Friday Fotos...

I have a couple of photos to share.  Nothing exciting but here they are...

A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of a "new" lake that
was uncovered by the energy folks working in their easement.
This is another photo.  I can't get closer but it is quite pretty.

And while I was out and about, this picture shows a
shallow-water crossing with new pavement that has been worked on for
a few weeks.  The rocks on the right side of the road are for drainage.
Work can only be done on the roadways when we are closed to the public,
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  I've watched the
truckloads of stones and bricks go by my office for weeks, so it was
good to see them finished (there are two crossings).

This photo isn't mine, but was shared on Facebook.  I was so excited to
actually see my old hometown listed and to see the canal system
that was part of our neighborhood play area.  We hiked the old
tow-paths and my dad's boat was docked on the canal that emptied into
Buckeye Lake.  I put yellow dots on both ends of Millersport.
The Ohio-Erie canal system was a massive undertaking.
The Ohio River in the south and Lake Erie in the north.

The Ohio and Erie Canal, connecting Lake Erie at Cleveland with the Ohio River at Portsmouth, was constructed by the State of Ohio between 1825-32, to provide cheap transportation and to promote the state's economic development.

The canal was 308 miles long and 4 feet deep, with 146 lift locks. Construction was largely done by Irish and German immigrants using picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows, with oxen to move heavy stones and trees. The first section, between Cleveland and Akron, opened on July 4, 1827, and the entire canal was completed in 1832.

That's all I've got.  Wishing you a lovely Friday
and a happy weekend!!

Peace and Hugs!

  1. Your workplace surroundings remind me of the old Florida I used to love visiting as a child. How fun to happen upon that map! Discoveries like that make FB still worthwhile, I think. Have a blessed Friday!

  9. My family lived in Lockport, New York through which the Erie Canal flows. I was 6 years old when we were sent there and 8 years old when we moved to California.
