1. Did you watch the solar eclipse? No. Your thoughts? It was cloudy and we were not in a good place to see it, even if it hadn't been cloudy. We just noticed that it got a little darker like it would if it was going to rain. Sun Chips, Moon Pies, Starburst candies, a Blue Moon beer, a Sunkist orange, or a Milky Way candy bar...what's your favorite eclipse related snack on this list? I'll have to go with Sunkist orange. These photos were in our newspaper yesterday:
2. What are you 'over the moon' about these days? At the risk of repeating myself...being retired has me 'over the moon'!! What's something you enjoy doing every 'once in a blue moon'? Going to the movies. I'm not a big fan of movie theaters but if the movie sounds really good, I am happy to go.
3. Tell us about something in the realm of science that interests you. How do you feed that interest? I am always interested in reading about forensics, especially the study of mummies or bodies found frozen from hundreds of years ago. If archeology is a science (archaeometry), I also love that. I feed the interest by reading about new discoveries, etc.
4. What are a few things you remember about going back to school as a child? We always had to have that first day of school picture taken. I really don't remember being nervous or scared. I loved school, actually. 1962....... dress codes were a little different from today!!
5. I've seen several versions of this around the net so let's make one of our own...share with us five words that touch your soul and briefly tell us why.
Love touches my soul in so many ways, including faith, family, friends, pets...
Kindnesses shown to me or a loved one always touch my soul...
Peaceful moments feed my soul by allowing me to just listen...
Laughter feeds my soul! Who doesn't feel great after a good laugh...
Home is where my soul is at rest and where it is fed by all of the above and more...
6. Insert your own random thought here. We are getting excited about our trip north and getting to see family and friends. We have allowed some extra time on our trip up so we can take our time and make a couple of stops along the way to visit with friends. If you live close to I-75 between Florida and Ohio and have any interest in a cup of coffee with Joe and me, please give me your email address so we can connect!! We already have plans to stop above Chattanooga for a late breakfast with Lynda H.

Joe and I had haircut appointments yesterday afternoon, back-to-back. We have an appointment this afternoon to talk to 'Mario' at Lakeland Funeral Home to make pre-arrangements for our funerals. We don't want our boys to be burdened with making decisions for us, so we are making them now. It will also help Joe or me should one of us go first. Not a pleasant thing, but we believe it is a necessary thing. We also have living wills and have named power of attorneys and health care surrogates. My advice to everyone is to at least have a serious conversation with your loved ones if you can't get it done legally just yet.
I loved and still do love, the old fashioned dress code for school. Wish it was more that way today. As for funerals, arrangements, etc., I totally recommend one does it NOW. At the time one dies, there are many emotions and decisions are hard. Making them in advance is a gift to your loved ones. We have ours completely done, and our children have no question as to what we want. Everyone will die. Yes, it is hard for some to talk about, but oh so necessary. I pray your trip north is exactly what you want it to be, and I wish it were possible to see you this trip....maybe next time. love & hugs
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip north, don't you want to come another 4 1/2 hrs. to our area? (from Columbus its 4 1/2 hrs. giggling).

I didn't see the eclipse either. I was too busy and those glasses were hard to find around here.

We got to see some of the eclipse here in SW Florida....For once no clouds just a blue sky. It was very strange. Though it didn't get dark of course, there was a strangeness - kind of dusky, and the temp dropped. Really appreciate how beautiful our world is when on full beam!
ReplyDeleteDress Codes - - - the boy's hair was not allowed to touch his collar. We had one gorgeous blonde haired guy in early high school. He had let his hair grow longer - - it fell in his eyes. Our no nonsense math teacher put a hair clip on the side to keep it out of his face!!! She was one of our best teachers and would definitely think the PC stuff of this society was nonsense.

ReplyDeleteWe did get glasses and watched the eclipse - but we were 97% - I think I saw the whole affect on tv better.
I go with the moon pies - I am bad.
I love the things you said you did as a child - things have changed so much now. So much simpler.

My dad and step-mom have made their final arrangements, too. They didn't want any of us having to do it. I appreciate it but I don't want to discuss it with them. The trip up north sounds like fun and taking your time to stop and visit is the best way to go! I'm not a fan of going to the movies either. The other people ruin it for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteArcheology is a science I actually considered and it plays well with the earth sciences. Forensics is fascinating and I read a lot of very detailed mysteries, but in real life I don't think I'd have the stomach for it.

We have taken care of most of it although I think we should write down some idea of the kind of service we would like to help the surviving spouse with that. I hope your trip is wonderful. Would love to have coffee with you and Joe, but I don't live anywhere near there! I liked your five words.

Well your 'random' is good advice, Terri. Re. movies, Kevin and I just watched a rather odd movie with Michael Kitchen (whom we love in Foyle's War!) called 'Dandelion Dead.' It's so interesting to watch him in that role! I loved your five words and their meaning to you. And yes, dress codes have sure changed! When I was in high school, we had to wear dresses and they couldn't be too short. And that was in a public school! Have a wonderful time on your trip north. I'm so glad you're retired and don't have to rush. Love your page decorations!

You are very wise to do the funeral arrangements - and it's such a blessing to those who have to take care of things when it does happen. We should work on ours.
ReplyDeleteGood for you in planning ahead. Since my father in law passed away hubs and I have been talking some about the need to do that as well. I'm not off 75, but am close to 85. You don't get on 85 at all do you? I didn't think of a movie in a theatre, but we only do that once in a blue moon too.
ReplyDeleteI live 45 minutes from I-75 but if you are not coming into Ohio, I would be too far away. I am to have a hip surgery so I probably will not be going anywhere for a while. No looking forward to it. Have a fun trip. You know, our leaves are beginning to turn. Unbelievable!

ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the eclipse either, it was partial here and I have seen partial eclipses before. My school days were not enjoyable, we moved around too much. I enjoy your hodgepodge posts when I get to come read them. I too am planning a trip hopefully in the not too far future to visit my sister. I have not driven over 20-25 miles in several years so I am hoping me and my dog do well on the almost 400 mile trip. I know angels will be watching over me. You and Joe have a great trip and be safe. Hugs and blessings
