This Week's Tuesday 4...

Always a big THANK YOU to Annie for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Animal Friends

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Let's talk about animals today!

1. What pets do you have or have you had? Do you have any now or if not, why not?  I grew up with a small black mixed-breed dog named Happy.  As a young adult, I had a collie named Sarge.  We also had cats at home when I was growing up so I have always had a cat (or cats) in my life.

2. How did you find names for your animal friends?  Happy was named by my little brother.  All he could say when we got her was "hap hap hap".  Cats were named however we thought they should be named.  What are their names?  Here in Florida (for 35 years)  I've had Amber, Inky, Missy, Max, Cookie, Onyx, Lilly, Lucy, Vinny, and Casper.  Vinny and Casper are still alive and well and living a good life with me.  At one time, Joe and I had five cats at one time.  We would lose one and pick up another.  Friends knew I was a sucker for a stray.  We moved to Mas Verde with three - Lucy, Lilly, and Vinny.  I lost the girls in 2022, six months apart, one to cancer and one to a failing liver.  Vinny needed another friend and Casper needed a home (his human died) - and he decided to stay.

3. Any special or funny story concerning pets you would like to share?  It could be someone else's as well as your own.  At our first house here in Lakeland (for 28 years) we had a pool that was screened in.  The five cats loved going outside around the pool and it was always funny when one of them fell in.  They can swim and never had trouble getting out but their expressions and their actions at being surprised and getting soaked were always entertaining.  It didn't happen often and only a couple of them fell in more than once.

4.   What benefit do you find in having animals in your family? What are the cons of having them?  The cons are the worry and expense when they get sick, and trying to make sure they are cared for when you travel (dogs travel better than cats).  The benefits are too numerous to list here but it is therapeutic to have them to care for and for company, especially now that I am alone here, except for them.  They can sure keep you grounded - and stuck in your chair!!

Peace and Hugs!

All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing,
"Alleluia! Alleluia!"

  1. Cats.. strange creatures often. I got two kittens who were sisters. Never ever got along. The bigger one made the other one constantly unhappy and would wack her.. Go figure.

  2. Love seeing your sweet kitties, and I am happy you have two of them to keep you company and keep each other company when you aren't there! I am not really a "cat person", although I love them, but I guess I'm just not really a good "pet person" at all. We've had dogs over the years, but even that was difficult because of our life style at the time and we just couldn't be the good pet parents that they needed us to be. So now we enjoy our "grandpuppies" and send them home with their parents when they are naughty, just like grandkids! LOL. Actually these pups are never really naughty...they are the sweetest pups I've ever known. I love your stories about the cats falling in the pool and the look on their faces...I can imagine. Once we did have two cats, and I tried to give them a bath...I learned really quickly about that...and never tried it again. LOL. I had scratches all over my neck and back where the one kitty tried to get away... I was not very experienced in "cat-ology" My sister is the cat person in the family.

  3. I can't believe someone can have cats on them and not be allergic - you are so lucky.

  5. I've never had cats except when we lived on the farm and we had barn cats and I always like them, well, whenever they let us get near them. lol

  6. I've had both cats and dogs over the years, Terri, and loved them all. We don't have any now due to vet bills and general cost, but it was a delight to see grand-pup, Finn, when the kids visited us the week before Easter.
    Have a blessed week!

  7. Cats and dogs are therapeutic. They can drain the finances but I make allowances in the budget to give them proper care. The love that's returned is far greater than the money and work it takes to keep them. Good post.
    Blessings.

  8. Darling names! I've never been owned by a cat, and didn't realize they can swim. After the initial shock that does sound comical. Our girls have cost us a pretty penny, but they're worth every cent; I hope I never have to be without a pet.
