June 17th: The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 658

From this Side of the Pond

1. June 17th, 1994, was the day of the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase. What were you doing in 1994? I'm guessing somebody is going to tell me they weren't born yet, but that's part of the fun of the Hodgepodge. Lots of generations are represented here.  In 1994, I was the Business Manager at Lakeland's Santa Fe Catholic High School.  And I do remember watching OJ driving that white SUV and being followed by the police.  Joe and I were so disappointed in him.  Crazy stuff!

2. What's your favorite summer salad that isn't the traditional tossed green lettuce kind of salad? Do you like fresh fruit in a salad (other than in a fruit salad, of course)?   We used to have a restaurant called "Crispers" and they had lots of salads and fresh sandwiches.  I LOVED their Summer Salad, which was greens, feta cheese, celery, carrots, and strawberries.  It had a light balsamic dressing and was delicious!  Since that is considered a green salad, I guess I would go with a macaroni/pasta salad with a creamy dressing.

3. Is chivalry dead? Should it be?  I don't think young people today understand the concept of chivalry, but they should be taught respect and common caring.  If it's gone, bring it back!

4. Would you rather spend a week of your summer vacation in Hawaii or Alaska? Have you ever been to either? Are they two places you really would like to see? How do you feel about 'Hawaiian pizza,' aka pineapple on a pizza? Have you ever eaten Baked Alaska?   I really don't care about seeing either Hawaii or Alaska.  If I have to choose, I'll go with Alaska.  I don't care for pineapple on pizza.  I have had Baked Alaska a time or two.  Not excited about it.

5. World Cup play is happening now...are you interested?  Nope.  Watching any matches?  Nope.  Did you or your children play soccer/futbol?  Jeff played soccer with a local community team when he was in high school.  He also played indoor soccer at one time.  There are eleven US cities hosting matches-

-Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York with the stadium in NJ, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle

along with  three cities in Mexico (Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey)
and two in Canada (Toronto and Vancouver)-

You get free tickets to one of these matches. Which city do you choose? Tell us why.  I would choose Boston.  I've always wanted to go there for the history (not the soccer!).

6. Insert your own random thought here.  The bread-baking class yesterday was a good time.  Not really what I was expecting, but it was a fun time.  I have pictures to post on Friday, but I will share this one that Susan took of me and my empty plate.

Peace and Hugs!!

Acts 2:46  Every day they continued to meet together
in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and
ate together with glad and sincere hearts

  1. Boston is really a beautiful place...so much to do. We took a water taxi across the harbor to go to Quincy Market...anyways, wishing you a lovely day my friend.

  2. I've been to Boston and enjoyed seeing it, but have no desire to go back. I'd pick Alaska over Hawaii too, the more remote the better. I want to see the stuff they don't do on those fancy tours. I remember our Scott playing soccer when he was really little...he was pretty much bored with it. He did better at Little League. And yes, I like fresh fruit in salads, apples, strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, walnuts and pecans, craisins (they aren't fresh, but you know what I mean). And yes, I remember OJ and still believe he was guilty.
I can't wait to hear more about your bread baking! Have a lovely day.

  3. I enjoyed Boston and there's a lot to see there. I love the coast heading north from there even more. A bread baking class sounds like fun. There's nothing like warm bread with butter and that's probably why I don't need to be baking my own : )

  4. The OJ drama was crazy, I was around 14 years old and I even thought that at the time.
    That summer salad sounds good.
I am glad you had fun at the bread baking class.

  7. I remember being so disappointed in OJ, I was a tomboy when I was younger (five brothers will do that), and I wanted the OJ Simpson doll, I think it came with weights, and I loved lifting weights with my brothers...anyway, he was definitely guilty. I love fruit in my salads too. I would pick Hawaii, we were supposed to go there at the end of March 2020, and that fell through and we never ended up going. I've been to Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto. I think I'd choose Vancouver! Not for the soccer, for the scenery and to visit friends!I love that you baked bread, how fun! It is too good, I cannot let myself bake it! When I had a houseful of kids, no problem, they'd help eat it, but now...ugh, I'd eat it all myself.

  9. Disappointment, yes! It doesn't seem so long ago, O.J. was really admired.
I've had Baked Alaska before, but like Bananas Foster, I found it under-whelming. More show, less taste.
Didn't we go to Crispers? That was delicious!

  11. I would go to Boston too, because both of my sister's kids live there, and my sister and her husband live just across the state border in New Hampshire. Before she was married she lived in Gloucester, and when we sisters had a long weekend with her we took a train to Boston for the day. Such a fun day.
