Rocket Man
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: Rocket Man (1972)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Elton John tells us he's taking off for outer space at 9:00 AM. What will you be doing at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning? Tomorrow, at 9:00, I will be pulling into the church parking lot. Sunday school starts at 9:15.
2) He sings that even though he uses it for his astronaut job, he doesn't understand science. Was science one of your better classes in school? I loved biology and got all As but did not like chemistry and ended it with a C.
3) Lyricist Bernie Taupin recalls writing the first verse of "Rocket Man" while stuck in traffic as he tried to make his way to his parents' home. Have you recently been stuck in traffic? If yes, where were you headed? No, I have not been stuck in traffic in a while. That happens in Orlando and Tampa but rarely in Lakeland.
4) Thinking of cars ... Nigel Olsson, who plays drums and sings back-up on "Rocket Man," is a self-proclaimed "race car fanatic." What hobby are you passionate about? My "hobby" lately has been streaming British TV shows on TV. Sad, isn't it.
5) Davey Johnstone, who plays guitar on "Rocket Man," recently posted on Facebook that he was thrilled to meet Joni Mitchell. Are you on Facebook? Instagram? Twitter? Pinterest? Tik Tok? I am on Facebook and Pinterest.
6) Elton John once played charades with Bob Dylan. But only once. Elton laughingly says he can't get over how "hopeless" Dylan was at the game. What's the last game you played? Did you win? I play solitaire and sudoku on my phone but the last time I played a board game with other people was when Danon, Mali, and Monika came to dinner a few months ago.
7) In 1972, when this song was popular, Winnie the Pooh was on the cover of the Sears Christmas Wish Book. That year, kids asked Santa for plush Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore. Did you have many plush toys as a child? If yes, do you still have any of them? No, I don't remember having stuffed animals and I don't have any toys left from my childhood. I had two younger sisters and anything worth passing on went to them.
8) Also in 1972, TV cowboy Dan Blocker died. He played the middle brother, "Hoss," on Bonanza. Do you enjoy watching Westerns? I loved Bonanza and had a bit of a crush on Hoss.
9) Random question: What inspires you? Life, faith, love, family, friends...

Peace and Hugs!
I can feel His hand in mine
That's all I need to know.

I liked Hoss too, but I think I thought Little Joe was cuter. LOL. We didn't have many stuffed animal toys back when we were kids. They weren't that popular then, except for maybe a Teddy Bear. I don't really recall even having one of those! But I have one now! LOL. We haven't played any board games in a while either. I play Wordle, Connections, and Strands on my cell phone, all NYT times games. They are fun and good brain challenges. I've never been very good at Sukuko. Hope you have a blessed and pleasant and peaceful weekend.
ReplyDeleteSunday School starts early! Ours is at 10 am, services at 11 am. Tomorrow is Communion Sunday. Our Church keeps this tradition every month. I always look forward to that.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with your TV hobby. We have the same one. *giggle*
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Love 💙
Our SS starts at 9, church at 10:15.
ReplyDeleteI liked Bonanza too. I recently was watching an old Little House episode and there was someone on there that looked just like Dan Blocker. I looked it up and it was his son.
I like board games, but Bob doesn't so it's not something I do often.
Another fan of Bonanza! I didn't like anyone in particular but wanted to live there on the Ponderosa. Traffic, ugh! Normally here in the sticks (lol) that's not an issue, but today we got held up on our way to a wedding and I was sweating putty balls. (Came screeching in with 5 minutes to spare, only to find out it was postponed an hour!)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a blessed SONday!
What inspires you, Terri, does the same for me. My memories of Bonanza are only from any reruns I've seen because my parents wouldn't let us stay up late on school nights, but I did know who the stars were, for sure!
ReplyDeletePlease keep praying for Danny, too. After getting examined by his eye doctor on Friday for an anomaly in his right eye, he is back in the hospital for tests and observations, making sure he isn't at risk for any strokes, as what happened in his eye. I hope he will be back home and well by Tuesday.
Love and blessings always!
Hi Terri! No church for me this week. I don't want to share this lovely virus. I am feeling a bit better today as the z-pack seems to be working, but there are too many people with fragile health at church. Bonanza was a favorite of mine, too, but it was Little Joe that was my crush. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think most of us liked Bonanza
ReplyDeleteHi Terri: I just dropped by to say Hello and I like your Background.
ReplyDeleteI loved Elton John so I really enjoyed your post today! I remember watching Bonanza as a family. It was a good show :-).
