The Saturday 9...

Thanks to our hostess, Crazy Sam, for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Sh-boom

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to
answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Sh-Boom (1954)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 70 years ago this month, the Crew Cuts were singing that life could be a dream. When you awaken, can you recall your dreams?  I rarely remember my dreams.  I know that I dream but - poof - they are gone.

2) The lead singer refers to his girl as "darling," "sweetheart" and "baby." Have you used an affectionate endearment lately?  No.  If yes, who were you speaking to?  Perhaps I can count calling my cats sweet names?  LOL

3) Two members of this Canadian quartet are brothers, born 15 months apart. Do you have siblings?  Yes. If yes, how close in age are you?  We are basically three years apart.  I'm oldest, then 3 years later, my brother Randy, then 3 years later, Patti, then 3 years later  (she will tell you they got perfection and stopped), Tammy.

4) A hit in Toronto, the Crew Cuts traveled by car to appear on TV in New York. How are your wheels? Would you give your vehicle a tune up before embarking on a 1,000 mile (500 miles each way) road trip?  I just got new tires, and yes - I always have the car checked before I set out on a road trip.

5) In 54 and 55, they had five Top 10 hits. Then the Crew Cuts fell off the charts. Founding member Rudi Maugeri suspects it's because they were a "teen act" and teenage music tastes can change fast. Who did you listen to when you were in high school?  It was the 1960s!!  Beatles, Stones, Janice, Bread, Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Cher, Blood Sweat & Tears, Temptations, Supremes, CCR, Byrds...  the absolute best music!!  :)

6) A well-maintained crew cut should be trimmed every 2-4 weeks. Is there an appointment with a hairstylist on your calendar?  Every 4-5 weeks for me.  I make the next appointment before I leave the current one.

Let's look at the summer of 1954.

7) 70 years ago, Chicago Bears great Walter Payton was born. Today more than 1200 students are enrolled in Chicago's Walter Payton College Preparatory High School. Was your high school named after anyone?  Nope. Just the town.  Millersport High School (in Walnut Township).

8) J.R.R. Tolkien's Fellowship of the Rings was published. It's the first of three volumes in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Have you read the books and/or seen the movies?  I think I've seen the movies (I know the first one for sure) but didn't read the books.  Sorry.

9) Sports Illustrated was first published. As a special promotion, the premier issue included baseball cards. With the introduction of online communities and trading apps, collecting baseball cards continues to grow in popularity. Are there any card collectors in your life?  Nope.  Not in the past or more current times.

Peace and Hugs!

Trust and obey...

  2. Most of my music is from the 70s and early 80s. During current times I listen mostly to old hymns, easy listening or Classical music. It's so calming.
Hope your day is blessed. 💙

  3. I always liked 50's music although I wasn't born until 1960. I know that song but never heard of the group. Interesting name!
Bob is a huge Tolkien fan, but I haven't read those books.

  4. Our generation certainly had some fantastic music to listen to, didn't we? The best thing about keeping my hair long, and now not highlighted, is not having to have it trimmed so often; I never looked good with short hair, that's for sure! Have a great weekend, Terri!

  6. I dream every night and always remember my dreams. I know...it's odd! It's one of the reasons I put dreamer in my blog name. Enjoy your weekend and plans for the coming week!

  7. I do believe our generation enjoyed the best music! Every time I'm tempted to postpone a monthly cut, a rogue curl appears like overnight. Best I stay on my hair diet.
    Wishing you a blessed SONday.

  9. "Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." The junior choir at my church (4th grade) had to memorize this hymn for a choir competition. I have never forgot the words and often remember them. What a blessing!
