We had a rather lazy and laid-back weekend (the entire week, actually!). On Friday we did some grocery shopping at Walmart, and (spreading out the work!) we went to Harvey's for a few more things on Saturday. I also got the laundry done on Saturday. Joe was feeling a bit punky on Saturday, so we did not make it to our usual 4:00 Vigil Mass. On Sunday, he didn't even get out of bed until nearly noon. He is feeling much better today! One of those things.
Our #2 son, Jeff, called us Sunday evening!! We hadn't talked with him for a couple of months. We do text and see him on Facebook, but there is nothing like hearing his voice!! We also got to talk with #1 son, Joey, who called from Kuwait. He and his dad were talking accounting shop talk, which always makes Joe feel good. Joey is a CPA, too, as well as having several other initials he can put after his name. He and Joe share accounting business software, which makes it more economical for them both (especially us!).
Monday was our Labor Day Potluck at the Clubhouse. They are always fun and there is always so much food!! Al and Theresa went up there Sunday afternoon and saved us a table for 8. Helen and Cheryl came with us and there was another couple besides Al & Theresa for our table. It was well attended with right at 100 people! I took my usual Jiffy Corn Casserole. It is good and is always GONE! LOL

Our son, Jeff, was married to a woman who had two girls. The girls were 9 and 11 when Jeff became their step-dad. He saw them through high school and college. Both girls graduated from the University of Virginia. We loved those girls and were so very sad when the marriage broke apart badly and we lost touch with our step-grandgirls. They are both married with children now and we are SO HAPPY and tickled that Jeff has reconnected with them. #2 still lives in Virginia with her hubby and Jeff gets to see her and her daughter more often than #1 who lives in Oakland, CA, with her hubby and three kids. We still haven't had any communication with them, but Jeff said #2 does ask about us. That feels so good!! Maybe someday... Jeff shared this picture with us.

Glad to hear Joe is feeling better. Also happy you had a good time at the pot luck and looks like lots of good food for sure. It is sometimes hard to keep in touch especially if not living close by, but as you said, maybe someday. Happy Tuesday.

Looks like your Labor Day lunch was a huge success! We stayed indoors and had meatloaf as it rained all day. But that was okay with us. Love that your son Jeff has reconnected with his "girls" and families. Praying you will be able to do the same some day. Have a blessed and wonderful week...I know you feel better being able to talk to family, esp. when they are so far away. Makes a big difference!!

The recipe is everywhere, Mari, but it is so easy! One can of corn, drained; one can of creamed corn (not drained); one cup of sour cream; one stick of softened butter; one egg; one box of Jiffy Cornbread Mix. Throw it all together in a bowl and stir is until combined. Pour it is a greased 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350° for 55-60 minutes.
