First Monday Quiz About Me, for 2014

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me - hosted by Acting Balanced.  We are continuing to answer questions together.

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own, for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four standard questions you answered!

Here are my answers, and my question for you:

1. It's National Hobby Month - will you be starting a new hobby or just keeping up with current ones?  What are your hobbies? No new hobbies! I can't keep up with the ones I enjoy, now.  I like to make jewelry, I spend way too much time on the computer, I love to read, and I love art and doing crafts.  Goodness, that's enough!

2. January 6th is Bean Day - what is your favorite bean?  Bean recipes to share?  I do like beans, and especially black beans.  There is a recipe for a black bean and orzo salad behind my recipe tab, if you want to go there and take a look.

3. Wayne got a question from a student yesterday... and we'd love your input - "I just got good news - I got a promotion into management - the problem now is that that I've moved to a salary position after working hourly.  I used to get paid for overtime so now I make less money - what should I do?"  Welcome to the world of the salaried! When you compute an hourly wage for those of us who have salaries, it comes out to around $2.75 an hour.  The student who asked the question should have considered the move s/he was making before accepting the job. The choice was made....live with it, or move on! Lesson learned.  The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

4. Have you ever bought a gift that you regretted giving later?  When our grandson was around three years old, we gave him a 'saxaphone' for Christmas. Push a button and an ungodly song blared out - he loved it and thought is was funny. The saxaphone had to be put away for awhile, and we still hear about how it should have been left behind at Grandma's house! LOL

5. My question for you....  I am home from work today, nursing a cold that started last week. I am beating it back, but didn't sleep well last night. What is your go-to remedy for a cold/virus?

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!! Peace, love & hugs.

  2. Liquids of course, and I use Dayquil and Nyquil plus Zinc lozenges, which will dry the drippy nose. Maybe a warm water vaporizer or Vicks rub on your chest. Old wives tale - rub Vicks on the bottom of your feet and put on socks. Sleep in them. My children swear by that...lol

  3. On the page where ai got my new reucipe for homemade detergent (practicallyfunctional.com), she has posted, a recipe for a detox bath that would do you and everyone a world of good. I'm going to try it tonight. Just put 'detox bath' in the search box. I also like Vicks rubbed on the bottom of my feet (I always wear socks to bed in the winter) like Linda mentioned and extra Vitamin C. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

  4. Rest and sleep. I also take Zicam... Usually at the first symptom. I also take Emergen-C.

    Feel better!

I can't take antibiotics so I tend to stay out of crowds as much as possible at this time of year.

    Feel better...

  7. Take aspirin or advil every 8 hours. It worked for me and even my husband and daughter have come to believe in it. Take it for en extra day when you start to feel better.

  8. Thanks, everyone. I use ZiCam, take extra vitamins, but can't take aspirin or advil because I am on blood thinners - only Tylenol. I am feeling better and just hope I sleep tonight! DayQuil and Mucinex seem to be keeping it out of my chest, which is a good thing.

  10. I enjoyed the questions and answers.
For the cold: rest, liquids, Cold-Eeze with Zinc, gargling with warm salty water. Works everytime. I'm very susceptible to upper respiratories and have battled these all my life. Cold-Eeze throat lozanges are the best thing since sliced bread. GET WELL SOON! Prayers for healing from SE Georgia. Stay warm! ~:)

  12. Get well soon; I agree with Sparky that Cold Eze lozenges are wonderful. Wishing you many blessings in the new year.
I once gave my niece Christmas lights for the tree that played Christmas carols = her parents still tease me about that!

  13. Chicken Soup - - for real. It has been proven to help. Drink and eat (lots of protein) as often as you can and then some. The fluids will flush your system and the protein helps you heal. Gargle as they said and use saline in your nose. You don't have to spray it - - - just swab with a Q-Tip. Sleep as much as possible, too. Do absolutely nothing for at least an entire day. Don't get active again too soon or you can relapse. Citrus juices or a bit of lemon juice in water will help cut the mucus. Avoid dairy. Feel better soon.

  14. It's nice to meet you Terri. Knock on wood...I don't get sick often, but on the rare occasions that I do come down with some sort of nasty chicken soup is definitely a winner and NyQuil is excellent for helping me to sleep. My daughter has been taking Emergen-C and swears by it. She would get colds frequently in the cooler months, but since taking she hasn't caught a cold in a few years. I think she said she drinks it once per/week and that does the trick for her. I guess, if you find something that works for you like she has then it's best to stick with it. Good luck & I hope you feel well again soon!

  15. Had to laugh at the 4th answer for you. Which reminds me of a keyboard we bought our daughter...oh the "NOISE" it made.

As for YOUR question for us...For colds and fighting them...I tend to drink a special blend of juices that fights off colds BEFORE they get to me. It's in the 'natural' refrigerator aisle in the stores. I can't recall the brand name but it's chocked full of mango, orange, kiwi, strawberry, etc.
