This Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in right HERE!

5-10-15-20 (25-30 Years of Love)

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9  questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: 5-10-15-20 (1970)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this week's song, The Presidents sing about a long married, very happy couple. Who is the longest married couple you know? Who is the happiest? Are they the same couple?   My friends, Al and Helen, were married 64 years when Al died.  A couple at church are at around 70 years.  They are amazing and are very happy in their healthy 90s.

2) The lyrics ask repeatedly: "Aren't we happy?" Are you feeling happy today? Why or why not?  I am a happy girl most of the time.  Why not be happy?  Find it!!  Unhappy is not the way to live.

3) This happy couple enjoys watching children at play. Is there a park, playground or schoolyard near you?  There are parks, playgrounds, and schoolyards all around me.

4) This song reminds Crazy Sam of when she used to recite the multiplication tables. Think back to your school days. Was math one of your favorite subjects?  Arithmetic and math are two different things, in my mind.  Math is not a favorite subject.  Adding and subtracting to keep books is easy for me, though.

5) The Presidents seems like a good name for a band formed in Washington DC. What would be an appropriate name for a band from your hometown?  Just the plain old Lakelanders.

6) DC trivia: The street names are letters, but J was skipped. That's because in the 1700s, the way many wrote their alphabet, "J" looked like "I" and so "J" was passed over to avoid confusion. Tell us something we may not know about your hometown (or state).    Lakeland has 38 lakes in the city limits.

7) In 1970, when this song was on the Billboard chart, The Mary Tyler Moore Show premiered on CBS. The theme song said Mary could "turn the world on with her smile," yet in real life, MTM was self-conscious about her "wide mouth." Are you comfortable looking at photos of yourself?  No. I am not photogenic at all.  One photo in 100 might be acceptable.  LOL

8) Also in 1970, Dinah Shore became one of the first women to host her own national daytime talk show. Today, Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore, Tamron Hall, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Ripa all have their own shows, and The Talk and The View are both hosted by women. Who is your favorite talk show host?  I have seen Kelly Ripa a few times back when Regis was with her, but those others are foreign to me. Not my favorite kind of show to watch, especially when they argue and put people down.

9) Random question -- Would you rather have a job that has you on your feet all day, or one that has you parked in a chair?  Parked in a chair, thank you very much!

Peace and Hugs!

At midnight, in the month of June,
I stand beneath the mystic moon.
An opiate vapor, dewy, dim,
Exhales from out her golden rim,
And, softly dripping, drop by drop,
Upon the quiet mountain top,
Steals drowsily and musically
Into the universal valley.

-- The Sleeper, by Edgar Allan Poe

  1. A few years ago one of our favorite local Preachers, Bro. Bill, had a good sermon on the difference between happiness and joy. I like his take on it: Happiness is superficial and temporary. Joy is eternal. I like that because the joy we have comes from Christ and can never be taken from us. Happiness comes and goes with the circumstances and really isn't important. That sermon changed my way of looking a life. So what if I'm not happy at this moment!? Give it a little while and it'll change again. Joy in Christ is forever so smile and keep going forward. Amen!?
If someone was to name a musical group after our area I guess it could be something like, Piney Woods or Horseflies. lol
Meant to mention the blog background is so pretty. Fits for your area.
Have a glorious day my friend! 💙

  2. I am not photogenic either, sigh. I agree with Sparky in ref. to her comment about happiness and joy. Have a beautiful day, Terri.

  3. I never knew about the J being skipped in street names.
I'm not photogenic either, I usually dislike my pics. I wonder if it's a female thing. I remember my mom saying the same and saying that my Dad's pics always look good.
I used to like Regis too, and Johny Carson, but I agree on talk shows today. They tend to be angry and political.

  4. Unlike my granddaughters, I've never been photogenic -- and give thanks for technology that lets me take as many selfies as I want before finding one that's acceptable. Right there with you on arithmetic; they lost me at Algebra 101.
Interesting questions n' answers, for sure. You make me want to play a little later myself!

  5. Being happy is a choice, for sure. Even when things are not what I wish them to be, I can have peace because I know everything will work together for good in God's time if we believe in Him.
    Blessings, Terri!

  6. True peace and happiness can only come from God...and I call that JOY. And even the "happiest" looking couples/people have their struggles and times of unhappiness, but if they have the peace that Jesus brings, they will still have JOY in their hearts. Hey, my parents were just shy of being married 64 years when my mother passed away. They were a happy couple and I was sure blessed to have them as my parents. My mother was beautiful and I thought she was very photogenic, but she strongly disliked most every picture taken of her and often would tear them up, which accounts for me not having that many pictures of her today. She died before the digital camera age, so there are no secret pictures hidden in my phone or camera that she never saw! I am thankful for the few that I managed to save. Oh, you and I are so much alike when it comes to math/arithmetic! I was a very poor math student, but like you ended up working as a bookkeeper for most of my career. I will say, however, I was greatly appreciative of the computer programs that I was able to use for my job! That did make it so much easier! LOL.
I hope you are enjoying a lovely and peaceful weekend!

  7. Regarding #9, I did not know there are so many talk shows with female hostesses right now, but then, I don't watch much daytime TV anyway. Interesting.
