1) In this song, the Billy Grammer sings that "summer's almost gone, winter's coming on." When you look out your window, do you see any evidence that the seasons are changing? Not here in Florida just yet.
2) He admits he has laid around and played around for too long. Do you consider lazy days to be wasted days? Lazy days are NEVER wasted!!
3) Billy relaxed by fishing. Tell us about a visit you made to a pier or a ride you took on a boat, this past year. (Bonus points if you went fishing!) So sorry, but I do not enjoy fishing at all. I DO love being out on the water though. It has been too many years since I enjoyed a boat ride.
4) Born in 1925, Mr. Grammer was the eldest of 13 children. He and his wife Ruth were childless. What do you think is the ideal size for a family? The ideal size depends on the circumstances of the moms & dads. What is ideal for me may not be for someone else.
5) This song was very popular on jukeboxes back in 1959. When were you last in a bar or restaurant that had a jukebox? Did you play it? I really don't remember being in an establishment recently that had a jukebox. I have played many songs on a jukebox in my day, though.
6) In 1959, movie tickets zoomed up in price to $1.00 and Ben Hur was the big blockbuster. What's the last movie you saw in a theater? Do you remember how much the ticket cost? I can't remember what we saw last and neither can Joe. We don't go to the movies very often but when we do go... it is the matinee pricing for seniors, so less than $7.00 per ticket. If I cruise back through my archives here, I can probably find it since I'm sure I mentioned it in a blog.
7) Huckleberry Hound was a hit with the younger audience in 1959. What cartoon did you enjoy as a kid? Yogi Bear was good; Mighty Mouse was good; Road Runner was always funny.... and I also liked Huckleberry Hound!!
8) In 1959, continuing dramas (soap operas) were still broadcast each day on the radio. When you turn on the radio, do you listen for talk, news, or music? The only radio we listen to is in the car and we have SiriusXM radio without commercials. We listen to oldies from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
9) Random question -- Which competition would you rather judge: The Pillsbury Bake-Off, The Miss America Pageant, or Dancing with the Stars? Definitely the Pillsbury Bake-off!! LOL

We can still find places with jukeboxes but they are getting harder to find. I'm seeing a lot of them turn up at auctions and estate sales. I saw one a couple of years ago that I'd have loved to have, but didn't have room for it. It was in a wood cabinet just like an old stereo. I'd never seen one like it. I enjoyed your answers this week. Have a wonderful day...it's a soggy one here.

I only know of one place in town that has a jukebox and it is always fun to play it when we go there. The last boat ride I made was many, many years ago....not big on that activity...rather stay on shore and enjoy the scenery. I remember when I was a teenagers, the price to go to the movies was 25 cents and me and a group of friends would walk on Sat. to see whatever was on that day. Liked the questions and your answers this week. Happy Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWe are cheap and try to only go the movies on Thrifty Tuesdays. We just went this week and saw The Meg. 2 tickets, med popcorn, and med soda for $20. :)

You named all the cartoons we liked that I couldn't think of. I remember that little mole that used to run around saying, "what happened? What happened?" We thought that was so funny.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't SiriusXM, but pay Amazon (I think) $7.99/mo. for Alexa's "unlimited jukebox" -- much the same play list as yours. I used to love Yogi Bear!
ReplyDeleteThe Texas Roadhouse has a jukebox but I'm not really sure it's for use. Maybe just for show. I did glance at the available tunes one time and didn't recognize a single one. (I am sooo behind the times!)
