Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 627
2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh? Never heard of it. I Googled it, and I still don't know what it means. Nonsense is what it means.
Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out its meaning because apparently, I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning, driven by social media.
What do you think?
Dictionary. com says its selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.
What word do you think would have made a better choice? No clue.
3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so? Pumpkin spice. I'm just not into it at all. I love my mom's recipe for pumpkin bread, but it's not a spicy pumpkin flavor.
4. Are you a tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours, and at what time of day? Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc? I like hot tea when the weather cools down. It's not something I have every day. I do, however, drink iced tea most every day. Luzinanne decaf, sweetened with Splenda. I purchased a couple of teas over at John's Pass last week and tried them each once. Very good...
5. The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today-what are three things that make your heart sing? I can list a lot more than three things, but I'll just pick three more current things that come to mind: 1. cooler temps here in Florida; 2. Chili in the crockpot; 3. a good meal out with friends.
6. Insert your own random thought here. My friend, Cheryl (Helen's niece, for those who know about them), asked me to visit a flea market she heard about that is over in Kissimmee (Orland0). She picked me up around 9:00 a.m. and off we went. It was a total bust. It is just three buildings full of cheap Orlando/Disney souvenirs and other "junk". She was disappointed, but bought two beach towels for $10 to use in the car for her dog. We came back to Lakeland, and I treated her to lunch (since she drove) at The Garden Bistro. She had never been there before and liked it. It was a fun 'adventure,' and we both agreed on "been there, done that, never again." I really don't like Orlando at all.

I'm taking my mother-in-law to a huge flea market near us today. I've only been once and it was mostly junk although hubs did buy some fishing rods, but my mother-in-law has a knack for finding things in places like this. We'll see. I love chili this time of year too. It's one of those things that says seasons are changing and it's time to get cozy. Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteI don't get that 6-7 business either, but I know the kids think it's so funny!
ReplyDeleteBummer about the flea market. At least you got out and had fun.
I've learned that in Britain being "all six's and seven's" means confusion or chaos, a muddle. Don't know if that fits the situation.
ReplyDeleteThe birthday party sounds like fun! Take lots of pictures.
We've been drinking a lot more decaf tea lately. Slowly giving up caff and other unhealthy (for us) things only so I can sleep better. ❤️
My grandson cracks up everytime we say "6 or 7"---I can't imagine being a math teacher in jr high! lol
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the flea market was a bust, Terri, but at least you got to spend some time with Cheryl and treat her to lunch. Fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope the driveway being painted goes well.
ReplyDeleteI like Pumpkin Spice Lattes but I am over that now and I am looking forward to the Christmas drinks.
That is a shame that the flea market wasn't great but it sounds like a fun adventure.
That 6-7 thing is a mystery to me. I had not heard of it until the Hodgepodge questions came out this week. You have taken me to The Garden Bistro, right? We enjoyed it, as well as that whole area with the swans and the grotto. Very cool places to take your guests.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did take you there and we enjoyed the Hollis Gardens, next to the Bistro. It really is a beautiful part of my great town!
DeleteEveryone has heard of 6 - 7 but no one knows what it means. LOL
ReplyDeleteSorry about the flea market.
Good luck on your driveway!
I have no clue about the 6-7 thing. I guess I should look it up. I'm sorry the flea market was a bust. At least you saved the day with a good lunch at a nice place. I know Cheryl enjoyed it. I avoid Orlando/Kissimmee area at all cost! I don't know how my sister stands living in that area (Altamonte Springs, on the north end of Orlando). I don't do well in traffic. I guess it's all in what you are used to. I bet your chili is good! and I can't wait to see the new painted driveway! Will it be pink or green or red or purple? I bet it's going to be gray! LOL. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be gray. I bought the paint today. The color is as close as I can get to the original cement gray. Whoever painted it before we moved here, did a sponge-like paint design that is worn and nasty. I want it to wear well so I don't have to worry about needing to do it again!
DeleteI won't be using it anytime soon -- but my take on the 6-7 thing is like an indicator of pain. You know, when the nurse asks, "On a scale of 1-to-10 ..."
ReplyDeleteI rarely drink tea (iced or hot), but that creme brulee sounds yummy. Two thumbs up for meals with friends!
I wish you all the best on your driveway, Terri!
ReplyDeleteI also shared my opinion that pumpkin spice is only so-so. Just doesn't live up to the annual hype. Sorry the flea market was a bust - that seems to be the way most flea markets are these days, more cheap junk than good deals. Hope you're having a good week!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the flea market was a bust! I know that was disappointing to all!! How does your old boss pronounce her name? Like Dannon yogurt? or Dah non? We met someone on our cruise whosename was spelled like your friend's name, but it had an unusual pronounciation.
