With or Without You
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: With or Without You (1987)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) "With or Without You" is about the pain of love. What song reminds you of an old romance? LOL - The theme song from Flashdance! Is it about the joy of love or the pain? It's all about love and is the first song Joe and I danced to.
2) U2 lead singer Bono has admitted that, when the group recorded this song in the 1980s, he was wrestling with his real-life commitment issues. He was trying to resolve the responsibilities of being a husband with the demands of his career. He worked it through, and decades later, both his marriage and his career are still going strong. Do you feel you have been more successful in your personal or professional relationships? Joe and I had been married for almost 36 years when he passed away. We had a great relationship and were still laughing and having fun. I had a great job for 20+ years as the Administrator at Polk Museum of Art. I believe I was successful as the accountant, head of human resources, and supervisor of operations, retail, and visitor services (yes, I wore five hats, but had successful managers who did great work).
3) Bono credits his wife Ali with helping him through a tough period of writer's block, saying she put the pen in his hand each morning. What time of day finds you the most energized, productive, or creative? Morning. I've always been a morning person, but I have realized how nice sleeping in can be, now that I'm retired!
4) Bono likes to pedal around town when he's not onstage. What do you do for exercise? I have been walking in the mornings with three of my neighbors who are also dear friends. We walk every day, but Sunday, and not all of us make it every day, depending on appointments and other commitments. It's great fun, though, and sure is good for us!
5) Bono is U2's lead singer, backed by three very talented bandmates: The Edge, Larry Mullen, Jr., and Adam Clayton. Bruce Springsteen is a big fan of U2's concert performances. If Saturday 9 were to bestow upon you a free ticket to any see any band or performer live, who would you choose? Gosh, I don't know. I like music from the 60s and 70s, and prime country from the 80s. I don't care for crowds now, but I would like to attend The Grand Ole Opry once before I'm too old to get there. Nashville is on my bucket list.
6) U2 got together 50 years ago, when they were schoolboys in Dublin. Have you ever visited Ireland? If not, would you like to go? I have not visited Ireland, but would love to visit there and Scotland. My maiden name is Kelly, but I'm more Scottish (Cameron & Anderson) than Irish. I doubt I will travel to Europe now. Joe and I visited Italy back in 2007 and loved it so much! I will be renewing my passport this summer, though, just in case!! :)
7) In 1987, the year this song was popular, Cher won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her most famous line was, "Snap out of it!" Without looking it up, can you name the movie that made her an Oscar winner? Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies. I have the DVD and have seen it at least a dozen times!
8) Also in 1987, the first Starbucks opened. What's your standard Starbucks order? I'm not a big fan of Starbucks. First, it's WAY too expensive, second, I just like plain old coffee, and third, I don't understand the lingo!!
9) Random question – Which self-help book would you be more likely to pick up, the one designed to improve your body or your mind? If it were a puzzle book, for the mind. At this time in my life, I'm not too excited about self-help books!!
(Verse 4)
To the old rugged cross
I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me someday
To my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

Lol on #8. My mom loves Starbucks and every morning; she goes and gets some flavored coffee. I keep her gift card supplied, lol. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a coffee person period, so no Starbucks, except when it's really hot and I get an iced drink.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing pics of your Italy trip. It really looked amazing.
My books of choice over recent years have been primarily by Christian authors who help me to understand what has happened and how I should respond.
ReplyDeleteStarbucks coffee is waaaay too strong!
I've always been a morning person, too, Terri. I've enjoyed Starbucks coffee in the past when we were traveling, but I only drink coffee at home now. I think I brew a pretty good pot of it - LOL! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am totally a Morning person ... but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a nap after lunch. Love Starbucks coffee pods (Sumatra) but have no desire to step inside one of their shops. We've a couple indy (non-elitist) coffee shops pop up that I'd much rather patronize. (That is, if I went somewhere specifically for coffee, lol.) You remind me, I want to buy a puzzle book; these NYT daily games go by too fast!
ReplyDeleteAt my age I feel I could write a few self-help books LOL. I don't do Starbucks either, for the same reasons. We've been to the opry and it was great, we also spent a few days in Nashville seeing the sights. It was a fun trip, I hope you get to go.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm primarily Scotch-Irish-British, a visit to the Anglo-Celtic Isles is on my wish list. I would only go if it's a private plane for personal reasons, so, that's not gonna happen. Guess I'm going to have to start playing the Lottery. 😂
ReplyDeleteMoonstruck is one of our fav's too. I just wish they had chosen someone other than Cher and Nicolas Cage for the main parts. Those two almost ruined the story for me. There are plenty of real Italian actors that would have done much better, in my never-to-be-humble opinion. 🍀💓
I remember your Italy trip. I have to admit I love the Starbucks Peach Green Tea with water. I am a morning person too Terri.
ReplyDeleteI loved Moonstruck too
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I've ever had a beverage from Starbucks! I'm not a coffee drinker and the other things just seem like lots of calories!
ReplyDeleteAww! What a fun song for you and Joe to dance to. You do sound successful in both your personal and professional life. I hope you get to visit Nashville and I would like to visit Ireland too. I've been to Scotland a few times. I am not a fan of Starbucks either, ordering a drink is so confusing! lol
ReplyDeletefun facts! A trip to Ireland and Scotland sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, some fun facts here! Visiting Scotland and Ireland, wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI feel more energized once I’ve been up awhile. Mornings aren’t my time to shine but I can enjoy them . I just like time to wake up , slowly sip coffee. Once I get going I’m fine. I saw a beautiful sunrise over the ocean on our Florida trip. Glad I got up for that
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves coffee shops. Her husband has an extra job that he works part time at Starbucks. Our grandson Oliver used to call it Starbucks house. I like their blonde roast the best because it’s milder. I don’t really like my coffee to taste like desert but occasionally I do order a chocolate latte. Regular coffee is the best
I remember touring the art museum with you the first time we visited in Lakeland. Always thought that was such a cool job! I recall seeing the gala pictures of you and Joe all dressed up. What a beautiful couple !
