So Emotional
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: So Emotional (1987)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Whitney sings that she keeps her lover's photo beside her bed. What's on your bedside table? Alarm clock, phone, Kindle, Bible, a basket full of junk I should probably toss, and a lamp.
2) She's getting frustrated, waiting for the phone to ring. If your phone were to ring right now, who would you expect to be on the other end? I'm waiting for a call from my cousin, Lana, who lives in Kentucky and just had a hip replacement.
3) The video was filmed at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA. It seats 6,200. As the nation reopens from Covid19, would you feel comfortable sitting knee-to-knee with a stranger in an arena like this? No, but not necessarily because of the C-19. I don't like being in crowds, period.
4) This week's featured artist, Whitney Houston, appeared on the daytime drama As The World Turns. She played herself, performing with Jermaine Jackson at the Miss Cinderella contest in the fictional town of Oakdale. Have you ever been hooked on a soap opera? Oh my goodness, yes. When I was in high school and soaps were only 30 minutes, as soon as I got home from school (a block away) I would turn on All My Children at 3:00, then One Life to Live, then General Hospital (Luke & Laura!) at 4:00, and Dark Shadows came on at 4:30. During commercials, I would work on getting dinner things done for mom or do any chores she left for me. She was usually home by 5:00 and Dad by 5:30. I'm sure doing homework would have been a better choice of time management, but I was hooked on those soaps. During football season, it was awful to have marching band practice right after school. If you watch soaps, though, you know if you miss a week or so, it isn't hard to catch up.
5) Whitney had a sweet tooth, and her favorite breakfast cereal was Fruity Pebbles. Do you often eat cereal for lunch or dinner? I am not a cereal lover and avoid it whenever possible. You will find Raisin Bran Crunch in the pantry, which I will eat when in a hurry, and Honey Nut Cheerios, which Joe likes with a banana sliced with it. I will eat cereal if I have to.
6) At Whitney's wedding to Bobby Brown, her bridesmaids all wore lavender dresses and the groomsmen had custom made alligator shoes. Have you ever "stood up" for a friend or relative? Yes! If so, do you remember what you wore? I was in my BFF Elaine's wedding and here is what I wore...

7) In 1987, the year this song was popular, Cher won the Oscar for Moonstruck. Her most famous line was, "Snap out of it!" When you think of Cher, do you first think of her movies, her TV show, or her music? I probably think of the Sonny & Cher show first, then her music, but Moonstruck is one of my all-time favorite movies.
8) Michael Douglas won the Oscar that year for Wall Street. His most famous line was, "Greed is good." His character goes on to say that, "Greed in all its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of all mankind." Do you agree? I had a long paragraph written but decided it was a silly answer that went in circles. Let's just say I agree but I don't agree. I will look forward to seeing what others answered!
9) Random question: When you woke up this morning, were you ready to get out of bed? Or do you wish you could have snoozed for a bit longer? Unless I have an appointment or Joe has an appointment early we stay in bed as long as we want to (or as long as the cats will let me). Retirement has some benefits!
Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs! God bless you!

Loved reading your answers. I also used to watch "All My Children" back in the early 70's when Benton was a baby. It came on at 1:00, and I would put the baby down for a nap and then I would watch All My Children while I folded diapers and baby clothes. (I didn't use Pampers except for when we traveled away from home. They weren't that popular yet back then, and too expensive to use all the time). I was very hooked on the show and that was kind of my "me time" to relax and watch. A friend from my church also watched it at the same time. We both had a baby the same age. After the show we would call each other up on the phone and talk about what happened. Then she got spiritually convicted of watching it and told me she couldn't watch anymore and she didn't want me to tell her anything about it. I was heart broken. But then I also realized that it was becoming a kind of "addiction" and decided to give it up as well. It wasn't as much fun to watch when my friend wouldn't enjoy sharing it with me anymore. And so I never watched it again. But I had in the meantime gotten my parents hooked on watching it when I would visit them, and so they watched it for many years. I felt guilty about getting my parents "hooked"! LOL. I'm not quite that "legalistic" anymore, but I still don't watch soap operas. (Do they still have them?) So now you know my "true confessions" of my sinful past. LOL. Sorry to take up so much space, but this post just brought back that memory and I thought you would get a kick out of it. Have a fun and happy day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and yes, they are addictive. My grandfather always went home for lunch so he could watch As The World Turns (I think that was it), so it's not just the women who get hooked!!
DeleteI have a lamp, a sound machine, clock on my bedside table. Liked Whitney and Cher in their day and time. I was never a soap opera fan for some reason. And was never a bridesmaid. Hope you have a good Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBeing in a never ending shutdown here with no place to go, has benefits (sleeping in), just saying. (((grin)))
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Days of our Lives as a young adult - just got sucked into it! Loved the photo of you as a bridesmaid, Terri. Glad you shared that here!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
In high school I watched those Soaps too. Dark Shadows was my fave.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
We have Raisin Bran Crunch in our pantry. There are 3 cereals Tom enjoys and I rotate them for variety. The others are Frosted Flakes and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I enjoy oatmeal.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of you in BFF's wedding are beautiful and nostalgic.
Oh I remember watching "our stories" from childhood. My mother always watched the CBS soap, As the World Turns and Guiding Light. I was hooked on All my Children, Days of our Lives and Another World. But gradually I lost interest in them. And others must have as well since only one or two are even on these days. I hate to think what the themes would be now!
ReplyDeleteI know!! It was horrible when Luke raped Laura and that was WAAAAY back in the 60s! They were teenagers then. I remember magazine headlines about it!
DeleteWe've done a turnabout here and it is usually me that wakes the critter up and makes her go outside in the mornings. She is not amused. lol Have a blessed day, Terri!
ReplyDeleteI do not like crowds either and I like your answer for #8. Loved your answers. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Terri-
ReplyDeleteI’m Bud (you probably know me) and I launched both Saturday 9 & Sunday Stealing. I’m starting a new one and like you to join us for our premier week fir Monday Madness. (http://mmwithjudd.blogspot.com) this week. We will not ask stupid (What are you wearing?) or yes or no ones. It will be 10 questions every week. I’m pleased to let you know that I am partnering with The Queen of Memes, Mimi Lenox on this blog. That’s it. Stay safe & health & healthy.
Bud
Thanks, Bud. I will check it out!!
DeleteBetween the dogs and my bladder (TMI?) I no longer know what it feels like to sleep in! Used to LOVE Sonny and Cher back in the day! That, and Days of Our Lives. Sometimes we forget to turn off the TV after the noon news and Days comes on. Darn if I don't go recognizing some of the original cast members! But I sure do miss MacDonald Carey's melodic voice into.
