What's Cooking?
Welcome, welcome. It's good to have you back for another visit. I hope you are keeping well and are up for another of Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 questions.
Could we discuss cooking and kitchens today?
1. How did you learn to cook? My mom taught me to cook and the first thing I ever made, with her standing beside me, was scrambled eggs.
2. Do you have a favorite cookbook? Yes, my mom's Methodist Church cookbook, and my old church's cookbook. I use them both more often than any famous chef cookbook.
3. What is your cooking specialty? I grew up on mid-western meat and potatoes cooking but married into an Italian family and quickly learned some Italian dishes.
4. Is your kitchen well suited for you and if not how would you improve it? I LOVE my kitchen here. It is large (eat-in) and the best thing is a walk-in pantry, plus tons of cupboards and counter space.

My mom taught me too. I agree that church cookbooks are the best, but I also have a Betty Crocker cookbook that's so good for basics. I got it as a shower gift from my mom before I was married, so it's about 43 years old now. My kitchen is small but works for me.
ReplyDeleteI know you cook with love, whether it's meat and potatoes or Italian food, and that's the most important!
I have that red plaid Betty Crocker cookbook too!
DeleteYour kitchen is so great. Was that one of the 'deciding' factors when y'all looked in Mas Verde?
ReplyDeleteI think those old church cookbooks make interesting reading; I still remember some of the ladies' names from my mother's congregation! Points of pride.
You do have a wonderful kitchen and it's been my privilege to eat there with you!
ReplyDeleteYou (and Gary) are welcome anytime!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to come visit your kitchen and sit at your table sometime. You do put on such wonderful looking meals! You grew up on the same kind of food as I did. My mother was raised in Ohio on meat and potatoes too. Good basic food, and she always stressed having something from all the basic food groups. I also have a Betty Crocker cookbook in addition to my BH &G cookbook. I use them both intermittently, but the BH&G is my standard since it is what my mother used. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have you and John for a visit!! Bring Rose and Ben too. I have room!
DeleteThe church cookbooks are always good ones! I have a church one in my kitchen also. Loved your answers! Have a nice week. ♥

Your walk-in pantry sounds great. My kitchen is not that large. My husband does most of our cooking and likes our kitchen so far.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Thanks for the questions/answers.
ReplyDeleteIt's very nice to have your mother teaching you to cook and giving you all these family supplies.
He teaches me the traditional recipes even now since he used to work a lot! I also made an attempt at answers
I think recipes from church cookbooks are a sure hit.
