Lakeland came through Debby with little damage and only a few people without power. My work, which is a public use area (not a state park) is former phosphate mining property so there are lots of lakes (former mine pits) and lots of low-lying areas. As mentioned earlier this week, I didn't go to work on Monday because they told me my car wouldn't make it through the road with nearly a foot of water over it. I was happy to have the day off at home.
On Tuesday, I snapped some quick photos from my car. They aren't great but are all I have to offer today...
A swampy mess... there is usually no water on this spot.
I've had a good week and hope you have as well. Wednesday, my boss and his wife invited me to eat out with them at Ling's Chinese Buffet. We had a good time and the food was also good. Last night, the Mas Verde group went to Mellow Mushroom. There were seven of us and the food was quite good there, too. None of us had been there since before covid.
I have nothing going on after work today. Tomorrow, Saturday, is my friend Judy's memorial service at Resurrection Catholic. That's around 10:30 to noon. I'm a greeter at my church on Sunday.
Big announcement!!! I turned in my letter of resignation, effective September 5th. It's time for me to retire again and I am so blessed to be able to manage that now. The guys at work have been sweet. One said they didn't get to vote on it so I can't retire. Another said they would change the locks and keep me prisoner (but would get my cats to join me). So nice to feel appreciated but it is time. I'm sad but happy for a new chapter. My son, Joey, said I am going back to six Saturdays and one Sunday. Indeed!!

That was a lot of rain!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your retirement. It will be here before you know it and I know those guys will really miss you. Retirement is on the horizon for me too, just haven't decided exactly when.
I'm SO happy you are retiring even though you loved this job. You can always go back and visit...that's such a great place to spend time. We didn't have any damage of even any standing water here so that was good. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhaaaat?!?! Yippee! I'm so happy for you, Terri. That verse (and song) is one of my favorites; so appropriate.
ReplyDeleteOur Mellow Mushroom closed about a year ago. I miss it, but not so much I'm willing to drive into Montgomery. Happy Friday!
Blessed retirement!!! I know you will be so missed by those great folks at work, but you've certainly earned your rest time, Terri. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYIPPEE - you are finally able to retire comfortably. Six Saturdays and a Sunday. You will be missed.
ReplyDeleteThat was a heck of a lot of water.
The lizard would scare me.
Sandie♥
Congrats.. I am so happy for you... the life of leisure !! :)
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad you got through that storm safely - definitely a lot of water! And yay for being able to retire again. I'm sure you enjoy the job but having only Saturdays and Sunday is a lot more fun.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend, Judy. But I'm so happy you'll be retiring again in a couple of weeks. Glad God brought you safely through the storms earlier this week and even more happy that God made it so you can retire. You deserve it. Love Joey's idea of 6 Saturdays and one Sunday! Have a great rest of your weekend Terri.
ReplyDeleteI somehow missed this post last week, and when I just read your Monday post and you said you weren't going back to work after Sept. 5th, I was shocked! Wow! I am so happy for you, Terri! I am so glad that things have worked out for you to be able to do this now. But what will you do with all you extra "Saturdays"???? LOL. You may have to come up to the north central Florida country and visit with all of us friends up in this area. That would be fun!!! Oh, wow, on all those pictures of the standing water after the storm! You really did have a lot of water around your area! That one house, yikes! I hope those folks have a plan on how to keep that "pond" from developing under their house! I thought MY pond was close! LOL. Oh, Terri, I am so happy for you I could shout Hallelujah!! Praise God!
