Watching TV
Television has become part of life for many. Let's talk about Television, okay?
1. Do you own a TV, or do you have more than one? Is it old-fashioned or one of the new wide screens? I have FIVE TVs. Ridiculous, I know. I live alone. Two are 50", one is 32", one is 28", and one is 21". They are all smart TVs.
2. Which programs do you like to watch? I watch a lot of the British crime shows. I enjoy medical shows. I have quite a few subscriptions on YouTube. British baking shows. The Repair Shop is in my top five favorites. I watch too much TV.
3. Were you ever a soap opera or serial fan, and if so, what series or soaps were your favorite? Many years ago (high school), I watched All My Children, One Life To Live, General Hospital, and Dark Shadows. Now, there are way too many series to mention, but I don't watch soaps anymore.
4. Is there a TV character that stands out in your mind, and if so, what makes them special or noteworthy? I loved all the characters Gilda Radner played in the early seasons of Saturday Night Live. Emily Litella and Roseanne Roseannadanna were my favorites. Which ones did you like best? Gilda was a comedy genius. I loved her autobiography.
- Emily Litella — a sweet, hearing-impaired, elderly-sounding commentator who famously misunderstands topics and then says “Never mind.”
- Roseanne Roseannadanna — a brash, tactless “consumer reporter” who went off-topic on Weekend Update.
- Baba Wawa — a broad parody of TV journalist Barbara Walters.
- Lisa Loopner — the frizzy-haired “nerd” from The Nerds sketches (often paired with Bill Murray’s Todd).
- Judy Miller — an over-energetic, childlike character who hosted her own imaginary show.
- Candy Slice — a punk/rock singer (a Patti Smith–style send-up).

Peace and Hugs to all!
Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
You really do have a lot of TVs! I guess you can watch one no matter which room you are in. I like that they are different sizes. Gilda Radner really played some funny characters.
ReplyDeleteGilda Radner was funny and talented.
ReplyDeleteWe are still loving the Repair Shop!
Gosh, that's a lot of tv's! I guess you could turn on all your favorite shows at once and go from room to room to watch them. LOL. Seriously, it's a nice thing for when company comes to spend the night and they have a TV in their room. We are down to just one TV in the living room, and that's fine with me. If I get desperate enough to watch something other than what hubby is watching, I can see it on my computer. (but I have to use headphones then, and I HATE headphones. LOL). You make a cool Gilda Radner! Funny! I did like her, even though we never really watched SNL. (never could stay up that late on a Saturday night when hubby was preaching the next morning! LOL, and now we just can't stay up that late regardless of what day it is!) I used to watch All My Children and Dark Shadows. That was way back in the late 60's and very early 70's. But I quit watching them when I had too many babies to take care of and didn't have time to sit still that long uninterrupted. LOL. Right now I like Maine Cabin Masters and Hometown, and we are watching all the reruns of the "What's My Line" program from back in the 50's and 60's. We were both too young to enjoy them or watch them back then, so now they are fun to watch and see all the people from that era. We like to watch them while we eat lunch or supper.
ReplyDeleteI liked Gilda too. I think that is good you have all those televisions - I think without tv it would be hard - just being honest. I used to watch all those soaps too!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You have 5 TV's, I did not expect you to say that and watching TV is not a bad thing. From watching medical lives I think I could try and save someone's life in a crisis. lol I still watch the British soaps operas and love them, most of them are as old as me now.
ReplyDeleteGilda was a gem, Terri, I agree. She passed on way too young. The AI rendition of you as Rosanne Rosannadana is so cool, too!
ReplyDeleteI watched soaps back in the day, General Hospital in its early years and I watched the first episode of All My Children. Then I went back to work and I couldn't watch them, when I retired they had changed so much I didn't like them. I don't watch the anymore either. We have 4 tv's, we also watch a lot of television. Gilda Radner was the best. :))
ReplyDeleteWe have 3 tv's! I used to watch Dark Shadows many decades ago! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to admit, I never watched SNL. Nevertheless, Gilda was so much more than one of the characters she portrayed; what a loss, her premature passing!
ReplyDeleteThese days our big television in the family room is "on" more hours than off, mostly for Tom's benefit. I think it's pretty neat, you having 5!
I love to watch tv too. Loved your answers! Have a nice week!
