I am writing this on Sunday evening and the rain continues to fall. Water is our biggest issue from this Debby storm. A few tornadoes have been reported south of Lakeland, but I've not seen any warnings for us yet... just a 'watch'. Debby is supposed to turn into a hurricane as it continues up the coast before making an eastward turn at the curve of the panhandle and traveling northeast. My sister, blogging friend Sparky, and my DIL Darlene will all be feeling Debby if they aren't already. Praying!
As reported previously, I didn't go to Megan's wedding shower on Saturday because the storm was moving faster and I was afraid to be on the Interstate, through Orlando, with rain and wind. Debby slowed down and we didn't get the first rains until after 1:00 on Saturday. We didn't get heavy rains again until a couple of hours after I got home from church on Sunday.
Not much work got done this weekend. I did the laundry, as usual. I did speak with my son Joe for nearly an hour on Saturday. It is always good to catch up with him. He is deployed right now. Lots of texts with family and I did make my apologies for not going to the shower, on the phone with Megan. She is such a dear, sweet person. My nephew is a lucky man!!
That's really all I've got for you. This is a quiet week as well. I do have a funeral to attend on Saturday for a friend from my old church, Resurrection. Judy was 104 and a cancer survivor. She was on my Relay For Life team all seven years that we participated. Here is a photo of us from her 100th birthday party.
I have posted this photo before, but she is helping lead the Survivors' Lap, standing next to me at one of our Relay events. She was an amazing woman of faith and will be missed by many.
Genesis 9:13 says, "I have set my rainbow in the
clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant
between me and the earth".
So glad it sounds like you are going to miss the worst of it... always a nail biter.. My friend in Bradenton had a couple of tornado alerts and a scary business...
ReplyDeleteIt's a big, wet mess here. No damage around me, it seems, but flooded roads and the rain is still coming down. I've been told to stay home because my car won't make it through the flooding on the way to work. Fine with me!!
DeleteI'm glad you're safe, although wet. Debby is creating havoc it seems.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the loss of your friend. She lived a long life!
Well, I think a 104 years and Heaven is a good life.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for all the rain - but at least your home is still standing. I hope everyone is okay.
Glad you took the day off - saw it on Facebook - don't want to ruin your car!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend...but there is great peace in knowing you will see her again. Love the Relay for Life photo! It just seems that heaven is getting sweeter and sweeter with so many of our loved ones who have gone ahead! What a reunion there will be someday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing Judy was to so many, Terri! That photo of her at 100 leaves me speechless - she doesn't look a day over 80. Stay safe in all that rain. I'll be sure to add Sparky, Darlene and your sister to my prayers for our South Georgia friends and family - my brother, Bill, and his family live in Brunswick.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Just back home from Bible study where we lifted prayers for those in Debby's path!
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember your friend Judy! If memory serves, I think I said something about her sure not looking like 100 years old. A life well-lived for sure. I like that you're choosing to remember the Good Times. xo
Glad the storm is on the other side of you. As one who lives in the path of may I always pray for those in the cone. Glad you were able to catch up with your son. Phone conversations can be wonderful. Stay dry.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet testimony of your friend, Judy. Hard to imagine..104! What a blessing. I pray the memorial is a tribute that encourages many. She may well have outlived most of her family....so nice to know all the friends that she has impacted. Glad you are terribly impacted by the storm. Smart idea staying put this weekend. Hope it dries up soon. Stay safe...and have a good week ahead!
