Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!

You can find her and join in HERE!

On the Radio

Saturday 9: On the Radio (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The action begins when a letter falls out of the pocket of a brown overcoat. What color is your coat?  I have a light gray windbreaker.  I live in Florida.  I haven't had a coat in years and years.

2) The lyrics ask if it "kinda strikes you sad when you hear our song." We don't want to be sad this Saturday, so we're asking what song makes you happy.  Most music makes me happy but one particular song just doesn't come to mind right now.

3) Right before this song hit the charts, Donna Summer hit the cover of Newsweek. Are there any magazines in your home now? If yes, who is on the cover?  The only magazines we subscribe to now are Reader's Digest and my daily devotional.  I don't have them at hand right now and have no idea what is on the covers.  I did buy a Pioneer Woman magazine at the grocery a while back and Ree was on the front.

4) Donna wrote the lyrics to this song, while producer Giorgio Moroder wrote the tune. Moroder is known as "the father of disco." Is disco a genre you enjoy?  I liked it back in the day and listen when it pops up on the radio but it is not a genre I seek out now.

5) This song got additional airplay throughout the 1980s because the game show, The Price Is Right, played it every time a contestant won a stereo. Today, the most popular audio equipment sold at Best Buy is a soundbar to improve the quality of TV audio. Have you added a soundbar or sound system to your TV?  We had a soundbar about three TVs ago, but do not have one now.

6) Moroder has won two Academy Awards for Best Song. The first was for "Flashdance ... What a Feeling" from Flashdance and the second was for "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun. Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack?  Not particularly.  My Fair Lady, perhaps, or The King and I.  Any of the Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor musicals.

7) He grew up in Ortsei, Italy. Located in Northern Italy, the Ortsei economy is fueled by tourists who ski in winter, hike in summer and shop for woodcarvings all year around. Do out-of-towners fund their way to your hometown more often in summer or winter?  Definitely in the winter.  I live in Central Florida... home of many snowbirds.

8) Kourtney Kardashian was born in 1979, the year this record was a hit. Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on since 2007. Have you ever seen it?  I have never watched that show.

9) Random question -- When getting dressed in the morning, what's the second item of clothing you put on?  My bra.  This could be a little TMI.

Thanks for popping in!  Happy Saturday!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Friday Photos...

I have some photos to share from this week's visit to the farm (Joe's client).  Friday photos...

We had cattle when we entered the lane on Wednesday...

It was a gray, rainy day and the cattle were gathered under a tree.

Except for one that was lounging by the lane.  It got up and moved as we got closer.

My view from the patio.

Pistol & Doc.  I did not take carrots because I didn't think I could
make it down to the pastures.  Aronel took me down in the ATV
and I gave them a few alfalfa squares.

The owner has been doing some controlled burns on the property.
This field was burning as we left.

Here is some of the burned pasture.

And this pasture, where the cattle are, was burned a short three weeks ago.
It greens up nicely.

That's all I have this week. Thanks for stopping by!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Thankful Thursday with Rebecca Jo...

On Thursdays, I link up with Rebecca Jo at Knit By God's Hand, for her Thankful Thursday where we share blessings from our week.  You can join in HERE!!  Thanks, Rebecca Jo!

We had a beautiful Ash Wednesday service at our church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church of America, last night.  It was well attended.  Not all Protestant churches have Ash Wednesday services.  Having come from the Catholic church, Joe and I felt right at home receiving ashes on our foreheads and being reminded of our mortality.  The Lenton season has begun.  We are so thankful for our church and church family!

We had a rainy day yesterday and all night long.  I am so thankful for a good roof over our heads.  It has also gotten cold again (for us) so I am thankful for a warm home.  Thank you, Jesus!

I am so thankful for my husband and best friend, Joe.  He is my rock.  He puts up with me. Wow!

I am thankful that our son, Jeff, got a week off to come down for a visit!  He will be here the week of March 8th.  We are very excited to see him!!  Kali isn't coming. 😭 We will miss her!

Looking forward to and thankful for lunch get-togethers with girlfriends.  Our next is March 6th!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies?  They were on sale and I bought a big box.  Joe doesn't like them.  Thankful that they are all mine! LOL

I am so thankful for my family and good friends, including each of you!!  Thank you for your visits and comments!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Whimsical Wednesday...

There aren't any rules and there is no linky.
Just tell us what you think and see what others think
in the comments.  It's just a whimsical thing...

A gown fit for a princess!
She needs some shoes to wear...

Shoe #1 by Bagley Mischka

Shoe #2 Manolo Blahnik

Shoe #3 by Rene Caovilla

My Thoughts...   The gown is beautiful but I would never wear it.  It's a little too foo-foo for me.  My choice for the shoes is #3.  Again, I can't wear heels and haven't for many years, but I really like #3.

Thanks for your visit!!
Which shoes do you like for this gown?

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Tuesday 4 Meme...

Thanks to Annie for continuing Toni's weekly meme!!  You can join in HERE!!

Odds and Ends Tuesday 4 # 8
Welcome to Tuesday 4 invented by Toni Taddeo and kept up in honor and memory of her.

Let's think about some situations you might run into.

The art of Mary Petty for New Yorker covers.

1.  You're having a lovely dinner party for friends and family.  What will you serve for appetizers, main course, and dessert?  It will definitely be Italian.  I would start with a cheese board that includes olives and peppers.  The main course will be baked ziti with meat sauce, meatballs, and Italian sausage, and some toasty garlic bread.  There will be a good salad with croutons, and dessert will be an Italian cheese pie, made from scratch.  Come on over!!

 2. Snowstorm!    You've got house guests and you're all stuck inside for the night. What do you prepare for dinner?   How about a big pot of chili and some cornbread!  Will you watch a movie? If the power is still on, we might watch a movie.  Which?  Company can choose!!

3. We are going to New York City for the weekend. Where do you want to go?
I don't want to go to New York City.  No thanks.  Y'all just go on ahead without me!

4. You are going to night school.  They offer courses in writing short stories, painting, piano or guitar lessons, simple home repairs, baking, and gardening.
Which do you pick  ( or makeup one of your own)  and why?
From that list, I would pick simple home repairs.

Come back to check on who is posting and try to visit their blogs, won't you please?

Thanks for stopping by today!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Monday's Weekend Recap...

I left off last with photos from the farm (Joe's client) on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we had Bible study at the church.  It's actually called "The Cutting Room" because it is led by our Pastor and he goes over the scriptures and subject for his sermon coming up on Sunday.  He actually listens if we have anything to say. It is a good group and we also have fun.  Joe and I are enjoying it and the group we have joined!

After Bible study, we went to Publix for a few things and then stopped by to see Helen.  She had some mail for Joe.  We try to see her at least once a week and we talk to her every day.

On Friday, Joe got up early to take our car to the dealership.  There was a recall on our 2017 Ford Escape.  They told us it could take four hours, so Joe was planning to get them to shuttle him home but when he checked in, they said it wouldn't take an hour so he just waited.  Bartow Ford has a really nice waiting area with a TV, free coffee, and a little sandwich shop.

Earlier last week I was invited to a ladies brunch on Saturday.  Our neighbor Jill's sister, Judy, and her hubby also live here in Mas Verde.  Jill and Judy went together and had 10-12 of us for a lovely brunch, complete with mimosas. It lasted nearly three hours before it started to break up.  Good food and good conversation.

Sunday was Sunday school and church.  One of our praise team members is Eli Mosley.  He is an up and coming country singer who just opened for Toby Keith  (sorry, it was Tracy Byrd!) last weekend.  He is getting married and has invited the whole church to the wedding!  His parents are part of our Small Group.  Beautiful people.

Today there is nothing on the calendar. Who knows what kind of trouble I'll get into?!!

Thanks for your visit!!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

Getting to Know You

Hi! I'm your host Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

Stolen from 9gag

1. What is your favorite color?  I like rich jewel tones like reds, greens, purples...
2. If you could get on a plane tomorrow and travel anywhere, where would you go?  Italy
3. Were you closer to your mother or to your father?  Probably my mom but dad and I had fun.
4. What is your favorite meal (savory and dessert)  Pasta.  I'm not a big dessert lover but custard is good, like pies or flans, or creme brulee...
5. Can you wink with each eye?  (How about curl your tongue)  I can wink with both eyes but can't curl my tongue.  Makes me crazy because both of my sisters can curl their tongues.
6. Beach or forest?  Beach.
7. City or farm?  Farm.
8. Would you rather be blind from birth or turn blind as a teenager?  I can't even answer this question.
9. Would you rather always be overdressed or underdressed?  I would be much more comfortable underdressed than overdressed.
10. If you could pass along one of your attributes to your children, which would it be?  Be trustworthy.
11. What are you most insecure about?  I'm not really insecure about anything anymore. Comes with age and experience, I think.
12. What are you afraid people see when they look at you?  I don't care. I am who I am.
13. What is the saddest you’ve ever felt?  When I lost my parents and my younger brother.
14. Would you rather have your own private island or your own private jet?  If I had a private island, I would need a jet to get me there!  And also a yacht!
15. How do you think you will die?  This is not something I think about. I have no idea and don't want to know.  My life is in His hands and that is where my trust is.

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Sunday!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Saturday 9... Buttons & Bows

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can

join in by clicking HERE!

Buttons and Bows

Saturday 9: Buttons & Bows (1948)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics extol the beauty of "rings and things and buttons and bows." When you're getting dressed, do you give much thought to accessorizing?  I always wear earrings and have a few favorites that I usually go to. Earrings and my watch daily.  If I am dressing up a bit, I might wear a necklace and a bracelet.  I don't wear scarves often (too hot) and really don't give it too much thought.

2) Dinah Shore sings that she doesn't want to live where the cactus hurts her toes. Sam can sympathize, as she has a blister on one of her toes from where her winter boots rub. Do you have any aches and pains to report this morning?  Oh, please don't get me started.  Just read a couple of my older posts...

3) Dinah was such a popular entertainer that people were surprised to learn she earned a degree in sociology from Vanderbilt University. What is something we'd be surprised to know about you?  Well, some of my longer-time blogging friends know, but I graduated from Warner University, Magna Cum Laude, at age 50.  My degree is in Organizational Management with a finance concentration.  It was my 50th birthday present to myself and I was so blessed to have Joe's support through all the night and weekend classes and all the studying and homework. Warner University is a Christian university and I was asked to give the Call To Worship at the graduation ceremony.

4) Dinah was the best selling version of this song, which was introduced by Bob Hope in the movie The Paleface. Hope had success early in his career as a song-and-dance man on Broadway. Are you better at telling jokes, singing or dancing?  I am a terrible joke-teller.  I always blow it in some way so I don't even try anymore.  At 68 years old with bad knees, I don't dance anymore but used to love it. I've had lessons in tap, ballet, modern jazz (all when I was a youngster) and later in life, I took lessons in clogging (loved it) and Joe and I took ballroom style dancing lessons together when we were dating.  I do enjoy singing but don't do it much anymore.  When my thyroid was removed, my voice box was messed up for about three months and, though it got better, I don't sing as well as I used to.  My range is very limited now. Perhaps I could sing bass with the guys! I'm no longer an alto or baritone.

5) Both Bob and Dinah donated their time to entertain the troops in WWII. It was during a USO tour that Dinah met and fell in love with actor George Montgomery, who was serving in the Air Force. They were married for 20 years and had two children. Their daughter followed her parents into show business and became an actress. If a young person asked you for career advice, what would you tell them?  Find something you love and have a passion for.  If you can do that you will be much happier. Don't let any job steal your joy!!

6) Dinah was an avid golfer and even sponsored an LPGA tournament. She was also an excellent cook who hosted TV cooking segments. Which would you find more relaxing -- an afternoon on the golf course or in the kitchen?  I haven't played golf in over 35 years (I was not very good) but being on the course is usually a great way to spend  3-5 hours. I would go if I could just drive the golf cart now!  I enjoy cooking for special occasions but get weary trying to cook for just the two of us.

7) In 1948, the year this record was a hit, Scrabble was introduced. Do you prefer word games, card games, board games or jigsaw puzzles?  I am just not an avid game player. I enjoy it now and then for short periods of time because I enjoy the people I am playing with. I do have a word game on my Kindle that I play once a day and I play solitaire on my phone sometimes.

8) Also in 1948, LPs (33 1/3 rpm records) were introduced. Do you have any vinyl records in your home?  I have two albums tucked away in the closet.  One is a record of our marching band when I was a sophomore and the other is a gospel record that my uncle sings in.  I haven't had a record player in over 35 years.

9) Random question -- Which of these would you consider the greatest insult: to be called boring, untrustworthy or stupid?  To be untrustworthy.  Please don't insult my integrity.  I'm sure I am boring to many - it is what it is.  I know I'm not stupid so I would consider the person making the accusation as more stupid than me.

Happy Saturday!!  Thanks for peeking in today!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Friday Photos...

Friday got here faster than Thursday did!!  How does that happen?

It is time to post some photos from my week, continuing the tradition started by Debbie with her Friday Fotos.

Doctor appointments, haircuts, and Bible study went by without any pictures to document them, but we did go to the farm (Joe's client) on Wednesday.  It may get old for you to see these photos each week, but it does not get old for me.  It is always good for my soul...

Pistol is always first in line for carrots!  He whinnies
when he sees me walking toward the pasture.

Doc is never far behind Pistol and he whinnies too!

Vanna in front and Majesty behind.  They both got carrots too
but their pasture is farther away and harder to get close to them unless
I walk farther and go past all those goats who want carrots too.
I opted to reach over the barbed wire fence this week.

The guinea hens were LOUD and running fast.  Silly things.

We saw NO cattle this trip, either on the way in or on the way out.

Back at home, Vinny found the sunshine and was quite comfortable in the window.

Lucy decided my legs made a good bed while we watched TV.

And... I posted this on Facebook but wanted to share it here
because I thought it was funny and so true!
Our next potluck is on March 8th.

Thanks for your visit today!!  Happy Friday!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!
