The Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's questions!!  You can join in right HERE!

Tuesday 4

Your Home Routine

Welcome to Tuesday 4 where we offer 4 questions of topics for you to discuss each week. Begun by Toni Taddeo, we keep it in her honor.

This week's topic is your home routines.

 1. What laundry products do you like to use or find best for you?  I buy my laundry soap at Dollar General. I get a gallon jug for $5.00 and it cleans as good as Tide.  I also use OxyClean.

2. Dryer, line, or combination of both?  I haven't had a clothesline since I lived at home during high school.  I know how good sheets smell when hung outside but that doesn't make up for the convenience of the dryer.

3. Do you have wood floors or carpeting and which is best?  Wood and tile except for the two guest rooms which have carpet.  I would prefer wood or tile over carpet, but the guestrooms are rarely used so the carpets are okay in those two rooms.

4. Housekeeping professionals give the following guidelines. Which do you follow? Do you have better ideas?

1. open windows first  Not in Florida
2. clear up clutter before cleaning.  Yes.
3. start in bedrooms first  I don't think that matters. I usually do bathrooms first.
4. give cleaning products time to work. Read directions...
5. Always sweep or vacuum before mopping  Of course.
6. use a toothbrush for hard to get at areas  I've done that
7. keep things on a central cart if you can Not a hotel...
8. dust everything  yep
9. vacuum your furniture often, mattresses once a month or so. I have never vacuumed a mattress but I do have mattress covers that are washable...

A cleaning company we hired a bunch of years ago said to start in a room and work around it clock-wise dusting, vacuuming, then wiping and/or mopping.  I do use the clock-wise thing, starting from the door.

Thanks for your visit today!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!

  1. Hmmm, I am about to an age where I am ready to hire someone to come in at least once a month and do a more deep cleaning. I can't do the vacuuming/mopping like I should, and hubby will do the basics but not get under things and in the corners like I'd like...seems we have to scramble to clean when company's coming, and then I am worn out. But I do have a weekly routine of cleaning bathrooms and general dusting, etc. I guess I do work clockwise around each room, just never thought about it that way before! LOL. (Not my favorite subject! LOL) I'm sitting here at my computer now looking around and thinking "I should be cleaning instead of sitting here at my computer so much!" But I enjoy visiting here... Have a blessed and clean day!

    1. As you know from reading my posts, we do have a lady (and her sister) who come once a month to do the floors and bathrooms better than I am able to do them but I keep us with the lite housekeeping in between.

  2. You made me smile at #7, "not a hotel". Some of the questions are kinda wonky, aren't they? But they result in entertainment and helpful information.

    Good answers.

  4. Cleaning??? Ugh! I just do what needs doing or what I can do. Some things I am unable to do any longer but I have good helpers here.

  5. It's crazy to want a neat and orderly house, but to hate cleaning, right? Yesterday, I tackled dust bunnies under the bed that had reproduced at an alarming rate, I'm ashamed to say. However, with vacuum and dust mop, I won that round! Just can't let it go that long in the future.
    Blessings, Terri!

  6. I loved your comments today.
I do have a lady that comes once a month to dust and vacuum and
by that time it really needs it. We do the rest.
Have a good Tuesday my friend.

  7. You are right about working around the clock in the room. I was not aware of that until the last 10 or 15 years.. It has made such a difference in the appearance and satisfaction. I used to flit from place to place before and nothing looked done at the end of a hard day of work.

  8. LOL-ing about "not a hotel"! I've never vacuumed a mattress ... or knew anyone who does. BTW, thanks for the Dollar General tip. Since you first mentioned it, I switched and love the $ savings!

  9. I have had to break down the cleaning to daily areas. That way I am not working all day on it. I do clean around a room, and as much as possible keep the cleaning products I need in the room. I have never been very good at the cart or tote of stuff. I actually wish I had a clothesline for sheets. In the spring, summer, and fall I wash and hang them to dry on my back deck. I have no idea what the neighbors think but on Mondays it is divine to lay down in my bed.

  15. I used to love hanging things out for smell, but they don't seem to get that smell in my neighborhood...and I have to pay attention because we have neighbors that burn brush or garbage and I've had a line full of laundry end up needing rewashed.

  16. I have clotheslines but don't use them as often as I would like.

  18. I would dry everything in the dryer if I could. My clothes will shrink if I do not hang them. Loved your answers! Have a nice week!
