February 6th: Friday Focus

My Friday and Saturday are clear of anything I need to do or places I need to go.  I think I'll have a couple of prescriptions ready at the Publix Pharmacy tomorrow, so there is that.

On Sunday, we have a potluck after services.  I'm taking a chicken, rice, cheese, and broccoli casserole.  It's easy to put together.  Our church kitchen doesn't have an oven or stove, but we have a big "warmer" that keeps food perfect for eating.  I take the casserole out of my oven, put it in a thermal carrier, deliver it to the warmer at church (only 15 minutes away), and it is ready (with lots of other good food) when the Benediction is done!  Church members everywhere do seem to know how to put on a feast, don't they!

Focusing in on last Wednesday, I had lunch with my 89-year old friend, Shirley.  We try to get together once a month, but missed January because of my quick trip to Georgia and the two-week-long stupid cold.  It is always fun catching up with her.  We finish our meals and continue to talk long after the ice melts in our glasses!  The waitress took our picture.  It's not very good of either of us, but here it is.  We were at Glory Days Grill.

You can't really see my t-shirt above, because of my sweater, but I am so tickled with it!!  This picture makes it look brownish, but it is really a deep green.  I just got it!!

In an earlier post, I mentioned the cabbage and sausage dish that I like to make.  I took a picture of it and have been eating it for four days now.  Cabbage, onion, peppers, smoked sausage, season it to your taste (salt, pepper, garlic for me).  I started the cabbage with a half stick of butter and added a tablespoon or so of avocado oil later.

Last night, the Mas Verde Dinner Group consisted of only four of us.  One couple both have covid, another couple was traveling, Paul is still in the hospital, so Anne didn't want to come.  The four of us enjoyed the company, as always.  I totally forgot about getting a photo.

I think we are done with the arctic cold, here in Central Florida. It was colder than usual yesterday and into today, but not like earlier in the week.  It didn't go below freezing!  Temps will be back to our normal low to mid 70s tomorrow.  So happy to put the jacket away!  Casper will be happy, too!!

Peace and Hugs!

To everything, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose, under heaven.

  1. Love the picture of Casper above. He reminds me of our Sunshine. (R.I.P.). Blackie has completely taken over John's lap, our couch, and my lap when I can sit still long enough. LOL. I LOVE your t-shirt. Did someone get that for you or did you order it? It is really cute, and so YOU! Oh, your cabbage dish looks delicious! I have to try that sometime. We had cabbage and Kielbasa last night, but I don't add peppers. We eat it with mashed potatoes. Yours is probably healthier! LOL. I love that you and Shirley were able to get out and enjoy lunch together. What a blessing for both of you. And your chicken, rice, and cheese and broccoli dish sounds wonderful. You say it is easy to put together...do you cook your chicken with the rice, etc. all together? Do you add some kind of soup or broth to the mixture? I would be interested in seeing your recipe.
It is cold here again this morning, but warmer days are ahead, I think. We only got less than 2/10's of an inch of rain the other night! It's like it skipped all around us again. I was very disappointed. It dampened down the smoke from the fire and yesterday was a smoke free day, but I can smell it again this morning...
Okay, gotta get moving. Have a blessed weekend.

  2. Lovely that you have an ongoing relationship with your friend that you nurture. I have a lovely lady across from me-also in her late 80s. My son and I just drove her 4 hours to pick up a new puppy -since her last little dog died in November. It is the joy of her life and has changed her whole demeanor. She had kind of given up on living life but this puppy has put a sparkle in her eye again. Sorry-got carried away there...lol... Anyway- I love that cat shirt...too funny. I would get one with my pups on it and wear it for fun. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your church feast. xo Diana

  4. I love your shirt!
Glad the cold is gone from you. We had another storm last night with snow and ice. It does look beautiful outside, I must admit.
A man in our church made a huge, long stainless steel table with electric plugs about every 9 inches. So when we have potlucks, everyone brings crockpots and sets them on the table, plugs them in and they are ready after church.

  5. That T-shirt is fantastic, Terri! I like the idea of your sausage and cabbage dish, too. Think I'll suggest it to my personal chef - LOL! Prayers lifted for Paul and Anne.

  9. I love cabbage cooked with sausage like that! YUMMY! Love your Catmother T-Shirt. You have so many friends it always amazes me - not that you have so many friends - just that there are so many people there. Totally opposite of my life.
