June 16th: The Tuesday 4

Thanks to our hostess, Annie, for today's four questions!  Join the fun by clicking HERE!

Our Town

Hello!  This is Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4, where we ask just 4 questions each week to get you blogging, thinking, and learning about others.

Let's discuss the town you live in.  It might be nice to find out more about where you live and why you live there. Sometimes we just fall into a place and other times we \choose.
Here's a chance to sing the praises of your town or uncover its faults. Have at it!

1. What are the good points of living in your town?  My regular readers know how much I love Lakeland!  I think it's the best place to live in all of Florida!  Could you interest us in moving there?  I try, all the time, to interest friends and family in moving here!  Lakeland is an hour from the Gulf beaches, 45 minutes from Disney World/Orlando, 30 minutes from Tampa, and our weather is near perfect for 9 months of the year!

2.  Are the things you need convenient to your home?   (shopping, library, schools, entertainment)?  Yes, to all of that!

3.  Did you choose your town, or did you just end up there?  Joe and I chose Lakeland, though we often said we were led here.  Next month marks 37 years in Lakeland!!  I've lived here longer than any other place in my nearly 75 years.

4.   Is your town known for any special foods, activities, places, or people?   We have many wonderful restaurants.  Whatever you might be hungry for is just around the corner.  Cuban, BBQ, and Mexican/TexMex are prevalent.  We also have Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, good ol' American, every fast food place, and pizza on every corner.  We have 32 named lakes inside the city limits; we have swans that have royal blood; Elvis signed his name in the dressing room of The Polk Theater when he did a concert here; the Lake Mirror Promenade is named for singer and actress Francis Langford; Edward Sissorhands was partially filmed here (the beauty shop scenes); George Jones and Tammy Wynette lived here when they were married (I can point out their house!); we have the largest collection, in one place, of Frank Llyod Wright buildings on the Florida Southern College campus; our parks and public spaces are beyond beautiful, and the Publix Supermarket headquarters is here in town...  I could keep going!  I love Lakeland!

Peace and Hugs!  I'm baking bread this morning!!

  1. You convinced me a long time ago that Lakeland is a great place to live. I would be so happy with almost perfect weather for 9 months of the year. It sounds like Lakeland has it all, I can see why you are so happy there!

  5. I do believe that Lakeland is one of the better cities to live in in the state of Florida! You have convinced me of that! And also because YOU are there! However, that being said, I don't see us moving there any time soon, but I do hope we will get to visit one of these days. You should be on the Chamber of Commerce for Lakeland! LOL>

  7. I do love Lakeland! You're baking bread?? Tell me more! I used to bake bread years ago. And then of course I bake bread and other things when I go to the baking class at church. But I gain weight every time I go to that class because he sends us home with the stuff we bake, hahaha!

  8. Not for the first time, I've wished R and I considered Lakeland when we moved to Tampa. Well, that's all water under the bridge, so they say. Had things been different, my life wouldn't resemble what it is today. Now, I'm blessed to have seen it ... and look forward to returning some day!

  9. You certainly make Lakeland sound like a beautiful and exciting place to live, Terri. I know I just couldn't tolerate that kind of heat and humidity, though. Looking forward to hearing more about your bread-making adventures, too. Blessings!
