Wednesday's Hodgepodge...

Thank you, Joyce, for today's Hodgepodge!  Y'all can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 449

1. January 25th is National Opposites Day. 'They' say opposites attract...do you agree, and if so is that a good thing? Or do you subscribe more to a 'birds of a feather" philosophy?  When we first met, Joe and I were more opposites than the same but over the years I think he mellowed a bit and I got braver!  I think it just depends on the people and the circumstances.

2. Something you're glad to have behind you? Something you're glad is ahead of you?  I don't want it to be taken the wrong way, but I am glad to have gotten through (almost) my first year without Joe.  I'm doing okay and I am glad to have life and (hopefully) more fun and adventures ahead.  (I still miss him something awful.)

3. Your favorite hot food?  Hot, as in spicy?  Anything with jalapenos and/or hot sauce.  Hot as in temperature... if it is supposed to be hot, then I like it hot! LOL  Cold food?  Is ice cream a food?  Are you a fan of breakfast for dinner? Yes!

4. Are you someone who always arrives at appointments/events early or do you tend to run late?  I am usually early.  Last thing you were late for?  Can't remember.  I am just always early - sometimes too early.

5. "What good is the warmth of summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?" John Steinbeck...Your thoughts?  I live in Florida.  I don't need cold temps to make me like the heat!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  My small group from church is starting a study of C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters.  I am not a fan and am not looking forward to this. I hope the conversation changes my attitude.  I'm off to join them in about a half-hour (doing this before I leave in case I don't have time when I get home).  Have any of you read the book?  Your thoughts?

Peace & hugs!
God is in Control!

  1. I read Screwtape Letters (portions of it, anyway) some 30 or 40 years ago. I found it interesting but the reader has to adjust their thinking to understand who is speaking and what they are getting at. I might appreciate it more now, since I'm older.

    1. Had to chuckle…older Barbara is to me an oxymoron…you seem so young…

  2. His books are good…not sure I would want a lengthy study…

  3. I did read Screwtape years ago, Terri, and it really isn't one of my favorites, although there is lots of wisdom to be gleaned from it. My favorite Christian apology book by Lewis is Mere Christianity. Just thinking about it makes me want to read it again.
    Blessings!

    1. I will check that one out and perhaps suggest it for next time. There are 32 letters to get through, however.

  4. Ice cream is a food err food group, just like pizza, grin. No, I haven't read that. I hope you have a beautiful day, smiles.

  5. We did a bible study with Lewis but it was so long ago I have forgotten which book. It was good. We got together at 7am before work! I sure remember that!

  6. We did that in our Sunday School Class a couple of years ago. I hated it! I did the homework and read about it - - found out it was the most difficult book C.S. Lewis wrote because he had to think negatively - - opposite thoughts to Christianity. However I did learn some ways in which Satan does distract us from our focus and disciplines in our Christian life.

  7. I've not heard of that Lewis book; gosh, I hope no-one suggests it!
I can't remember ever having been late. That's one of my (pathological) fears. Usually I plan to arrive early and hang out (ie, lurk) in a nearby parking lot -- like I did when coming to see you and Joe. Remind me to bring you some fresh Hatch chile next time!

  8. Not a fan of C.S. Lewis and the Screwtape Letters is too creepy for me. I would have to pass on that class. *wink*
I've been putting a little bit of tabasco in some of my foods. NEVER used to spice up my food. I like it.
Keep looking up! I feel like the Rapture is close!
    Love & Blessings. xx

  9. Love your answers. I have not read that book. I did not hear very good reviews on it and, at this age, I only read what I know I am going to like. No longer do I plow through a book just because I started it.

Hope you have a nice group meeting anyway. xo Diana

  10. I didn't really care for the Screwtape Letters. Actually, I find a lot of his writing sort of strange and really odd. I think he sometimes went too far with the wild imagery and the scriptual truth got kind of lost or buried.

  11. Not read that book and not sure it's something I would want to read but I hope you had a good time with your study group.

  12. I haven't read the Screwtape Letters, and hearing what everyone says above, I doubt that I would. I guess I don't feel like challenging my brain that much at this stage in life. LOL. Oh, I wanted to tell you that I think it was you who said you enjoyed that program, Escape to the Chateau? We started watching that this week, and I was surprised that even John is enjoying it! Thanks for the idea. We had run out of Perr Mason and needed something new to watch together. LOL. Quite different from Perry mason. LOL. I hope you will enjoy your group study just because you are with a group of people. Sometimes that makes things much better and you can encourage each other in the process.

  13. I've read it and it certainly wasn't a favorite, but it may be more enjoyable when studying it as a group.
Hard to believe it's almost been a year since Joe went home to Jesus. I know you still miss him like crazy, but as I've said before, I know he would be so proud of you!

  14. I have not read C.S Lewis. I think I wouldn't enjoy it. I like those quotes that people pull out for me. Hopefully, your group will see it as we do and ditch it early. Nothing wrong with that!!!
I would imagine just knowing you have made it through all the firsts is a kind of relief. You know you have to live here without him. It doesn't make him any less missed but we do have to keep moving forward. Take care. I agree with others he would be proud of you.

  15. I enjoyed your answers and I don't think your answer to glad what's behind you could be taken wrong. It's totally understandable. Hugs to you.
