Linger
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions; however, here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: Linger (1993)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries sings that her lover has her wrapped around his finger. Do you feel that anyone has you wrapped around their finger? Just my cats.
2) This was one of the first songs Delores and Noel Hogan wrote together. They performed it often live and perfected it before going into the studio to record it approximately two years later. Because they had polished the performance and arrangement, it's not a surprise that it was the biggest hit off their debut album. Tell us about a time when your preparation paid off. Preparation ALWAYS pays off. Prior proper planning prevents p_ss poor performance. My Joe called that quote the seven P's. You can shorten it to six if preferred. Still works.
3) The Cranberries believed the moody black-and-white video (linked above) playing on MTV contributed to the song's popularity. MTV and VH1 were highly influential when they showed music videos and interviews 24/7 during the 1980s and 1990s. Do you recall watching music videos on MTV and/or VH1? I watched a few, but that was really after "my time". My time included American Bandstand.
4) The Cranberries were founded by brothers Noel and Mike Hogan in their hometown of Limerick, Ireland. The River Shannon runs through Limerick. Do you live near a river? No, but there are 38 named lakes in Lakeland.
5) Fergal Lawler soon joined the brothers and became the Cranberries drummer. Today, he says he enjoys listening to his early work with the group because "Songs are like a snapshot in time." Do you often flip through photo albums and look at snapshots? Not photo albums, but I flip through my Google Photos often.
6) Dolores O'Riordan showed up for her Cranberries audition dressed casually in a black tracksuit with her own Casio electronic keyboard tucked under her arm. The Hogans were impressed not only by her vocals but also by her no-nonsense, "let's get to work" attitude. Share a memory from one of your job interviews. My most embarrassing interview... it wasn't going well, and when I left, there was a mirror in the elevator. Guess who had one of those dry boogers hanging from her nose? No, I didn't get the job.
7) In 1993, when "Linger" was released, The Nanny premiered on CBS. It's remembered today for its catchy theme song, which tells the story of "the nanny named Fran." Can you recall the lyrics to the theme of one of your favorite shows? The Beverly Hillbillies, The Adams Family, and probably several more from that era...
8) In 1993, gas was $1.11/gallon. Could your vehicle use a fill-up right now? No, and thank goodness I filled up before the prices went up this week.
9) Random question: How many pairs of shoes do you own? Too many. I don't want to count them because I really don't want to know. More than a dozen.

I'm glad my tank is full, too, Terri, but I do know this increase won't be permanent. I remember the theme songs from both the shows you mentioned, too. How about Gilligan's Island? Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that thought on #6, lol. We filled my truck up yesterday and it was $3.49 9/10 a gallon, might as well be $3.50 a gallon, sigh. Wishing you a lovely day my friend.
ReplyDeleteGas for $1.11 seems so long ago. It's up here too and I just had to fill up. I never heard the 7 P's quote before but it's so true.
ReplyDeleteThe older shows used to have the best lyrics.
I’m glad I filled my tank, even happier that I drive a hybrid. The price of gas …
ReplyDelete"Prior proper planning prevents poor performance;" yes, Gary quotes this (the 6-word version) from time to time. He is a strong believer in planning ahead. I agree.
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, I really enjoyed American Bandstand!
ReplyDeleteEveryone has mentioned their pets. I can't believe I didn't think of mine. Joe's saying is a good one. It sounds like something my dad would have said. My "time" was kind of at the intersection of American Bandstand and music videos. It was fun reading your answers today, Terri. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHaha Terri, your cats do have you wrapped around their fingers!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, preparation does always pays off. I love that seven P's quote!
ReplyDeleteI used to love MTV and still would watch things on it until a few years ago.
I think I only own about 5 pairs of shoes. I used to own a lot more.
I'd not heard that quote, but it's a Keeper!
ReplyDeleteThe only televised dance tunes I remember were Shindig and Hullabaloo (sp?). Those old theme songs are such fun ... don't forget the lyrics! xo
Oh no! I cringed with you about the dry booger!! I have heard that quote and it rings true. I own too many pairs of shoes and most of them are some sort of tennis shoe or Birkenstock.
