Brandy
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: Brandy (1972)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song opens in a bar where lonely sailors reminisce about their homes. How long have you lived at your current residence? Five years. Does it feel like home? Absolutely!
2) Brandy is a waitress at the bar. Have you ever worked at a job where you received tips? Yes, in an ice cream parlor during high school summers.
3) Brandy wears a locket on a braided chain. Are you wearing any jewelry as you answer these 9 questions? Earrings and my watch.
4) According to the lyrics, the sailors seem to prefer whisky or wine. What's your go-to adult beverage? I'm not a frequent drinker but will have a glass of wine now and then, a beer if it is really cold, and won't say no to a margarita in a Mexican restaurant (if I'm not driving).
5) This song was such a big hit that, after its release, Brandy became a popular name for newborn girls. Do you know anyone named Brandy? Yes, I do but she spells it Brandi.
6) Barry Manilow scored a hit in 1974 with "Mandy." That song was initially called "Brandy," but it was changed to avoid confusion with this record. Do you have a favorite Barry Manilow song? I'm not a huge fan but do like Mandy. He does a lot of covers so nothing "his" really comes to mind.
7) In 1972, when this song was popular, residents of South Dakota endured a catastrophic flood when Rapid Creek overflowed. Give us a little geography lesson: what body of water is nearest you? Lakeland has over 30 lakes within the city limits but we are an hour from the Gulf of Mexico.
8) Also in 1972, the first women were permitted to run in the Boston marathon. Have you ever visited Boston? No. It has never been on my radar but I would probably enjoy a New England trip that included Boston.
9) Random summertime question: Would you prefer to swim in a pool, a lake/river, or the ocean? Here in Florida, definitely a pool. All the lakes and rivers have alligators in them and the ocean is fun to play and splash around in but I don't enjoy 'swimming' in the ocean. I enjoyed swimming in Buckeye Lake when I was growing up in Ohio. No gators there!!

Great answers. We used to swim in the lakes here in Florida, but there didn't seem to be so many gators back then. We never saw them when I was growing up. Now you couldn't pay me to swim in these lakes, unless there is a clear bottom. LOL.
ReplyDeleteA pool would be nice this summer! I wouldn't get in the water in any of the rivers around here...that's for sure! lol Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteNow I've got that song running through my head, Terri - lol! I do love to visit the ocean, but much prefer a pool for swimming.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Enjoyed reading your responses, Terri! Yes, to swimming in a pool, but no to swimming in the ocean or river. Brandy is now looping in my head and I am sure Mandy will be soon. Enjoy your Saturday!
ReplyDeleteTime to have a few good Alligator meals.. the population is getting out of hand.. Pool for me! :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, steer clear of any bodies of water I can't see the bottom. Once upon a time -- when I lived under a rock -- I had a mad crush on Barry Manilow. Naive, party of one!
ReplyDeleteI like to swim in pools, but the scenery of the beach is so pretty. Thankfully there are no alligators at our beaches! :)
ReplyDeleteNo lake or ocean swimming for me either ((grin))). That last graphic is cute, Terri. Smiles
