Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 646
3. Spring into action, spring in your step, spring to life, spring to one's feet...which spring idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Explain. A spring in my step! I am enjoying walking with my friends most mornings, who are also my neighbors. I feel better when I start my day walking. Doing it with friends is even better!
4. Which spring food from this list is your favorite? What's a dish you like that includes your favorite spring ingredient?
asparagus, strawberries, salad greens like mesclun, artichokes, spinach, eggs, peas, spring onions
Fresh strawberries taste so good! I make Bisquick's Velvet Crumb Cake to use as my shortcake. (I don't make the topping.) Add some whipped cream to the strawberries (cleaned and halved, with sugar added), and pour some milk over the cake and berries... yum! Not everyone likes the milk in the bowl, but that's how I ate it at home, growing up in Ohio.
5. What's one task on your spring cleaning list? Do you actually have a list? I don't have a spring cleaning list, but I do have a weekly list that I try to stick to. I made good progress on the shed, with Jim and Elaine's help when they were here. That was my last BIG cleaning-out project. Thanks, Jim and Elaine!
6. Insert your own random thought here. I had a nice lunch at Cafe 51 yesterday, with my friend Shirley and her son David. A nice little restaurant with good service and really good food. I need to tell the Thursday night group about it. Today I have a dentist appointment. My usual 6-month cleaning and check-up.

I used to eat strawberries like that too, it must be a midwestern thing, Terri. That is how I grew up eating that too. Wishing you a beautiful day. smiles
ReplyDeleteI've never had shortcake with milk poured over but I'm sure I'd like it. I love that hymn, one of my absolute favorites, but got tickled reading about crowns right after you mentioned the dentist : ) SC strawberries are really good too, but we're only seeing Florida berries right now. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI try!!
DeleteHmmm--strawberries is a very happy part of March for me!
ReplyDeleteI love fresh strawberries at this time of the year, too, Terri, especially when they come from Florida. They are the best! Good luck at the dentist!
ReplyDeleteI need to ask my strawberry-loving hubby if he'd like me to make your desert recipe; clever twist on the traditional!
ReplyDeleteWe watched 'Rescued by Ruby' last night and thoroughly enjoyed it; thanks for the recommendation!
Good to hear the walking is still going well Terri. Definitely a good way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, I am so happy that the walking is going well! I took a walk this morning, which is just about 20 minutes away from my apartment building, to go for a blood test. I fell on the pavement/sidewalk, not even on ice or snow! I am fine, thank God, but I am sharing the details and photo of this fall on my next blog post (for Thursday), which will appear on my blog this evening.
ReplyDeleteStrawberries in the spring are the best and some dear person gave me some last week! :) I do need to try the milk thing sometime.
ReplyDeleteYour Florida weather always sounds so lovely and the walking sounds great too. It is always better with friends.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to make our strawberry shortcake that way too, with milk over it instead of whipped cream. But I don't like milk, so I prefer the whipped cream. I know my brother Clifford still eats his with milk. Yes, it must be an Ohio thing. My mother was from Ohio!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a good week. I'm glad you are getting out and walking regularly with your friends. That is so nice. John and I try to get out more often than we were when it was so cold...we're just not quite back in the routine yet.
Take care and have a wonderful rest of your week.
Oh, what I wouldn't give for some fresh Plant City strawberries...in Plant City. Strawberries are so awful once they hit the stores here. They are either dry, have no taste, or are moldy. I miss just picked berries. All the pick-your-own places I used to go to have closed.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Your strawberry shortcake sounds AMAZING! :)
