Weekends don't mean quite the same thing they used to mean and it's pretty nice!
Ahhhh....retirement!!
This one just past was lazy and quite nice.
Friday afternoon, I had my lunch-bunch girlfriends over to see the new (almost 6 months!) house and to wish Melody a happy birthday. We had a nice time. I had a salad bar prepared so everyone could make their own salad. I forgot to take a picture. I also had Greek yogurt and strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to go with it. For dessert, I had cupcakes for Mel's birthday. (I did NOT have one and was fine with it.) Here is a photo and you can see the candle in Melody's if you look close enough. It was fun catching up with everyone!
Downtown was busy, but it is always busy. We have a beautiful historic downtown area full of great restaurants and fun little shops.
Saturday evening, we had dinner at Luisa and Ernie's house and also enjoyed the company of Mike and Mary Ellen. Luisa cooked pork, chicken, rice with red beans, and Brussel sprouts with a salad to start and Angel Food cake for dessert. I did have a tiny piece of cake and a cup of Cuban coffee that was delicious! We visited for nearly three more hours after dinner. Love our friends! I didn't take a photo at their house, but here is our group a couple of years ago at a restaurant....
Yesterday, we didn't leave the house. Piddled around doing this and that and then sat in front of the TV for the rest of the evening. Laundry day is now Wednesday! This week ahead is going to be CRAZY busy. More doctor appointments (follow ups), auto appointments, dental appointments, furniture removal on Monday, new furniture delivered on Friday, Joey and Darlene coming by train on Friday so they can drive Joe's car back to Georgia and the following week we will begin learning to get by with one car (and saving over $100 a month on insurance, $40 a month on fuel....etc., etc.).
Win, win. So blessed.

How disciplined you are to forego a cupcake Terri. Good Luck with your new eating habits. It is hard to get your mind wrapped around it but once you do, like you said, it is easier to give up treats. I still allow myself the occasional treat. But seeing the numbers going down on the scale is just a real encouragement to keep going.

Goodness, but your retirement is awfully busy! It's great that you have so many friends and such an active lifestyle. Enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteMr D and I sold our second car a few years ago and it's very seldom missed. There have been a few occasions when we had to go separate directions but we found a way to handle it. Hope you enjoy the new week ahead!!

ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having a great time!! Such fun to be able to visit with friends and just relax and enjoy life! We get along fine with one car, even though our two sons still live here and each have a car, but they do have them with them all the time, so we are essentially a one-car couple. But, we live so far out that we don't go anywhere without each other pretty much. The only thing is I never get to drive much anymore. That is a big change. I really don't mind. I'm very happy for you! You are going to really enjoy being retired.

OK. Cuban coffee. I've never had it but it must be crazy good! We have a Cuban restaurant in town that has the BEST Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. And, they have Cuban coffee, I just haven't ever had it.

ReplyDeleteHow I miss Cuban Coffee! For a while, I was detouring almost 10 miles out of my way each weekday morning to get a to-go container of that goodness.
