First Things First...

| First High Heels by Amos Sewell |
Let's talk about firsts in your life.
1. Do you remember your first pair of grown-up style shoes, maybe high heels? How did that go? Mom let me get a pair of heels for Easter when I was in 7th grade. They were white patent leather and the heel was two inches!! I had to practice walking in them. I was only allowed to wear them (and hose) for church on Sunday.
2. When was your first date and do you recall their name and where you went and what you did? I am from a VERY small town in central Ohio. My sophomore year, I had a steady boyfriend (Archie). We couldn't drive yet so we only went to school functions. I lived a block from the school and he lived down the street from my house so we could easily walk to the school. I have no memory of where we went first. Probably a homecoming dance. We were both in the marching band. He played drums (I played trumpet).
3. Do you have any memories of your first job? I babysat twins the summer I was 13 years old. They were 11. I was paid $18.00 a week. I fed them breakfast, got to eat lunch with them, and also had to do some house cleaning. My first more responsible job was at the ice cream parlor when I was 16.
4. What do you remember about your first home away from Mom and Dad? I got married (the 1st time) 7 months after I graduated from high school so it was a very, very tiny one-bedroom apartment in Columbus, Ohio. We were both in school and working part-time.

Interesting questions. Always enjoyable as it makes me think about the questions in my life. :)
ReplyDeleteWorking in a ice cream parlor sounds like it would be a fun job!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun thinking about all those firsts! My first job was on a blueberry farm when I was 12. In my area, there was lots of farm work for young kids!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers Terri. I can't even remember most of that stuff from way back in my life.
ReplyDeleteWorking in an ice cream parlor would have been a treat! *lol* My first job was a summer job in a kennel in Mims. I was 15 and rode my bicycle from Titusville to Mims 4 or 5 days a week. I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post.
Blessings. xx
I, too, was in 7th grade when I got my first pair of 1/2" heels for my (church) confirmation. What a dweeb! It's a small miracle I didn't snap an ankle. Or worse. I know everyone thinks an ice cream parlor job would be the greatest, but I'm sure it was hard work. I'd have probably gained 50# the first summer!
ReplyDeleteFun answers. I honestly can't remember my first heels...never did like wearing them, still don't! LOL. You and I were both young when we got married! We really thought we were mature back then, and we were...when you look at 18 year old kids today...what a difference!! Fun times and good memories. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou chose your hubby well. My first only lasted 10 years. But that led me to my Joe, for which I am so thankful!!
DeleteI always forget the babysitting jobs...my mom made me do them and I never wanted to. I wasn't ready to work. I got a job of my choosing the next summer. Loved your answers! Have a nice week. ♥

I think I was also in 7th grade for my first high heels and only wore them to church. I babysat in the summer a lot in high school especially on weekends.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness I wish high heels were as comfy as when I was a teenager! I love the way they look but I try and find cute dress shoes that don't hurt my feet now! Its sure been a long time since my first job cooking fries and making milk shakes! McDonalds had really good strawberry shakes back then and I could have all I wanted without gaining weight lol. Now I want a strawberry milk shake!
ReplyDeleteI remember my first baby sitting job - $.50 an hour!! My first real job was wrapping presents at a local store for Christmas and then again for Mother's Day.
