Rings
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks, we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
8) Also in 1971, Mattel introduced Malibu Barbie, the doll with a tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed? I have not. I burn in about 10 minutes. I don't tan.
Saturday 9: Rings (1971)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song is about a young man who is happy to hear his phone ring. How about you? How do you feel when your phone rings? (Excited, annoyed, surprised, etc.) My family knows I am not a phone talker. It is never a bother, but I am usually surprised when my phone rings.
2) He's got James Taylor on the stereo. Are you a James Taylor fan? Yes. Always have been.
3) He tells his girl he's been hanging with his buddies, Tony and Mario, but they're no substitute for her. What friend did you recently spend time with? What did you do? I walked with Susan and Sandy this morning.
4) Tony and Mario were real people. They ran a restaurant frequented by the songwriters. Did you dine out this past week? I dine out with friends every Thursday evening. Yes. We ate at Saigon Bistro this week.
5) "Rings" is the only hit for the band Cymarron, who hailed from Memphis, a town known for classic southern comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, cornbread, and mashed potatoes. What's on the menu at your home this weekend? I ordered from China Wok last night, and have leftover Kung Pao Chicken for tonight.
6) The boys in Cymarron took their name from their favorite TV show, the Western Cimarron Strip. What TV show are you currently enjoying? Maybe your fellow Sat9ers would like it, too. I'm watching the 2nd season of Poker Face on Peacock. It's been out for a while, and I'm just getting to it. It's a fun series about a woman who has a photographic memory. She is on the run from casino owners who want her dead, and she solves murders while she is on the run.
7) In 1971, when this song was popular, the US Mint introduced the Eisenhower Silver Dollar. Is there any change in your wallet or pocket right now? There is always some loose change in my purse. Save your pennies!!
8) Also in 1971, Mattel introduced Malibu Barbie, the doll with a tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed? I have not. I burn in about 10 minutes. I don't tan.
9) Random question – If we were to ask your friends, which of these qualities would they say they like best about you: your warmth, your sense of humor, or your intelligence? Ha! I haven't a clue. I am just me. I try to be kind, but sometimes fail. I love to laugh. I think I am somewhat intelligent (BA degree, Magna Cum Laude), but I also think common sense is usually more important in life than book smarts.
Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain.
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end.
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend,
but I always thought that I'd see you again.
Fire and Rain/James Taylor

I am not a phone talker either. I much prefer texting. I dread my phone ringing, unless it's my dad! I will talk to him for hours.
ReplyDeleteYum to the Kung Pao Chicken!
For the last question I would say you are warm, kind, welcoming and just an all round good person.
I've never heard that song! I'm not much of a phone talker. I used to be, but now I usually text.
ReplyDeleteI love that you go out with your group weekly. Such a fun tradition!
I think you are kind, caring and a welcoming person, easy to talk to, and I do appreciate your common sense!
I love James Taylor. I'm not a fan of talking on the phone, but I hate texting even more. lol
ReplyDeleteI was a huge fan of James Taylor growing up and learned to play most of his hits on my guitar. Great memories! I don't care to talk on the phone unless it's FaceTime. Have a great weekend, Terri!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think you're a delicious medley of all those qualities. Not a big fan of phone chats, either -- unless it's my son or my Florida bestie. We've a years-long appointment of calling the first day of each month, but even that grows old after the first hour.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder about our pennies.
I like you just as you are and always have since we first became acquainted years ago via our blogs. As for a college degree, that's wonderful but as you said, common sense is usually more important in life than book smarts.
ReplyDeleteI burn too - I am not a sun worshipper either. I am not a phone talker either Terri. I get it. And I watched Poker Face too - so so .
ReplyDeleteJames Taylor - I didn't read that chorus, I sang it. :) I was today years old when I learned Malibu Barbie had a tan! I don't think I ever had her. I Was born and raised in San Diego and for a few years we lived in a house with a below ground pool. I didn't need a tanning bed! Nowadays I just burn.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a phone talker either, smiles. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI am not a big phone talker, but occasionally I will call a friend to let them know I am thinking of them, especially if they don't have internet access.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I tend to burn very easily in the sun. I make sure not to spend much time in the sun because of the risk of heat stroke as well, especially in our very hot and humid summers...and wildfires in Montreal.
