Sunday Stealing...

Thanks to Bev for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Halloween

 Stolen from madame writer blog

1. Have you ever played with an Ouija Board?  I remember there was one at a slumber party when I was in school but I hold that they can be evil and have never had one in my home.

2. Favorite horror monster or villain?  Dracula. I thought vampires were real when I was a youngster.

3. If you were dared to spend the night in a “haunted house”, would you do it?  I could do it but it is not something I want to do.

4. Are you superstitious?  No.

5. Do you ever see figures in your peripheral vision?  Nope. Only floaters!

6. Ever made a potion of any sort?  No!!

7. Do you get scared easily?  No.

8. Have you ever played Bloody Mary?  I don't even know what that is.

9. Would you ever go to a graveyard at night?  I have, more than once.

10. Would you rather go to a Halloween party or go trick or treating?  Neither at my age!!

11. Whilst watching scary movies, are you the person who yells at the characters, the person with their eyes covered the whole time, or the person who falls asleep  I have been known to yell at a character on TV that they are stupid, so that would be me, I guess.

12. Favorite scary book?  I don't care for scary books. I read quite a few Stephen King books and Dean Koontz books but gave them up long ago.

13. How old were you when you saw your first horror movie?  I was five or six when I saw "Old Yeller" and it was a horror movie for me.

14. What was your first Halloween costume?  My first one was probably  65 years ago. I have no idea.

15. If you could have a spooky Halloween pet (black cat, owl, bat, rat, wolf), what would you pick?  I have had an all-black cat (Inky) and loved her to pieces.

Peace & hugs!!

Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can be a 9er HERE.

Werewolves of London

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Werewolves of London (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Warren Zevon sees a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand. He wanted beef chow mein. If we Saturday 9ers got together for Chinese, what would you likely order?  Szechuan Shrimp or Kung Po Chicken.

2) He also says the werewolf's hair was perfect. Are you having a good hair day?  I never have a good hair day. Never.

3) Linda Ronstadt was a big Warren Zevon fan and recorded several of his songs. Do you have a favorite Linda Ronstadt song?  She had an amazing voice and I always liked Blue Bayou, You're No Good, It's So Easy...

4) Warren Zevon admitted being afraid of doctors and avoided checkups. Are you scared when you go to the doctor or dentist for a routine visit?  I am not afraid and actually like my doctors and dentist.

5) In 1935, the movie Werewolf of London was released. Do you enjoy being frightened by scary movies?  I laugh more than I am frightened at most of them but there is that adrenalin high you get from roller coasters and monsters behind the door I guess.  I don't seek them out.

6) In your younger days, did you ever trick or treat while dressed as a monster?  No, I don't think I was ever a monster.

7) When you were a kid, what sweet treats were you happiest to receive?  One neighbor always gave out homemade popcorn balls that were delicious and, of course, anything chocolate.

8) Can you see any Halloween decorations as you answer these 9 questions?  Yes, a ghost figure, a black cat figure, and a pumpkin face figure.

9) Halloween is most popular in the United States and Canada and isn't really celebrated at all in Japan or South Korea. How would you explain our Halloween customs to a visitor from another land?   A chance for little kids to play dress-up and score candy from other people.  I personally think the Trunk & Treat events are the best thing ever for kids these days.

Peace &  Hugs!
God is SO good!

Friday Foto Time...

I seem to say it every week, but Fridays roll around SO fast these days!
Some new photos from this week follow...

A beautiful blue sky one morning this week.

The gator guy was back and he already had this one in
his tailor.  Still didn't get the one from our lake that was reported
but I got to see this big boy!!

Another one of our lakes.

This Florida Softshell was wandering toward the road
but found his way back to safety.

My car got washed in this storm yesterday morning.

Tonight there is a gathering of coworkers at the brewery like we did a couple of weeks ago. It was fun so I am looking forward to it again.  My boss asked me yesterday if I was planning to go because Mrs. Boss will only go if I'm going.  Made me chuckle. She is so fun.  Saturday evening, Mr. & Mrs. Boss and Monika are coming to dinner, finally! We had to postpone it two weeks ago because Mr. Boss was sick with a cold.

I got my Moderna booster vaccine on Wednesday.  No side effects other than a sore arm for a few hours, just like the flu shot, pneumonia, and tetanus shots last week. My immune system had better be bolstered enough to keep me healthy this winter!  Vaccines are my choice.  I've gotten them my entire life.  I respect all to make their own choices and do not support mandates.  We all need to do what is right for ourselves and our families.

Peace & hugs!
God bless!!

Whimsical Fashion Fun 2021...

There aren't any rules and there isn't a linky.
Check out the dress and pick the shoes you like the best.
It is always in fun and just a whimsical thing.
Photos are always from The Storybook of Dreams & Beauty.

Well, I fell in love with the color first and then the elegance of the gown just blew me away.  Count down from the top on the shoes, `1-2-3, and tell us which you like best for the dress.

My Thoughts:  I think the dress is just beautiful and so classy. As for the shoes, of course, I couldn't wear any of them, but I like pair #2 best.  I don't need a platform shoe (#1) but I do like pair #3 too.  What are your thoughts?  I would wear this dress if I had someplace to wear it, if it came in my size, and could afford it... LOL!  If, if, if!   Happy Thursday!

Question:  Does anyone use a Chromebook?  I need a new computer and I have been told to check out the Chromebook since most of what I do is in the cloud anyway.  They are a lot less expensive. Not sure I can make the switch but maybe some of you have been successful??  Help??

The Wednesday Hodgepodge!

Thanks to our Hodgepodge Hostess, Joyce!! You can be a Hodgepodger here!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 439

From this Side of the Pond

1. Is Halloween a big deal in your neighborhood?  No. Was it something you celebrated as a child?  Yes.  With your own children?  No... they were 16 and 20 when I "got" them!  Do you like candy corn?  I don't buy it but I'll grab some if someone else has them in a dish.

2. Are you a scaredy-cat?  No.  About what?  There are times when I feel fearful but not often and I can't say I am a scaredy-cat.

3. Last time you were somewhere that should have been busy but felt like a 'ghost town'?  It's been a while here in Florida since we have been "open" for quite some time now but it was weird when restaurants opened at 25% capacity and we would be only one of two or three couples having a meal.  Last year...

4. Do you like chili and if so how do you like it?  Yes!  Beans or no beans?  Beans! Meat or no meat?  Meat!  Beef or chicken?  Beef!  Spice or no spice?  Spicey is good!  Favorite toppings?  Cheddar cheese, sour cream, Frito chips...one or all (or none at all)!

5. Would you describe yourself as a night owl?  Not anymore!  What time of night qualifies?  LOL... I go to bed at 9:00 since I am working again.  I feel like a night owl if I stay up past 10:00 on a Friday What are you doing while everyone else is asleep? I am asleep before anyone else! LOL  Do you then 'sleep in'? Define 'sleeping in'.  Sleeping in is 7:30 or 8:00 these days.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I am so excited that two of my nieces are coming for a visit soon!  Joe's older brother, Lou, has two sons and two daughters.  One son is married to Peggy and he and Peggy have three daughters. Their oldest is Jackie and Peggy and Jackie are coming on Friday the 12th and will leave late on Sunday.  We will have great fun and are driving down to Punta Gorda on that Saturday to have lunch with Lauren & Tristan!!  They haven't seen each other for years.

Jackie, Lexie, and Nikki

Peggy and Jackie the last time they were here (2016)
Yes... we were over Disney way...

Joe and nephew Lou (Peg's hubby & Jackie's dad).

I am blessed so richly by such a wonderful family.

Peace & hugs!
God is so good!

A Tuesday Throwback Post...

Annie hasn't posted a Tuesday 4 yet so I slipped back to this time in 2012 and found such a wonderful memory to share with you.  The  Kathy mentioned is my former daughter-in-law and mother of grandchildren, Lauren & Tristan.  I haven't changed anything in the post but this was such a fun thing that I  did for Joe...

Amazing and Wonderful...

Back when Kathy and I were planning Joe's 75th birthday weekend, we were searching for an Italian Creme Cake recipe, like Joe remembers (his favorite) from years ago.  All we could find were recipes using cream cheese icing and nothing that Joe told me he remembered from the special occasions of his younger years.  Kathy even called a couple of upscale Italian restaurants, in Naples, FL, describing the cake to them.  We got nowhere.

A few days ago, I decided to ask one of the chefs that I have been following on Google+ if he could help.  I really didn't expect an answer, but thought it was worth a try.  Chef Dennis responded, by e-mail, right away.  He told me that he couldn't help, but he knew someone who could.  He forwarded my question to Grace Langlois, who is an Italian pastry chef, and she and I have been e-mailing for a couple of days about this cake.

Talk about a small world.... her family is from the same Region in Italy as Joe's family.  She knew exactly what kind of cake I was asking about.  Grace lives in Ontario, Canada, now.  She CALLED me this morning!!!  We talked for 30 minutes or so and she gave me the recipes I need for the cake and fillings and told me some hints to use, etc., etc.  She gave me the recipe using grams, so I need to convert it, but I hope I have time next weekend to give this a try and see if it gets close to what Joe remembers.  I need to find a certain kind of vanilla flavoring and may have to go to Mazzaro's Italian Market, over in St. Pete, to find it.  She told me it will make a huge difference in the flavor, so I want to make sure I have what I need before getting started.  Yes, I will share it with you and will have photos!  The cake above is sort of like Joe described the cake to me, with nuts on the sides, but I'll have a photo of my creation, once I get it all together!

I am just blown away that these two very busy people took an interest in my question and gave me their time (and phone minutes) to help me with this!  I am so appreciative and humbled.  Wow.

I love the contacts and friends I've made through blogging - first with Yahoo360, then Multiply, and now Blogger and Google+.  You are all awesome and amazing people!!

Here is Grace's website:  http://gracessweetlife.com/about/

Thanks for checking in!  Peace, love & hugs!
------------------------------------------------------------------------

So... yes, I did make the cake and more than once.  Here are pictures of the first one I did for him in November 2012.  He would not have told me it wasn't what he remembered. He said it was perfect and he loved it.  Oh, how I wish I could make him another one!!

Peace & hugs!
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!

Monday's Weekend Recap...

Friday afternoon I had my 4-month check-up with my primary doctor.  She was happy with my bloodwork and stressed that those of us who got the Moderna vaccinations need to wait for the Moderna booster and she hopes it is coming soon.  Speaking of vaccinations, I was past due for a pneumonia booster and a tetanus booster. so her nurse came in and stuck me on both arms.  The tetanus arm is still sore, three days later, but I am happy to be up-to-date with both shots.

On Saturday, Mrs. Boss picked me up at 9:45 and we were off to the Lake Wales Pioneer Days Festival. We chatted the entire ride and it was fun getting to know her better.  I will continue to call her Mrs. Boss for social media reasons - her choice and I respect it.  Our mutual friend, Monika, can be named now (was Vol-M) and you will see her artwork below!

There was a great crowd and there were around 50 artists and
a half-dozen pioneer demonstration areas.

My new friend, Monika, does the Rosemaling painting.  Her booth was nicely busy!

Mrs. Boss was interested in the pine needle baskets and she purchased one.
That is her standing there. (She said I could post this photo.)

There was a classic car show.

Lots of food options...

The lovely Lake Wales, for which the town is named.

We could hear the high school band playing when we arrived.

We passed this house on the way back to the car and I just had to take a picture.
Isn't it so pretty! I love the front porch and even the yellow color!

This was my one purchase, from Monika.  I really like it!!

We stopped at Miller's Ale House on the way home for some lunch.  I had a Philly cheesesteak and brought half of it home to have for my dinner. Yummy.

Yesterday was Sunday school and church. I did some laundry and cooked some smoked sausage, cabbage, onions, and bell peppers for a yummy meal and enough for another today!  I will see Helen after work and have prescriptions to pick up at Publix before getting home.  I am getting the shed work done on Tuesday afternoon and am excited to get that rearranged and settled!

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves us, this I know!!

Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Bang!

We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Bang! (2020)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here(Just for the record, I have never heard of this group or this song.)

1) This song is about a young man who is living on his own and doing adult things, like getting his own apartment, eating better, and doing his own taxes, but he doesn't yet feel grown-up. Do you remember when you felt like a grown-up?  I was 29 years old and on my own for the first time in my life.  Just separated after 10 years of marriage, I had my own car for the first time, my own apartment for the first time, and was responsible for myself for the first time. That was it.

2) He mentions not being sure of his login password. Is this something you struggle with? Or are you able to zip into your accounts?  I can zip right into my accounts. I do use Last Pass to keep track of my passwords.

3) Both the video and CD cover show the band playing games of chance. What's the last game that you played?  Solitaire on the computer.

4) This week's featured band, AJR, is named for the three brothers who make up the trio -- Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met. Until recently, all three brothers lived at home and wrote songs together in the Met family living room. Do you have siblings?  Yes. If so, what's something you enjoy doing together?  My brother died of cancer in August 2003.  My two sisters and I have lived far apart for many years. We have fun when we are together, but I haven't been with both sisters at the same time for too many years. We are working on that!

5) The oldest Met brother, Adam, now lives with his girlfriend in an apartment near Columbia University, where he is a Ph.D. candidate. During the school year, he only works on his music on weekends. Next summer, in 2022, he should be done with his studies and plans on touring the country with the band. Some tour dates are already scheduled. If possible, do you like to make plans far in advance?  It depends. Long-distant travel usually requires making plans farther in advance. Or do you prefer spontaneity?   Since I don't travel long-distance anymore, spontaneity works for me most of the time.

6) Jack and Ryan also attend Columbia and share an apartment with their dog. They like to unwind on Fridays, after a week of classes, with a game of air hockey, followed by sushi or sashimi at their favorite Japanese restaurant. What did you do on Friday night?  My friends, Al and Theresa, stopped by and stayed for a nice visit.  It was nice catching up with them. I watched some TV when they left.

7) In 2020, the year this song was popular, the most-streamed TV show was The Office. The show went off the air in 2013, but during the pandemic and quarantine, it found a new audience. What series have you binged on recently?  Lark Rise to Candleford on Britbox.

8) According to Amazon, the best-selling novel of 2020 was Where the Crawdads Sing. Is there a novel you'd like to recommend to Sat 9ers?  Not really. I've been reading Cozy  Mysteries and they are fun and easy but usually not worth recommending.  I have read 14 of the Apple Orchard Mysteries by Chelsea Thomas.  They have been pretty good.  I got the first 10 for free and have enjoyed them enough to buy four more.

9) Random question: Your local drug store has a self-checkout. You confess to your best friend that you absent-mindedly missed scanning an item, walked out of the store with it, set off security, and were caught unintentionally shoplifting. The store manager believed you so there were no repercussions, but you were mortified nevertheless. Would you expect your best friend to share your embarrassing story with his/her spouse?  Most likely and it would be okay.  I  would talk about it myself, anyway.

Peace & hugs!
God is in control!! Trust Him!
