The Christmas Blues
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: The Christmas Blues (1953)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Dean Martin sings that the streets are white with snow. Do you anticipate a White Christmas this year? Absolutely not!!
2) He tells us he's done plenty of window shopping this season. Do you find you're influenced by a retailer's window dressing and store decor? Are you more motivated by price? Or do you do most of your shopping online, making holiday decorations irrelevant? I haven't stepped into a store this year. All of my shopping has been done online.
3) Dean was born in Steubenville, OH. Though he rarely returned to his hometown, it was in his thoughts during the holidays. Every Christmas he made like Santa and sent toys to hospitalized children in the Steubenville area. Are there toys on your shopping list this year? No. There are no little ones except for great-nieces and nephews who I rarely see and don't do gifts for. The exception is my pen pal and gr-gr-niece Maya. I have been giving her a subscription to Hi-Lights magazine. Her mom says she loves it. We decided to go up to the next age level for her this year.
4) He had fast hands when it came to cards and before he was famous he worked as a dealer in Atlantic City. When you play cards, what's your favorite game? I am not an enthusiastic game player. I will play if everyone wants to play but I really am not that competitive.
5) Dean Martin was an avid reader ... of comic books. Especially in bed when he was on the road and couldn't sleep. Much as he enjoyed comic books, he was embarrassed by them. What do you do when you can't sleep? I rarely have trouble sleeping. I get up and move to the recliner with a book.
Now let's have a few holiday-specific questions:
6) Every year, the United States Postal Service introduces special holiday stamps. Do you purchase them? No. I prefer the American Flag forever stamps.
7) Do you have a funny/ugly holiday sweater? I have a pretty colorful sweater vest that has bells on it. It is hanging in my closet but I haven't worn it since I retired from the Museum.
8) Do you wrap your presents or use gift bags? Gift bags!!
9) We're doing Christmas karaoke! What holiday or winter-themed song will you perform? Winter Wonderland, Silent Night... but it would clear out the room, trust me!!
Peace and Hugs!
Have a blessed weekend!
The SON is shining!

This was fun, I may have to join in. Loved the idea of the Highlights magazine. I just went and ordered my grandson a subscription. Thanks for the idea. Hope you have a great day Terri!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy warm here, high of 50 today! So I don't think we'll have a white Christmas either.
ReplyDeleteI tend to wrap most of my gifts, have a few more to do today.
I read when I can't sleep too, but that doesn't happen too often.
Gift bags may be the best invention ever! Excepting Publix, I normally do all my shopping online and will pick up or have stuff delivered. When our old coffee maker died the other day -- and Tom's sis was due to arrive that afternoon -- we went inside WM. Unfortunately, in less than an hour's time, my mood plummeted like a rock. I think Tom's finally begun to understand why I love Amazon Prime. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'll take a gift bag over everything else, Terri. They are especially great for those hard-to-wrap presents.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!

ReplyDeleteBeing competitive makes playing games more interesting but like you, I'm not very competitive and when I am, it's very short-lived. I like to play Sudoku by myself and that's enough.
ReplyDeleteI am a gift bag person too. It takes so long to wrap presents. I shop online too. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. ♥

Someone used to give me Highlights when I was a little girl and I loved it. My mom used to give it to our oldest granddaughter, but since we aren't allowed to see them... I don't know if she will gift it to Colt and Leah. Colt is not much interested in books and I guess time will tell with Leah.
