and cranny that haven't seen the light of day for years.

14. Which fictional, TV show character you would shag anytime?  Not one of them.

15. What is your greatest pet peeve?  People who are late and packages that don't have an easy "open here" that works.

16. Tell me about your most recent trip of more than 100 miles?  I've blogged about our visit to Folly Beach, South Carolina.

17. Which do you use more often, the dictionary or the thesaurus?  Probably the thesaurus.

18. Do you have a nickname?  Yes.  What is it?  Terri  (for Teresa)

19. What are you dreading at the moment?  Packing to move, hopefully after the first of the year. Dreading the work, but looking forward to it too.

20. Do you have a meme you think we should steal?  Nope. Sorry!  (Yes, an old trick. But c'mon now. I gotta give it a shot. It's a lot harder to find memes now. But it's ok to answer "You're lazy" an all it a day.)
Thank you for playing this week on Sunday Stealing! Please leave a comment or link when you have posted. Stop back and visit other player’s posts. That is really what this is all about, making new friends! Have a great week. See you next Sunday!

Thanks for your visit! Have a blessed Sunday!  Peace & hugs.

Friday Foto Friends....

Linking up with Debbie for Friday Foto Friends!  Stop by Breathing In Grace to join in....

I've mentioned before that I pamper myself every four weeks with a facial.  Dawn has been my aesthetician and friend for over 10 years now.  I even got Joe to go several years ago and he goes every four weeks now, too.  Dawn actually has quite a few male clients (mostly for waxing, which Joe does NOT have done! LOL).

Dawn rents one of her rooms to Richard, who does massage therapy.  I personally think the facial is more relaxing (for me) than a massage.

This is the entrance and reception window but Dawn doesn't have a receptionist.  Her daughter is studying to be an aesthetician and may start working there soon.

This little cutie greets Dawn every morning and in the evenings because she always has a snack for him.  He greets me too and lets me pet him.  He lives just across the alley from the building Dawn is in, and sometimes brings a tabby friend with him.

This is where the magic happens. I always get a deep cleansing and then moisture. It is an amazing facial. If you've never had one, I highly recommend it!!

Our photographer, at work, was doing new 'head shots' for staff yesterday.  Mine turned out okay.  It was fun doing it outside, with the trees as the backdrop.

The auditors finished with the field work yesterday!  Hooray!  They said it went well and they didn't find anything out of place.  Thank goodness it's Friday!  Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

Time for the Girls to Fess Up.....

I'm not going to talk audit with you because other than to let you know it is going well, no one is interested in my stress levels! Ha!

My friend, Melody, may get to go home tomorrow! I'm waiting to hear from her. Praise God. She will go home with a feeding tube and goes back to Moffitt in two weeks to see if the tumor has gone. Prayers continue.

Blogging friend, Brenda Keefer, posted this little ditty on Facebook earlier this week and I snagged it to use today, knowing it would fill up some space and is kind of cute.....

Girls FESS UP

1. Hair down or up? Short and curly...down.
2. Jeans or yogas? jeans
3. Painted or not painted nails? not painted
4. Favorite color? green, purple, red
5. T shirt or dress shirt? t-shirt
6. Flip flops or sneakers? sneakers
7. Big purse or small? Huge!
8. Tattoos? None
9. Piercings? Just ears
10. Diamonds or pearls? neither, really
11. Favorite animal? love them all, partial to cats
12. Favorite food? too many to list, start with shrimp
13. Rap or country music? Country
14. Height? 5'11"
15. Sports or couch? Couch

I had lunch yesterday with Helen and Cheryl.  It was good to catch up with them, even though we invited them to dinner tomorrow night. Twice in one week is great! I'm making dessert so we can go back to our house and visit longer.

That's all I've got except to thank you for your visit!  Wishing your peace, love & hugs.

A True Hodgepodge Hodgepodge Wednesday....

Joyce asks the questions, we answer then link up with all the other Hodgepodgers. Join the fun by clicking her button below!

1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your summer so far?  An 8.  Why? (1=eh and 10=best summer ever)  It's been pretty good so far. We traveled to Ohio for my niece's wedding and got to see friends and family we hadn't seen in a long time, which was wonderful.  We spent a few days with some of my immediate family members (siblings and their families) in South Carolina, at Folly Beach, which was also wonderful. While there I got to meet blogging friend, Pam Lofton and one of her lovelies, Molly.  Also wonderful!  Next month, Joe and I have a long weekend reserved over on St. Pete Beach - just the two of us.  The only reason I didn't say it was a 10 is because I came home from Ohio with a terrible cold that took three weeks to get rid of, and last weekend was the stomach bug.....

2. July 26th is National Aunts and Uncles Day. Did you have many aunts and uncles growing up?  I was blessed with lots of Aunts & Uncles!  Were you especially close to any one or maybe all of them?  Growing up, I was close to my dad's brother and his wife (Uncle Bill and Aunt Dot) and also my GREAT Aunt Dorothy and GREAT Uncle Jim.  They were my mom's aunt & uncle.  Loved them so much.  Also had Aunt Chloe & Uncle Den; Aunt Mabel and Uncle Charlie; Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Mike; and Uncle Bob and Aunt Jean.  Are you an aunt?  Yes, I am!! (or uncle for the men who join here on Wednesdays) Share a favorite memory relating to one of your own aunts or uncles or relating to a niece or nephew who call you Aunt (or Uncle).  Oh my goodness, I have so many memories of them all.  So blessed.  I always spent a week in the summer at Uncle Bill & Aunt Dot's.  My cousin, Tom, was like a big brother and my cousin, Peggy, was who I looked up to. She was older and would polish my nails.  I loved it when she paid attention to me.  My favorite memory of Aunt Dot, though, has to do with the mounds and mounds and mounds of Christmas cookies she always baked.  Oh my goodness, where did all those cookies go!!  I remember that we would watch the gospel singers on TV Sunday mornings and that's where I fell in love with close harmony of quartets and gospel songs.  Who remembers the Blackwood Brothers?

3. What's your favorite food dipped in chocolate?  Toffee, but most anything is good covered in chocolate.  Ha!  What's your favorite food dipped in cheese?  If it isn't covered in chocolate, then cover it in cheese. Either makes anything better!  LOL   I'll take something cheese over something chocolate any day, though. Love me some cheese!

4. When were you last astonished by something?  Yesterday!  Explain.  The price of gasoline is down to $1.95 here in Lakeland!!  I jumped for joy!!  (Kind of sad, isn't it?)

5. Surf board, paddle board, ironing board, Pinterest board, score board, clip board, bulletin board...which board have you most recently encountered?  Oh my...probably a Pinterest board.

6. What's your favorite story from scripture?  The Wedding at Cana is ONE of my favorites.  Why that story?  It was His first miracle, but He also listened to His mother.  Have you ever thought of that?  She is the one who asked that he 'do something'.  He listened to His mother and that is one of the reasons that we Catholics feel confident asking the Blessed Mother to intercede for us in prayer.  He listens to His mother and also believed in family honor and marriage!!  It is also foretold in the Old Testament. I love finding the links from the Old Testament to the New.  Check this:  they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD—the grain, the new wine . . .” (Jeremiah 31:12) The Old Testament is full of clues to tell us what is coming.

7. If you were to travel from the east coast to the west coast in your own country, which five cities would you most want to see?  I've been to New York City and Washington, DC so they won't count.  Indianapolis, Chicago, Waco, Santa Fe, Las Vegas....BUT I really like seeing the smaller towns where the real life in the state happens. I would love to just set out across country with no plans and see the "real" America.  That big ball of twine and some silly hall of fame that makes no sense but you love it anyway.  How about all the little festivals that happen across America. Give me a schedule for those too!

8. Insert your own random thought here.  Joyce, you really got me 'talking' and thinking today! I'll look forward to everyone's answers!!  Happy Hodgepodge and Hump Day!!  Peace & hugs.

Thankful Tuesday....

I heard from my dear friend, Melody, yesterday.  I've mentioned her, asking for prayer in previous blogs.  She is in the hospital with a cancerous tumor in her neck. It is too big and wrapped around too many important things to make surgery possible so she has been getting radiation and chemo.  She has lost weight and is not doing well at all.  I ask that those of you who have her on your prayer lists to please keep her there!  I am going to try to get up to see her this week. I can't take a day off because of the audit, but perhaps I can get there one evening.  She wouldn't have asked me to come if it wasn't important.  Her husband, daughter and best friend have been with her so I haven't been concerned about her being alone, but am now, since she is reaching out.

We have been through some rough health times with Melody before. She needed a liver transplant because of a very rare kind of hepatitis (no idea how she got it) and got a match not long after coming out of a 3-day coma. I'm so sorry she is going through this again.

I am thankful for her friendship and that she is getting great care at the Moffitt Cancer Center over in Tampa. I am thankful for prayer warriors who really do pray for others. Thank you!

This is Melody at a birthday celebration back in 2010.  Her birthday is August 17th. It would be great to have her home and doing better by then!

----------------------------

Aside from this big concern, the audit started yesterday and is going smoothly so far. It usually does go well since the lead has been here for a few years now and knows how things go. Thankful for that, too!

Sorry for making this post about my friend, but it helps to share and I know I can count on your prayers.  Thanks for checking in!!  Peace, love & hugs.

Weekend Recap on Monday,,,,

There really isn't much to write about!  Friday evening was the going-away reception for our Curator.  It was well attended and very nice.  He and his little family will be missed.

Saturday, Joe and I both had some kind of stomach bug.  We didn't go anywhere.  Sunday we felt better, but still stayed in.  Doing okay today and am off to work shortly.  Have fasting labs first though, and then the auditors start the audit today.  Busy week ahead.

Hope your weekend was more exciting than ours!!  Peace & hugs!

A Beach Boys Sunday Stealing....

The Beach Boys' Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated onWTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser.

We Found this gem from a blogger that we stole from once before, Stacy of the blog “All Stacy All the Time”. She states that she stole it from "Lola’s Diner". But that's as far as I'll go. Tracing it back further might be crazier than a Trump speech. So as we sub for our current author, Kwizgiver, we will shout:

Cheer to all of us thieves!!

Sunday Stealing: The Beach Boys' Meme

1. SURFER GIRL : “I have watched you on the shore, standing by the ocean drawer, do you love me do you surfer girl” Were you ever interested in someone (other than a celebrity) who did not return your interest?   Yes.  In 9th grade, I had such a crush on a senior boy/football star who could have cared less about a skinny freshman with acne.  His loss, though!  LOL

2. BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL : “So be true to your school now, just like you would for your girl or guy…” Looking back, how do you feel about your high school days?   I had a blast in high school. It was great fun.

3. FUN FUN FUN : “…and she’ll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes the T-Bird away…” What was the worst punishment you received as a teenager?  One of my dad's "talks" was always worse than a spanking or grounding.  He could make you feel terrible by just explaining how stupid you had been and how it impacts you and everyone around you.  I will say that being the first born with all the baggage that comes with, I was rarely in trouble.

4. I GET AROUND : “Round round get around, I get around” Where did you go on your last long trip?  We went to Ohio in May and to South Carolina in June.

5. HELP ME RHONDA : “You gotta help me Rhonda, help me get her off of my mind” What do you do to cheer up after a personal tragedy such as a lost job, power outage or broken relationship?  A power outage is a personal tragedy?  That made me laugh!  Well, after processing the tragedy and how it will change my life (or not) I just pull up my big girl panties and carry on.  What more can we do? Life goes on and we find a new "normal" or a new routine.

6. CALIFORNIA GIRLS : “I wish they all could be California girls. The west coast has the sunshine and the girls there get so tan, I dig a French bikini on Hawaiian island dolls, by a palm tree in the sand” Where are the best boys found?  I haven't a clue. I quit looking over 30 years ago!!

7. SLOOP JOHN B : “I wanna go home, please let me go home, ya ya. Well this is the worst trip, I’ve ever been on…” What is the worst trip you’ve ever been on?  Probably traveling to Ohio on my birthday back in 1989 because my dad only had days to live. As it turned out, he passed away the next morning. The flight from Florida to Ohio was lonely and sad and not how anyone should have to spend their birthday (or any day really).

8. WOULDN’T IT BE NICE : “I guess the more we talk about it, it makes it harder just to live without it, but let’s talk about it…” What is your biggest wish?  A cure for cancer.

9. IN MY ROOM : “There’s a place where I can go and tell my secrets to. In my room. In my room.” What is your favorite thing about your own personal room or space in your home/office?  At home, I share all of the space with my best friend, who is always a welcome part of my personal space.  At work, I love my office which is away from visitors and most staff.  It is quiet and has a great view.  As much as I enjoy interacting with my co-workers, it is good to have a quiet place when working on numbers all day.

10. GOD ONLY KNOWS : “You never need to doubt it, I’ll make you so sure about it. God only knows what I feel about you” When was the last time you told a significant other or close relative that you loved them?  I tell Joe every day, sometimes more than once, and every time we speak with family and friends. I am blessed to hear it in return, too!  Better than that, I feel it.

11. GOOD VIBRATIONS : “My baby has good vibrations, she’s giving me excitations…” When do you get good vibrations?  When I see Joe walking toward me or sitting across from me....

12. KOKOMO : “We’ll go to Kokomo. We’ll get there fast and then we’ll take it slow. That’s where I wanna go…” What is your favorite warm weather destination?  It is warm all the time here in Florida, but I enjoy the Gulf breezes at the beach.

13. DO IT AGAIN : “Let’s get back together and do it again…” If you could go back in time and gather up your school friends, what would you do again?  How about a trip to New York City, like we did for our senior class trip?  Had a blast and would love seeing a couple of shows and eating at Mama Leone's again (but the restaurant is gone)!  Old enough to have a glass of wine now! :)

Thanks to Stacy for stepping in for Kwizgiver for the Sunday Stealing Meme today!!

Happy Sunday to you and thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

A Surfin' Saturday:9

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Surf City (1963)

... Because Melissa suggested Jan and Dean. Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) When the song was written, "Surf City" was a fictitious town.* Tell us a song that is set in a real place.  New York, New York and My Kind of Town (Chicago).  Frank sang them both quite well!

2) In the song, Jan and Dean sing about riding around in a 1934 station wagon, which means the car was 29 years old when the song was recorded. How old is your vehicle?  My Kia Sportage is 10 years old.  The Ford Escort I traded in when I got it was 12 years old.  We keep them and care for them as long as we can!

3) Are you good on a surf board?  I have never tried it and would not try it now (maybe for $1M....).

4) When you spend time out in the sun, are you careful about applying sunscreen?  Indeed. I burn in about 10 minutes unless I have on at least SPF30.

5) Dean's original partner was Arnie Ginsburg. When Dean was drafted into the Army, Arnie didn't feel like waiting so he abandoned show business and went back to college. Today he holds several patents. What is something you wish someone would invent?  How about a diet pill that really, really works?!!

6) Jan was a perpetual student who juggled college with recording. He not only graduated from UCLA, he completed two years of medical school at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Have you ever considered going back to school?  I did go back to school at age 48 and graduated Magna Cum Laude with my BA Degree at age 50.  It CAN be done!

7) In 1966, Jan was sidelined by a serious car accident. During the years that he was unable to perform, partner Dean became a graphic artist. He designed logos and album covers for Steve Martin, Diana Ross and others. Do you feel you respond most to words, pictures, or music?  I respond to all three about the same.

8) In 1978, CBS made a TV movie about Jan and Dean. If they approached you about a made-for-TV movie of your life, who would you like to play you?  Ha ha ha!!  It would have to be someone with a huge sense of humor to make it even a little bit interesting.  How about Melissa McCarthy?  I love her!

9) Random question: Growing up, how did you learn about the birds and the bees? (From books/the web, from parents, from your friends...)  Well, my mom liked to tell this story about me.  When I was a mere 5 or 6, she got a book for my age group from the library to read to me about "the birds and the bees".  She started reading it to me and says that after about 10 minutes I looked up at her and asked when we would get to the good parts.  True story.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!  *Huntington Beach changed it's name to Surf City in the 1990s.

Thanks to Crazy Sam Winters for this week's Saturday:9!!  Thanks for your visit today! Happy Saturday!  Peace & hugs!

Friday Foto Friends.....

Hello and happy Friday!!  Linking up with Debbie, over at Breathing in Grace, for Friday Foto Friends!

I haven't really had a chance to get any new photos to share on this Friday Foto Friends day, but when I pulled into the driveway last night, this is what I saw in our yard!  The Ibis were having a feast on bugs after the rain.  They were eating their way through the neighborhood.  Please click on the photos to see the birds better!

Here is some information about the White Ibis:  http://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/white-ibis

From that website, I pulled this feeding information:

Feeding Behavior
Forages by walking slowly in shallow water, sweeping bill from side to side and probing on the bottom. Also forages on land, especially on mud or in short grass. Finds food by touch while probing, by sight at other times, seizing items from the surface. White Ibises may steal food from each other and, in turn, have food stolen from them by larger species.

Aside from the Ibis, tonight is a going away party, at the Museum, for our Curator, Adam.  We sure do hate to see him go.  He is the best we have had since I've been at the Museum, and that's saying something because our Curator before Adam was also quite good.  It will be sad to see him go.  He is moving on to a larger museum, up in North Carolina. We sure wish him well. He is young, with a fabulous career ahead of him.

I did have a nice lunch yesterday, with my girlfriends.  Cindee, who just had the brain surgery a couple of months ago, looks fabulous!  Her hair is growing back and she looks healthy! It was great to see her doing so well!!

No other plans for the weekend as of yet. Happy Friday!  Peace & hugs!!

Throwback Thursday....

I was clicking through old photos, looking for something to share for Throwback Thursday.....

Years ago, I was a member of our church's Parish Council.  It was interesting and also a little maddening.  Not a job I ever want again.  Our Priest asked me to step in and finish the term for someone who moved away.  Been there, done that.  God bless those who serve.

I think I posted these several years ago, but they make me happy so here they are again!  My mom made these two dresses for my sister Patti and me.  We were going to march in the Washington Court House, Ohio, sesquicentennial celebration parade, way back in 1960. Patti actually won first prize for "Prettiest Baby".  She had a head full of red curls, all covered up in this picture.

Fast forward to many, many years later and my niece Sara (who just got married) wore my dress and my niece Kelly (Patti's daughter) wore Patti's dress for a parade in McConnelsville, Ohio.  I think Patti still has the dresses.  My mom was a wonderful seamstress (among other things!).

I don't have a photo to illustrate, but last night Joe had a great phone conversation with his old roommate from when he graduated from college and (they both) started working in New York City for Arthur Andersen (CPAs).  Dick is also our son Jeff's Godfather.  He and Joe have known each other for about 55 years. I'm so happy they connected and got to talk.  Dick is older (85) and is on oxygen now 24/7.  He sounded great, though, and it was fun for me to listen to them reminiscing.

That's all I have for today!  I appreciate your visit and love your comments! Peace & hugs!!

Hodgepodge Time...

Joyce has come through yet again with a very fun Hodgepodge of questions, just waiting for our answers and link-ups!  Click on her button below to join the fun!  Thanks Joyce!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 274
Yikes. I haven't been on the ol' blog since last week's Hodgepodge, but sometimes life is like that. Here we go again...answer on your own blog then jump back here tomorrow to add your link to the mix. See you there!

1. Pokemon Go...your thoughts?  I had to look it up a few days ago, to see what the heck it was all about!!  Are you playing?  No, I'm not playing.  I play solitaire and Panda Pop.  That should tell you my skill level with digital games!  Do you even know what it is?  I do now, but didn't until a few days ago!

2. What was something you collected as a child?  Nancy Drew books.  I had 52 of them.  Do you still have that collection?  No.  I have two younger sisters who got all of my books and toys.  If you're a parent what's something your own children collected?  I'm a step-parent, but know that our two boys had a big collection of Hot Wheels, and Jeff had a beer can collection - remember Billy Beer?  He had a couple of those, too.  Have you ever camped out, stood in a crazy long queue, or paid a ridiculous sum for a 'collectible'?  Absolutely not.  I don't stand in line to get into a restaurant either.  If we ever have to stand in a bread line, I will most likely go hungry.  No patience for long lines or a long wait.

3. "Collect moments, not things"...tell us about a moment you've added to your collection this summer.  I collected lots of precious moments at my niece's wedding and at Folly Beach.  The summer isn't over yet!!  Looking forward to a long weekend at the beach with my sweetheart next month.

4.  What's something collecting dust in your home right now? Any plans to do something about it?  My jewelry/craft cart.  I will begin to create again when I retire, and we are in our new, smaller home with less to clean.  Then I will have time to devote to it again!  Spring of 2017 hopefully!

5. A favorite song relating to time?  Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle

6. What's been your most frightening or your most interesting encounter with wildlife?  If snakes count, when I was in high school (Biology class age, so 15 or 16), my BFF Elaine and I were out in the woods on a Saturday, along the Ohio Erie Canal, looking for snakes. (We were not prissy girls.)   I'm not sure why we thought snake hunting was a good idea, but I had a forked stick and saw some baby snakes right at the water's edge.  I stuck the stick under them and picked up babies AND their momma.  I dropped the stick and backed up, but stumbled and sat down on the bank (it was a hill) only to realize I sat down right in the middle of a nest of snakes (fortunately garter snakes) and scared them more than they scared me - though it's a wonder I didn't wet my pants.  I never again went snake hunting after that.  Elaine reads my blog and responds by email....do you remember that Elaine?

I loved biology and Elaine wanted to be a nurse.  My brother used to gig frogs back along that same canal.  Once we dissected a frog right after he killed it so we could see the heart still beating (check this link - it's true).  We did stuff like that in the name of science. I did get A's in biology.  My other BFF, Karen, was my biology lab partner.  We had some fun times too, didn't we Karen?!!

7.  On July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong set his foot down on the moon. If you could travel to the moon would you go?  Nope.  Why or why not?  Limited to no shopping, groceries....seriously, I am not that adventurous.  I am the grandma who holds everyone's purses and bags while they go on the roller coaster (though I used to like roller coasters...too old and decrepit now!).

8. Insert your own random thought here.  Y'all know about my bad knees because I whine about them more than I should on here, but for the last week or so, my hip has been hurting. I think it might be sciatica rather than bone though.  My leg gets all prickly if I stand for too long.  The pain starts at the base of my spine, but on the left side only and then becomes like a toothache only it's my hip.  I have a prescription for tramadol that I only take when my knees get really bad, but I've been taking it twice a day (as prescribed) because of the hip pain.  It doesn't go away, but becomes tolerable. I've thought about going to the chiropractor, but I'm not sure he can help either.  Any advice?  I'm open to suggestions, please!  I do see my regular doctor in two weeks and will definitely tell her about it, if it hasn't gone away by then.

Thanks for your visit!!  Happy hump day!!  Peace & hugs.

Take Me Back Tuesday!!

Found this and enjoyed the look-back.  I remember it all, do you?

WASN'T THIS US ?

A little house with two or three bedrooms,
One bathroom and one car on the street.
A mower that you had to push
To make the grass look neat.

In the kitchen on the wall
We only had one phone,
And no need for recording things,
Someone was always home.

We only had a living room
Where we would congregate,
Unless it was at mealtime
In the kitchen where we ate.

We had no need for family rooms
Or extra rooms to dine.
When meeting as a family
Those two rooms would work out fine.

We only had one TV set
And channels maybe two,
But always there was one of them
With something worth the view.

For snacks we had potato chips
That tasted like a chip.
And if you wanted flavor
There was Lipton's onion dip.

Store-bought snacks were rare because
My mother liked to cook
And nothing can compare to snacks
In Betty Crocker's book.

Weekends were for family trips
Or staying home to play.
We all did things together --
Even go to church to pray.

When we did our weekend trips
Depending on the weather,
No one stayed at home because
We liked to be together.

Sometimes we would separate
To do things on our own,
But we knew where the others were
Without our own cell phone.

Then there were the movies
With your favorite movie star,
And nothing can compare
To watching movies in your car.

Then there were the picnics
At the peak of summer season,
Pack a lunch and find some trees
And never need a reason.

Get a baseball game together
With all the friends you know,
Have real action playing ball --
And no game video.

Remember when the doctor
Used to be the family friend,
And didn't need insurance
Or a lawyer to defend?

The way that he took care of you
Or what he had to do,
Because he took an oath and strived
To do the best for you.

Remember going to the store
And shopping casually,
And when you went to pay for it
You used your own money?

Nothing that you had to swipe
Or punch in some amount,
And remember when the cashier person
Had to really count?

The milkman used to go
From door to door,
And it was just a few cents more
Than going to the store.

There was a time when mailed letters
Came right to your door,
Without a lot of junk mail ads
Sent out by every store.

The mailman knew each house by name
And knew where it was sent;
There were not loads of mail addressed
To "present occupant."

There was a time when just one glance
Was all that it would take,
And you would know the kind of car,
The model and the make.

They didn't look like turtles
Trying to squeeze out every mile;
They were streamlined, white walls, fins
And really had some style.

One time the music that you played
Whenever you would jive,
Was from a vinyl, big-holed record
Called a forty-five.

The record player had a post
To keep them all in line
And then the records would drop down
And play one at a time.

Oh sure, we had our problems then,
Just like we do today
And always we were striving,
Trying for a better way.

Oh, the simple life we lived
Still seems like so much fun,
How can you explain a game,
Just kick the can and run?

And why would boys put baseball cards
Between bicycle spokes
And for a nickel, red machines
Had little bottled Cokes?

This life seemed so much easier
And slower in some ways.
I love the new technology
But I sure do miss those days.

So time moves on and so do we
And nothing stays the same,
But I sure love to reminisce
And walk down memory lane.

With all today's technology
We grant that it's a plus!
But it's fun to look way back and say,
Hey, guys, THAT WAS US!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.
