March 21st: The Saturday 9

 Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join the fun by clicking HERE!

London Town

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions; however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: London Town (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Have you ever visited London?  No.

2) In this song, Paul sings of encountering a London street musician playing the flute. Are there street musicians in your town?  There are usually one or two at our Saturday Farmer's Market.

3) It's raining as he wanders around London. How is the weather where you are today?  Absolutely beautiful!!  Our high temp will be 83 today.  The sun is shining, and there is no humidity!!  Our winter weather is back!

4) "London Town" is one of a handful of songs credited to Paul McCartney and Denny Laine, his bandmate in Wings from 1971 to 1981. They became fast friends in the mid-60s when Denny was with The Moody Blues, the band that opened for The Beatles on their final UK concert tour. Paul has acknowledged Denny's outstanding vocals and guitar playing, as well as his humor and generosity. Share the good qualities of one of your close friends. Besides being kind and smart, Elaine has a green thumb, and she is quite crafty.

5) Wings broke up in 1981 when Paul decided he was weary of touring. His kids were in school, his Beatle bandmate John Lennon had been murdered, and he simply felt more comfortable staying put and working in the studio, rather than performing live. Denny believed this would mean his role and his financial compensation would diminish, so he quit Wings. Tell us about why you left one of your jobs.  I left the private high school where I worked because the new principal was using money she shouldn't have to decorate her office.  Student activity money is for the students and not part of the school's budget.  She barred me from attending Finance Committee meetings, stating she would handle it going forward.  I left before she could throw me (the accountant) under the bus.  She was fired two years later.

6) Linda McCartney also wrote and performed with Wings. In addition to music, she is known for her photography and cookbooks. Of these three – music, photography, and cooking – which do you enjoy most?  Cooking.

7) Paul's first car was a 1964 Aston Martin DB5. He selected it himself before The Beatles went off on their first world tour, and it was waiting for him when he got home to London. He drove it when he shouldn't have, as he didn't get his license until the spring of 1965. When did you get your driver's license?  I had my learner's permit when I was 15 and got my license soon after I turned 16.  That would have been in 1968.

8) Speaking of driver's licenses ... Last year, someone bought one of Paul's expired driver's licenses at auction for $20,000. When you get a new license, passport, or state-issued ID, what do you do with the old one?  I have my old passport (and Joe's), but the old license always gets shredded.

9) Random question – Which do you have more of: dirty dishes in the sink or dirty clothes in the hamper?  Dirty clothes in the hamper.  I don't put dishes in the sink.  Dirty dishes get rinsed and put into the dishwasher.

Peace and Hugs!

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet;
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to His name!

  1. Dear Terri, thank you so much for sharing this post. ❤️ Sir Paul McCartney has always been my favourite Beatle, followed by George Harrison.

  3. Since our house sits directly in the sun all day, I had to turn the ac back on, it might only be 83* as the house was so uncomfortable, sigh. Wishing you a lovely day, Terri. smiles

  4. I'd love to visit London some day, but it's not likely!
    Glad you are having good weather. It made it to 60 here yesterday and we enjoyed it. It's going to be cooler today and tomorrow, but Spring is coming. :)

  5. I live in England and I've never visited London, I've always lived up in the North. The sun is shining here but it's not that warm, it's 55F.
    Oh gosh! That is shocking about the principal of the school you worked at.
    It's always dirty clothes in the hamper here. As a family of 4 it is hard to keep up, especially when I have girls who like to change their outfits a lot. Ugh.

  6. How curious about your former position at the private high school. Not unlike yours, I had a less than scrupulous manager who made my workdays hard to stomach. I'd no choice but to resign; but not before she'd tainted my reputation. The good news? Two years later she was 'found out' and terminated .... and I had apologies from two senior managers.

  7. We are supposed to be 80 today. Too hot for my liking. I loved ole Paul. But we all grow old don't we. You were a very strong woman in that private school. Kudos to you!

  8. These are fun. I put my dishes in the dishwasher too and now I am running it every other day. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement these past few months. I know you understand the heartache and appreciate your prayers. Hugs, Diane

  9. I have been to London when I was doing a study-abroad in college. It was an amazing Place years ago, but I certainly would not want to visit now with all the issues the U.K. is having. Have a great day, Terri!

  12. I'd be jealous of your weather, but ours was nearly as nice today. Wow. That is quite the story about the principal. I'm glad you got out of there before anything happened!
