Mondays feel just a little different to me now! It is becoming 'just another day' and I'm loving it!
I don't have a lot of photos to share but we did have a good weekend! Friday evening, we had dinner with Gregory and Matt at Pho Tan (Vietnamese restaurant). I don't think Gregory was impressed with the food, but we enjoyed ours and it's one of Matt's favorites. It was fun seeing them (former co-workers) and catching up on the week I was not part of anymore.
Saturday, Joe and I went on an adventure - road trip if you will. Several of you blogging friends have mentioned the great buys you get at a store called Ollie's. I found out we do have them in Florida and one is located in Zephyrhills, which is a little town 22 miles away. We found Ollie's and really enjoyed shopping through every aisle. I mentioned before that Joe actually enjoys shopping so that always makes it more fun. We did find some bargains and are happy with our purchases. Even better, the check out clerk told us that "there are rumors of one coming to Lakeland"!!
When we returned home, I got some spaghetti sauce (gravy) started (with meatballs and sausage) so it could simmer for a few hours before our company came for dinner. Another co-worker (former) and his wife were coming for dinner. He is Italian so I planned pasta and salad. We had an antipasto to munch on while the garlic bread baked and the pasta cooked. I forgot to get the "after" picture, so the empty table and platter look very empty. Dinner was a hit and everyone had seconds. I served gelato for dessert.
Joe had a couple of warts removed from his hand two weeks ago. One of them needed a second treatment when he went back for the follow-up. It got a HUGE blister on it that burst. We cleaned it and put ointment on it and kept it covered but it has become infected. His poor hand is swollen and red, so off we went to Urgent Care yesterday morning. He got a shot of antibiotic and a prescription for 10 days. He has to go back to the dermatologist for follow-up (again!).
When we got home, we had a visitor on the front stoop.....
The little lizards are actually good to have around. They eat bugs. They are also FAST and scurry about when you walk close to them. When we lived in our old house, that had a caged in pool, the cats used to catch them and bring them in through the pet door. It was not unusual to find a lizard in the house. Fortunately, that doesn't happen in our new house!
Speaking of our old house, our old neighbors who used to watch our cats when we traveled and we watched theirs when they traveled, needed our help over the weekend. Neighbors on the other side of our old house have been taking care of their cats, but Millie needs insulin shots twice a day and can be a little grumpy about it. Two times we were called as back-up because Carly couldn't get the injection done. Millie is more used to us and we got it done for her. Happy we could help and it was fun seeing our old house. I really don't miss it at all (and neither does Joe). It was nice seeing their cats, though. Murphy, Millie, and Bonnie. We got lots of love from them.
So that was our weekend. We have a busy week ahead, full of doctor appointments nearly every day for one or both of us. Getting schedules coordinated to make one car work for us will take patience and planning. Lucky to still have both cars in the carport. Friday I am hosting my lunch-bunch girlfriends. They haven't been over yet so it will be fun showing them our house. Saturday evening, we are going to friends for dinner with our dinner group. We haven't all been together for several months because of our moving and travels for others. It will be a nice reunion!
Wishing you a blessed week ahead! Peace & hugs.

Glad to hear you are settling into your new normal. I remember it was like that for me. You still have the mindset you have to get it all done while there is time. After awhile you find a schedule that works for you and things calm down some. Enjoy your busy week. I'm telling you,I'm busier now than I ever was when I worked.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a joy filled life you have. Seems you're settling right into retirement! So sorry about Mr. Joe's hand. Prayers that it heals fast. Glad you liked Ollie's.... we do, too! Take care this week as you're out and about!
ReplyDeleteYou were busy...I do not think you will miss "work" at all!!
ReplyDelete{{{Big Smiles}}} I am so happy to read that you are settling in to a new normal, smiles. Have a beautiful week, friend.
ReplyDeleteYou are always so busy. Sounds like you had a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteHope Joe's hand gets better soon.
Have a great day!
You sound an happy retiree but busy, busy, busy. Seeing your old home probably made you twice as happy to be where you are now. We dont have an Ollie's so no clue what they have, but glad you found one and liked it. I know how it is to schedule appointments so there is no conflict. Happy Monday and hope your have a good week ahead.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found Ollie's. Been shopping there for years outfitting the kids with college dorm stuff and new apt stuff, too. Hope the one-car thing works for you guys. We've had only one for about 4 years, and I really miss my freedom to hop into the car and go someplace without us having a pow-wow about who has to go where when and one of us sitting while the other does their errands. But, its a small problem in the longrun. Glad you're finally out of the work-a-day world with limited time off. I'm sure you'll be enjoying your new freedom to the hilt :)
ReplyDeleteMy dad LOVESSSS Ollie's - I've only been in one once - & I just sat in the book section forever :)
ReplyDeletelove the lizard! :)
ReplyDeleteYou do stay busy! I am so glad that you are enjoying retirement thus far, and that you have had plenty of fun and friends to share it with...even the lizard! We have lots of those darling creatures around our house. We name them "Lizardo"...good Italian name for our amorous reptiles! They are always romancing the lady lizards around here...we get a big kick out of their showing off! Sorry to hear about Joe's hand. Praying it will heal quickly and not have any further problems. I haven't been to Ollie's yet, but we do have one in Palatka and one in Ocala, so both are within 30 miles of us, which for us is as good as it gets! LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy lizzies said to tell your lizzies "hello!!"
ReplyDeleteThat was a good weekend! I never heard of Ollies, wish we had one. :) I also wish Bob liked to shop. He believed in running in, grabbing what you need and running out!
ReplyDeleteBusy lady!
ReplyDeleteI love watching our lizards patrol the back fence. Frustrates our dogs to no end that they're unable to catch one. (So far...)
Poor Joe! That infection sounds terribly painful, but glad he's getting it under control.
Sounds like you have few regrets! Party hardy and enjoy yourselves.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely weekend you had! I just love Thai food - and honestly, I don't see Gregory liking it that much either. lol.
ReplyDeleteYour gravy looks so incredible! It looks just like my grandparents did. Mmm. I think I just might have to make some this weekend.
