Happy New Year Hodgepodge!!

Joyce is starting off the new year with a great Hodgepodge!  You can join the fun by going HERE!!

.
1. Times Square is the setting for the infamous ball drop signaling a brand new year....when did you last 'drop the ball' on something?  I dropped the ball on my low carb diet that I started back in October and then blew it when my birthday came, followed by Christmas. Dropped it BIG TIME.

2. What is one thing you resolved to do in 2013 that you actually did?  I don't make resolutions and can't really think of anything that I consciously resolved to do.  I DID finally go to a different orthopedic doctor about my knees, and am happy I did (but that wasn't a resolution).

3. Jack London is quoted as saying, "You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." Agree or disagree? Why?  I think I disagree. Inspiration has always 'just come' to me and I'm not sure I would agree that you actually have to go looking for inspiration 'with a club'.  If you are a photographer or artist, you might go 'out' somewhere looking for inspiration - but probably not with a club (so to speak).  In my experience, when you are looking for something too hard, you never find it.  Maybe if someone came after me with a club, I would be inspired to run faster!! LOL

4. What was the best thing you ate in 2013?  Now food... I can talk about food! LOL  I had some absolutely delicious sea scallops that were huge and prepared perfectly at a little restaurant called Guppy's, at Indian Rocks Beach (on the Gulf). Amazing. But that wasn't in 2013. We ate good in 2013, at restaurants in Naples, FL, Savannah, GA, and many here in Lakeland, FL. I can't think of one meal, though, that stood out, like those scallops at Guppy's. We are blessed, and eat out too often and too well.

5.  Share an anti-resolution...that is, something you plan to keep on doing in the new year.  I will just keep on keeping on.  Work, home, friends, family, church, blogging....not anticipating any changes in 2014.

6. The Pantone color of the year for 2014 is radiant orchid.  Like or no like? Would I find this color anywhere in your home or wardrobe? Will you add something in this shade to either?  Purple is my favorite color, but I don't have it in our home.  My room growing up, was lavender, though. I think my dad privately shuddered when I told him that is the color I wanted, but he painted it for me.  I wear purple occasionally, but don't have a lot of it in the closet.  Isn't it pretty, though!! I may have to find a blouse in that shade....

7. In three words or less sum up your 2013?  Happy and blessed.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  I am actually looking forward to getting back on my low carb diet. I have been SO bad, since my birthday.  Too much temptation and no will power.  I'm actually tired of the cookies and candy and cake and pie and rich foods. See question #1.

I hope you all welcomed 2014 with love in your hearts and with thanksgiving for a new year ahead. I wish God's blessings on you and your families, and you can count on being in my daily prayers.

Peace, love & hugs!!

  1. You always inspire me to be happy, when I am down. I come to your blog and you have something to be thankful for, or happy about, and it lifts my spirits. I know 2014 will be the same and I look forward to coming here every morning. (Help, I sent you email about a problem.)

  3. Number 2 was a necessary and good decision on your part. When I think of inspiration I always think of the quote about success, and I hope 2014 is a successful year for everyone. Your hodgepodge is a good way to start the new year!

  4. Don't beat yourself up about falling off the diet wagon. Everything I read about that says to get right back on track - - - even that day. I like your hodgepodge stuff cuz we learn more about you. One thing I need to learn in 2014 is how to change my background as easily as you and others seem to do!

  7. I think we can all safely say we 'dropped the ball', lately, where our diets are concerned ;) Nothing to do, now, but get back to the 'old diet grind' Ugh! No fun.

Have a Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to more of your posts :)

  8. I'm curious about your low carb diet. Do you just cut out breads and desserts? I'm ready to make a life change... and I'm wondering what will work best.

    1. Marla, I cut out all grains and sugars and eat mostly protein (meat), dairy (lots of cheese), and only vegetables that grow above the ground (mostly green things...easy on corn and beans). Fruits are okay now and then, limited to berries and citrus though. It's not hard for me to do, but I miss pasta and rice. I will treat myself on the weekend to pasta, rice or potatoes, so look forward to that.

  9. I do low carb, but sugar is the thing I've really had too much of this holiday season. I will have to go cold turkey...I can't have 'just a little' : ) Happy 2014!

  11. That diet thing is the hardest to keep. There's been so many balls dropped on that, I'm surprised we haven't felt the earth tremble. hahaha (that includes me too)
I love your answer to #3... I agree if we have to look hard, we probably won't find it. And not with a club.
I think you would look good in purple with your hair and complexion.
Wishing you and Joe a blessed new year.

  12. Ah, purple. That's one color I don't like. And it's a very shallow reason why so I won't go into it. LOL AND, I dropped the same dang ball. I've dropped it about 5 times now. Sigh.
