November 14th: Friday's Focus

Today is a waiting game again.  The repairman for my refrigerator will be here between 8:00 and 5:00. Last time, he came around 1:30.  The part arrived yesterday, so let's get it done!!

I ordered my turkey for Thanksgiving after hearing on a news broadcast that there is a projected shortage of turkeys this year and they won't be "on sale" like in previous years.  Last year, I paid 49 cents a pound at Publix.  I went ahead and placed a delivery order with Kroger for a Butterball turkey, between 16 and 20 pounds, for 99 cents a pound.  Since I now have nine people coming for Thanksgiving dinner, I don't want to be left without a turkey!!  Of course, I think it's the leftovers that are the best part of Thanksgiving dinner, so I want plenty of turkey.  I also ordered a turkey breast that I will roast along with the big turkey.  Those turkey sandwiches are already calling me! The groceries will arrive on Monday, giving the fridge time to maintain proper temperatures for safe food storage. I hope!

On Saturday, I will be able to park the car back in my carport!  It's been 'living' across the street at Anne and Paul's house.  The paint is nice and dry.  I've been walking on it since Tuesday.

Sunday is my former boss's birthday (Danon), and I've been invited to help him celebrate at Grillsmith with him and his family.  It will be fun seeing Danon and Mali, and I know his sister and nephew, and the kids who usually join in on family things.  Mali's daughter and son-in-law, and their two kids, are living near now, so I'm looking forward to seeing them again and meeting the newest member of their family.  It will be fun.  That's after church.

Last night, the Mas Verde group (just three of us!) went to Saigon Bistro for dinner.  I had delicious teriyaki shrimp.  It was a nice visit with Tim and Judy.  The rest of our usual dining friends were either traveling or had health issues.  Speaking of health issues, I brought Anne and Paul back from Moffitt on Wednesday.  They go back next month, and then hopefully he will get the marrow transplant in January. Keep them on your prayer list if you will.

Peace and Hugs!

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

  1. I know you are going to love the new paint on the carport. It is the little things:) I need to get a move on and start making a grocery list for Thanksgiving. My guest list is still changing, but really the menu doesn't and the leftovers are always good. I am not a turkey fan. Never have been, but what is Thanksgiving without a turkey?

It'll be nice to be able to park in your own driveway again.

  4. Even tho' we're going turkey-less, I agree. Leftovers are the best part of the holiday! Daon birthday dinner sounds like such fun. When friends gather (I think) the food always seems to taste better. Still praying for Anne and Paul!

  5. I hope your refrigerator has been fixed and good job with ordering your turkey, with the threat of the shortage I would have done the same too.
Have a lovely time of Thursday celebrating your former boss's birthday.

  7. Yikes! I hadn't heard about a turkey shortage. Dick's employer usually gives us one, so I'm counting on that. Although the place did change hands. Hopefully someone told the new owner about this tradition, hahaha!
