Hmmmmm... It's the "official" first day of summer. Here in Florida, it has felt like summer since mid-May, so perhaps we will just applaud the longer days for now. It isn't even dusk here until nearly 9:00 p.m.
I had a great lunch with Shirley on Friday! She likes Pizza Hut pizza, thin crust, and meat lovers. That's what we had, and it was yummy!
Shirley will be 90 this year. She has been sharing concerns about how big her house and yard are, etc. I have suggested an independent living facility (across the street from Mas Verde) for the last several conversations. On the spur of the moment, I asked if she wanted to go look at it. She agreed, so off we went.
The manager welcomed us (and said Shirley looks so familiar), gave us a tour, and showed us a lovely one-bedroom apartment. When we were sitting in her office talking, church came up. They go to the same church!! That's why the manager thought she knew Shirley. The atmosphere in the office changed, and they talked for another 20 minutes or so! I was so happy because it would be so good for Shirley. She can even have her dog there (there is a dog park). I can't push her, but I have such a good feeling about it. Shirley even has someone who might be interested in buying her house. Time will tell. Praying about it!!
My weekend has been very quiet. I filled up the car on Saturday and went to Publix for a prescription and a few BOGOs. Sunday was church and laundry. Lots of TV and relaxing!
I'm streaming the new season of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. I finished the book Penitence, by Kristin Koval. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. The ending dragged on and on for several chapters, and it never really ended. The first 2/3 of the book kept me interested. The last 1/3, not so much. Just me. I like to read for entertainment, which is why I probably prefer simple Cozy Mysteries and Janet Evanovich-type books. Just me...
Musing on... the coming week! I have a CT scan scheduled on Wednesday. It is a follow-up and nothing I am concerned about. Bible study and the Mas Verde dinner out on Thursday. That's it.
Father's Day did not include a celebration here, though my dad and Joe were on my mind. Joe loved his boys and was a great dad, full of fun. My dad was one of the best in every way that counts, with love at the top of the list. Blessed.
Thanks for stopping by!! Your comments are always appreciated!

These sorts of living transitions are so difficult but I hope it works out for your friend. What a God wink to find a church member waiting there for her. Hope all goes well with the CT scan and you have a. nice week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very profitable visit for your friend! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely feels like summer, we're heading into a little heatwave this week. That pizza looks so good! That is great that Shirley took a look at the independent living facility, I hope everything works out for her.
ReplyDeleteI really need to start watching Sweet Magnolias, it's been on my list forever.
Yum on the pizza! It sounds like you had a good visit with Shirley and perhaps she will give more thought about the independent assistive living community. Have a wonderful week, Terri.
ReplyDeleteGosh, that visit to the indie living facility sounds like a God wink! With all the rainfall, our yard's screeching for attention; I could go for one of those apartments right now, lol. Thanks for mentioning Sweet Magnolias; I'm already over World Cup.
ReplyDeleteI hope Shirley chooses the facility. That's awesome she,can bring her dog - that's half the battle. Yeah its summer here. Not my favorite season but I'm trying to focus on the summer things I really do like and not on the heat. Have a beautiful day, Terri.
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced that Shirley agreeing to see the independent living facility was definitely a God-ordained incident. How cool to find out that the director and she attend the same church? Wow! I'm sure she will make the right decision for her. Blessings, Terri!
ReplyDeleteI think if she can do it and everything seems to be working out - DO IT!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that the visit with Shirley turned out to be something maybe even "more" for her future. Praying that the right thing will work out for her. It's hard to be alone at that age, and this sounds like it would be a great location for her, right across the street from where you live! Yes, we are definitely into summer. Going to be a hot one today, and it looks like our rains are over for a few days. We got some, but still not nearly enough. It's a good time to stay indoors and keep cool and watch good things on TV or read some good books! Happy Summer!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, I agree with Chatty Crone's comment. I love the cat painting and the B.B. McKinney quote at the end of your post.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Martha's comment.
That sounds like a wonderful place for Shirley. I pray her house will sell easily.
