Thanks to our hostess, Crazy Sam, for today's questions! You can join in HERE!
At Last
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: At Last (1960)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Etta James sings that "life is like a song." What song reflects how you feel about life these days? The Doxology: Praise God from Whom all blessings flow...
2) She is delighted to have found the love she has always dreamed of. Have you found true love to be the way you imagined it would be? Or has it surprised you? I found true love with Joe and it did surprise me, after a 10-year marriage that was not a loving one. Praise God for Joe in my life.
3) Etta's mother encouraged her to not just sing but perform a song, telling her daughter, "Even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it." Is there a singer whose performances often touch your heart? Alan Jackson's country gospel always gives me pause and I will sing along. Actually, any country gospel singer has that power!
4) As a teen, she was considered a gospel prodigy, and churches all around Los Angeles requested she "guest" at their services. Do you have a favorite religious song? Blessed Assurance is one of many and the first one I thought of.
5) "At Last" is one of the most often requested songs for the newlywed's first dance at the reception. What song reminds you of a sweetheart? The theme from Flashdance was the first song Joe and I danced to. It always makes me smile.
This is the last Saturday 9 before Valentine's Day so this morning we shall focus on the upcoming holiday.
6) It's been reported that millions of roses are grown specifically for Valentine's Day each year. What's your favorite flower? I like daisies but prefer that they be left growing in the ground.
7) The earliest recorded celebration of Valentine's Day was in Paris in the year 1400. Obviously, you weren't around for that one. What do you remember from one of your earliest, childhood Valentine's Day celebrations? I remember making shoebox Valentine mailboxes in elementary school and everyone brought in those silly valentines to put in everyone's box.
8) About 20% of pet owners say they give their dogs, cats, birds, or bunnies a Valentine. Is your pet getting something special on February 14? Nothing is more special than the good care they get every day.
9) Of all the professions, teachers are #1 when it comes to receiving Valentine cards. Did you ever have a crush on a teacher? No. Most of my teachers were women and the few males were not crush-worthy!! LOL
Peace and Hugs!!
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of his Spirit, washed in His blood

"Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blessed; Watching and waiting, looking above, filled with His goodness, lost in His love!"
ReplyDeleteI remember making those Valentine boxes too, just like you did. They were such fun to do and to get funny little Valentine cards from everyone was always a happy time...and we'd have a little party in our classroom, with cookies and punch and we'd go home all crazy from the sugar! LOL. Happy Memories!! Happy Valentine's Day to you! I hope you have a "Blessed Assurance" kind of week!
Great blog
ReplyDeleteYes - Blessed Assurance is a good one.
ReplyDeleteI like Etta James, she had some really good songs.
You take great care of your cats!
I enjoyed visiting today and reading your answers. One of my most favorite hymns is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and I also love "It Is Well With My Soul". Of course there are bunches more I love and I agree that "Blessed Assurance" is a great one too. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe sing the Doxology every Sunday. It lifts me too.
ReplyDeleteAlan Jackson is a great singer. I enjoy his music a lot.
In High School there was a male teacher that would be considered a "dream boat". I didn't have a crush but he did seem like a nice fella. His class was always informative, I do remember that.
Blessings. xx
Daisies are pretty flowers. Nice choice.
ReplyDeleteI love Blessed Assurance, too, Terri; it is certainly one of my favorites. When it comes to singing, I love hearing Danny's voice; hoping we will be able to sing in church again soon.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend!
I agree ... leave those daisies in the ground! You and Joe's first dance memory makes me smile -- didn't you say he thought it was a slow song?
ReplyDeleteI had a mad crush on my 7th grade history teacher; my BF and I learned where he lived -- so we'd walk past his house singing, "On the street where you live" from My Fair Lady. What a couple of nerds, ha!
I must have mentioned our first dance a bunch of times since you remembered that he thought it was a slow dance. Truth! I had to giggle at you and your friend singing as you walked past your handsome teacher's house! So junior high!! LOL
DeleteI caught one the concerts of Etta at the end of her career..she still could do it. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteI used to play Alan Jackson's gospel album and Randy Travis's for the dementia residents and both would move them to tears. Many of them would even sing along. And I'm talking about those who were pretty far gone down the road. It always gave me goosebumps to witness. I am glad God bought Joe to you. :) Have a blessed Sunday, Terri!
