A Flowery October Hodgepodge...

Thank you, Joyce, for this week's Hodgepodge questions!  Joyce comes up with the questions, we come up with the answers and then link in to share with other Hodgepodgers!

1. It's October so let's get this out there first thing...have you jumped on the all-things-pumpkin bandwagon? How so?  I'm not much into pumpkin. One piece of pie for Thanksgiving is about my limit.

2.  "We have more power than will; and it is often by way of excuse to ourselves that we fancy things are impossible." Francois Duc De la Rochefoucauld

What's something you once thought impossible, but in hindsight see as more a matter of lack of will?  I truly believe nothing is impossible if you put your entire self into it.  Lack of will is usually my 'excuse' however. I'm just lazy when it comes to most things. Lazy and unmotivated....learning to play the piano comes to mind.

3. The rose is America's National Flower, but every state also has its own (click here to see the list). Are you happy with yours? If you were in charge what would you declare your state's flower? If you're outside the U.S. what bloom would you like to see labeled as your country's national flower?  The orange blossom is Florida's flower and I can't think of a better one for this great citrus state.  The red carnation is Ohio's flower, and I think that is fitting as well.  I'm not a flower person, though, because strong floral scents give me migraine headaches.  I've even told a few folks that I don't want flowers at my funeral because I don't want to spend eternity with a migraine! (winking with a giggle)

4. What have you lost interest in recently? Dancing With The Stars and actually most of the reality shows. I don't even enjoy Cake Boss anymore and I used to be in the business!

5. In your opinion, who's the best living musician?  All of the ones I think of are dead. I am not "into" pop music of today since I listen to the "oldies" in the car and at work.  I also don't know if this means someone playing an instrument  only, or someone who also writes music and or sings, then there is the genre to consider. Loaded question and I don't have an answer (obviously). Will look forward to seeing who others have chosen! I'm sure I'll agree (or will shake my head and wonder who the heck it is)!

6. S'mores-love 'em or no?  Don't love them, but will participate. Ever make them indoors? Yes, the last one I had was done indoors. Last time you sat around an outdoor fire?  I can't even remember since it had to be more than 30 years ago.  Are making s'mores and sitting round a fire pit on your autumn bucket list?  Nope. I live in Florida and we don't have a fire pit or a fireplace. Do you have an autumn bucket list?  Nope.

7. Your favorite small town?  Millersport, Ohio. Why?  That is where I grew up, went to school, made friends, loved my family, marched in the band, built tree houses, laid in the sun on the roof of the garage, rode my bike, learned to drive, etc., etc., etc. It is also where my parents, grandparents and my brother are buried. A piece of my heart will always live there.  I'm still a small-town girl.  Millersport is at the west end of Buckeye Lake, just a little south of dead-center in the State of Ohio.  I worked for two summers at Weldon's Ice Cream Factory - a landmark and local favorite, right on the lake.  My piano teacher (Mrs. Weldon) lived on the second floor and that is where I took piano lessons (that I did not stick with nor excel at).

8. Insert your own random thought here.  Not so random (ever) but I am still so happy about the news I received about my friend Karen.  I am excited and looking forward to having our son and daughter-in-law visit this weekend.  I am really excited that we are beginning to plan our next family reunion beach vacation - this time at Folly Beach, SC!!  Hoping to meet one of my blogging friends while we are there....you know who you are!  Our week will be June 18-25.

Thanks for your visit today!  I love Hodgepodge Wednesdays!  Peace & hugs!

  2. What a neat hometown and sweet memories made there! I have issues with some flowers, too....especially, lilacs sometimes....and carnations....mostly because they do remind me of a funeral! ;-) HOPE you and Mr. Joe are both feeling much better....just in time to enjoy the weekend with family.

  3. Looks like you grew up right in the middle of Ohio! My husband lived in Perrysburg, which is close to Toledo so I have visited there. Some cute little towns around there too.

Hope you both are feeling better

  5. I agree with you about playing the piano. I took lessons as a kid and have always had a piano in my home. I do today. But I rarely sit and play it - and I have no excuses.

  6. Great comeback on the flower question. No migraines for all of eternity. You're sense of humor tickles me and is a gift to all who know you.

  7. Terri, you will never convince me that you're lazy! Not being motivated has its reasons, and I would see that as a possibility, depending upon what it is. :-) If you need another show to try, try PBS's The Great British Baking Show. It is so much fun and is the only show of that type that I watch at all. My favorite musicians are all dead too, like a few centuries ago.

    Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  8. Wow! You sure are planning ahead for your next family vacation. That's good news about Karen. Millersport sounds like a nice little town. I like Maysville, Kentucky on the Ohio River for a small town. Every time I see the theatre there, I think of my mother going to the movies there.

  9. Well I am partial to lake towns so love your answer. I can handle the flower scent if it's actually from flowers. I'm not a fan of artificial floral scents.

  10. Hopefully you got to have ice cream as a reward after the piano lesson. Small towns are the best, and I'm blessed to still live in the one in which I grew up. We did many of the same things you listed!

    1. Yes. I owned and was the sole operator of "The Wedding Cake" here in Lakeland. I did it for 4 years. It wore me out. I'll have to blog about it again. It's been a few years.

  16. I'm not the biggest fan of pumpkin either, but their is a place near us that makes pumpkin donuts. They are so good they're dangerous!
Our flower is the apple blossom, which is very fitting because of all the apples we grow.

  17. I'm fine with pumpkin but not enthusiastic about it. I agree that question #5 was really too broad to be able to answer. I have a friend who's a baker. When I retired he made a humongous whoopie pie (moon pie?) ! It was about 10 inches in diameter. I love whoopie pies! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  18. I love pumpkin everything! Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes, even pumpkin seeds!!

Have you ever watched The Voice? Dick and I and some of our kids just love it. It's not unusual for Jeremy and I and maybe Lisa to be calling and texting back and forth during the show.

My favorite small town is probably Manheim, PA where I grew up.
