Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 555
2. Something you remember from a 'simpler time'? Annual family reunions. Forty or so family members at pot-luck picnics. Serpent Mound Historical Park in central Ohio. All of my cousins together. Family reconnecting. Great food. Here are cousins Lana, Vicki, and Bob, with me on the right, at Serpent Mound.
3. Do you like squash? If so what's your favorite variety? What's a favorite way to prepare squash? I will eat squash but it is not something I purchase or prepare. It is not a favorite. It's mushy. There was a time when I often made zucchini bread but it's been years.
4. Do you shop at warehouse stores (such as Costco, Sam's B.J's, etc)? If so how often do you go, and what's something you always buy in this type of store? The only one we have in Lakeland is Sam's Club. Joe and I used to go once a week. It was close to our old house. He bought office supplies and sometimes clothing. We often needed pool supplies. We ate more sweets and breads back then. Now I go once every couple of months, mainly for rotisserie chickens. I also pick up other things but have found Amazon.com to be much easier.
5. Father's Day is this coming Sunday. Any plans to make the day special? No. Tell us something about your own father, or something about your hubs as a father, or about someone who stepped into your life and acted as a father if yours was not a part of your life.
My dad was one of the best. He was fun, firm, full of love, always proud of us, and welcomed our friends as part of the family. He worked at a job he didn't like to provide for us and did it well. We were happy he got to retire at age 55. He died much too soon, at age 63, from cancer. I still miss him. This was a photo for the church directory, a long time ago.
My Joe was a great dad to his boys. The three of them went through a terrible time when their wife and mother, Loretta, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died 16 months (or so) after the diagnosis. Their faith in God and the boys' faith in their dad got them through it. I count my blessings all the time to have been welcomed into their family and loved by them.
6. Insert your own random thought here. (Sorry Publix) Kroger delivery makes my life just a little easier. My order arrives today between 2:00 and 3:00. Just sayin'...

I think Simplicity Day is a good one!
ReplyDeleteI remember annual reunions. I wasn't thrilled about going to the ones on my moms side as they lived in upper michigan and we didn't really know them. Now I like to see them!
You had some great Dad's in your life. It's such a blessing!
I love the pictures of you and your family...both your original family and then your adopted family. You were certainly blessed with both families. Today is Simplicity Day? Whoever heard of that? Well, I'm in charge (with another lady) of the food for our monthly ladies' meeting today, and I've been working my little fingers to the bone cutting up fruit and veggies. Nothing simple about this day for me! LOL. We never had reunions when I grew up and I wish we had so we could've developed closer relationships with our cousins on my Mom's side. but they all lived too far away from us after we moved to Florida, so we rarely ever got to see them all. I stay in touch with some from a distance on Facebook, but we really don't know each other that well. I am really only close to my one cousin Becky on my Dad's side, because we grew up together, but she now lives in Ohio too. Oh well, such is life, and I am thankful for Facebook so we can stay in touch. I've never tried the Kroger delivery deal. I run to our local Hitchcock's weekly. Went to Publix yesterday, (which is 15 miles away) and their prices were so high I almost left the store, but had to get fresh fruit for this deal today. Wow! I'm still in sticker shock! But I knew their fruit would be nice and fresh, so I paid the price. No, life isn't very simple these days for people on a fixed income! I hope you have a lovely week. I enjoyed your post. Sorry to run on.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have grocery delivery where I am, in fact we don't even have pizza delivery. There are definitely days I wish for both! My dad also died too young. I know he's in a far better place, and I often think I'm glad he didn't live to see the turn our country has taken, but sill we miss him. Love your cousin pictures...we loved big extended family gatherings too. We were on the opposite coast of most of our cousins, but there were reunions now and then that were such a treat. Enjoy your day Terri!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't think it was a simpler time, not for me anyway. Things are much better for me now that the Old Man is gone. Some people just clutter up one's life with drama, pain, and suffering. He was one of them.
ReplyDeleteLove the old photos! They're great.
By the way, there are Russian War Ships off the coast of Florida "practicing" near Cuba. Hmmm ... y'all be careful. They're waiting for this Admin to be re-elected so they can have their war. Pray for peace, calm and that cooler heads will prevail.
Love & Hugs. 💙
I am sad that you had a troubled and hard childhood. I do count my blessings. Praise God that you and Steve found each other!
DeleteI so enjoyed seeing your old photos, Terri, and hearing about what good fathers you had in yours and in Joe as a great dad to those boys who love you. Blessings, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun photos, Terri! Especially I enjoyed seeing that sweet family from the church directory. Not so much Tom, but I loved my first taste of squash casserole last year; that's not something I'm interested in preparing just for myself.
ReplyDeleteLoved your response to #1. xo
Right after Beloved died, my renewal to Sam's Club was due. I did not continue with it since I knew I would no longer need large quantities of food as we did when all 3 kids still lived at home. Even Beloved and I didn't need enough to sustain our membership but we had not got around to acting on it. Also the Sam's Club in my town is an absolute bear of a traffic jam to enter and exit. But at times, I do miss going in there. One of my very close friends takes me on her membership when I ask. I appreciate that.
