Thank You Girl
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions; however, here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: Thank You Girl (1964)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Who were you talking to the last time you said, "thank you?" All of my Thanksgiving guests who brought delicious sides for dinner.
2) Paul McCartney recalls that "Thank You Girl" was inspired by all the female fans who had written them fan letters, pledging undying love. Have you ever written a fan letter? If yes, did you receive a response? A very, very long time ago, young girls could write to their favorite movie stars and request an autographed photo. My mom did it and gave me her collection, so I wrote a few of those letters and got photos back in the mail. The only one I remember is Shelley Fabares. I gave my mom's collection and my photos to my niece, Sara. Mom's really were signed by the stars. All of mine were printed signatures.
3) Recording engineer Geoff Emerick remembered that John Lennon was easily winded while recording this song. John had a bad cold and went back to bed when they were done for the day. We're in cold/flu season right now. How are you feeling? I feel fine. Colds are going around, though.
4) "Thank You Girl" is this week's song because November 27 was Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for this year? Everything. I am beyond blessed.
5) While the big meal is referred to as Thanksgiving dinner, most Americans enjoy it earlier than they usually serve dinner. 3:00 PM is the most popular time for the holiday feast. When did you have dinner on Thursday? Everyone came at 2:00, and we ate close to 3:00. Worked for us!
6) Cranberry sauce has been a Thanksgiving staple since the late 1800s. Was it on your menu this year? It sure was. My neighbor/friend, Dee, brought cranberries. Yum!
7) The Thanksgiving Turducken is said to have originated in New Orleans. Chef Paul Prudhomme is often cited as the first to stuff a deboned chicken into a deboned duck into a deboned turkey. Prudhomme's recipe has more than 85 individual steps and takes a full day to prepare. Did you face any challenges while cooking your Thursday dinner? No. It all went quite well.
8) Leftovers are popular after Thanksgiving, especially turkey sandwiches. Some cooks recommend serving cold, sliced turkey on wheat bread, but white bread, pitas, and flatbread are also popular. When you head into the kitchen to make a sandwich, what's your go-to bread? Yesterday I used some leftover rolls for a sandwich.
9) The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday, the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season and sales. Black Friday got its name in Philadelphia back in the 1950s to describe the traffic clogging both highways and side streets as consumers raced out in search of bargains. When was the last time you were stuck in traffic? Fortunately, it has been a very long time. I do my best to avoid rush hour times and interstates.

I am so glad to know your Thanksgiving went well. And I don't drive the interstate, however, I do drive 441/301 to work every day and the traffic, yikes, rolling eyes. Wishing you a lovely day, Terri.
ReplyDeleteYour collection sounds interesting. Yeah, celebs have a staff member handle fan mail now
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. I stay off the busy roads too. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

I remember writing and getting photos signed; mine are long gone. I stay home on BF--it has no appeal for me! Glad you had a nice day.
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool about your moms signatures and so nice of you to pass them to your niece.
ReplyDeleteWe have Thanksgiving dinner around 1pm and always have, then leftover turkey buns for supper!
I am so glad that your Thanksgiving came out so nice. I did not know anything about that Beatle song. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe try our best to avoid rush hour anything, Terri. I loved hearing about your mother's collection that you've now passed on to your niece. That's so special! Glad you had such a Happy Thanksgiving, too. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteYep. Back when I was still working full-time, I so wished retirees would stay off the streets and out of the grocery stores during normal commuting hours. I've only written two "fan" letters to authors (as an adult) -- and was surprised and pleased to get sincere replies from both. Shelley Fabares once came to the station and was so down to earth and sweet.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm always so glad you are surrounded by good friends and family. What a nice collection your mom had with those autographed photos! Any I ever had were like yours...printed. Now I hear some famous people want folks to pay for an autograph. Wow. I hope you're having a lovely holiday weekend, Terri!
ReplyDeleteWe made reservations to eat out, arriving at 11am because for health/medical reasons, we need to eat at that time of day (every day, not just on Thanksgiving). Aging and health challenges put requirements on people and we do the best we can to accommodate that, thankful all the while that we are still alive and able to enjoy God's blessings.
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate Thanksgiving in NZ and I always thought it was celebrated over the weekend and Black Friday was the day before :) You live and learn. It sounds like you had a great day.
