A Summer Place
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
6) In 1965, one of the brothers sold his share of the business to his brother for cash so he could buy a VW Beetle. Tell us about a time you had buyer's remorse. I'm beginning to wonder about buying a new house! Ha! I guess buyer's remorse would have to be over a pair of slacks that fit okay at the store but ended up being uncomfortable when I wore them. Should have taken them back....
9) Random question: You're at dinner with a married couple who begins to fight. Would you intercede and try to make peace? Or would you just sit back stay out of it? I might try to make a joke if I could, but basically I would probably sit back and let them have at it. I might also excuse myself for a trip to the restroom (and invite "her" to go with me). Embarrassing.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
Saturday 9: A Summer Place (1960)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song highlights the soundtrack from the movie A Summer Place, which is about two teenage lovers named Molly and Johnny. Did you ever have a youthful summer romance? If so, what was his/her name? I had a crush on an upperclassman when I was a freshman in high school. Since this is about summer, I also had a crush on another upperclassman when I was working at the ice cream parlor. I'm not naming names, though! LOL
2) The "summer place" of the song/movie is a resort along the Maine coast. What "summer place" are you day dreaming about this winter morning? I don't have to dream about a summer place in the winter. I live in Florida! It is 80° today.
3) In the movie, Johnny was played by Troy Donahue, who is remembered as nice looking but not terribly talented. Can you think of one of today's actors who you could describe as "nice looking but not terribly talented?" Seriously, I just don't pay that much attention to Hollywood and actors.
4) Molly is played by Sandra Dee, a perky blonde who was one of 1960's bankable movie stars. Two other blondes -- Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds -- joined Sandra Dee in the Top 10. The only brunette to sell a lot of movie tickets that year was Elizabeth Taylor. Do you believe men find blondes more attractive than brunettes or redheads? Since I've always been a blonde (until I turned gray) I don't think men found me more or less attractive because of my hair.
5) "A Summer Place" was by far the best-selling record of 1960. Also in 1960, two brothers in Ypsilanti, Michigan, opened a pizza place called Dominck's. That was the beginning of a chain now known as Domino's. What's the last food you had delivered to your front door? Pizza is the only food we can have delivered here in Lakeland (other than Jimmy John's subs), so pizza is my answer.

7) In 1960, novelist Ernest Hemingway returned to the United States from Spain and settled in Ketchum, Idaho. Tell us about the last book you read. Was it a novel or non-fiction? I always read novels. Not much into non-fiction since I read solely for entertainment and escapism.
8) In December 1960, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was baptized in theGeorgetown University Chapel. His godparents were Charles and Martha Bartlett, the couple who originally introduced young John's famous parents. Do you have godparents? No. I was baptized in the Presbyterian church and raised Methodist. When I converted to Catholicism, Joe was my 'sponsor' but I did not have Godparents.

Thanks for your visit today! Picture me cleaning out and packing the dining room. I have to finish it this weekend! Peace & hugs!

Oh, I hate when something looks good or feels good when you try it on at the store, but then in the wearing turns out to be awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm only a little jealous of your weather today. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 60s here today.
Stacy may be jealous of your weather, but I'm jealous of hers. Only in the 40s here. Hope you get everything packed up with very little difficulty.
ReplyDeleteUgh on 80 (giggling)---and also giggling over #4...I am a bottled brunette (thanks to turning gray when I was in my 20's)--my husband and son both prefer brunettes or redheads.
ReplyDeleteI remember that movie very well....:-) We are almost there with you, weather wise, and it is very unusual. Just remember, packing isnt fun, but once you are in the new house, and unpacked, you will be smiling big!
ReplyDeleteThis is always the worse time in buying selling one's home. Always second thoughts, but this too shall end.
ReplyDelete80 degrees sounds nice. In 40's + foggy here this morning.
ReplyDeleteHope you get lots of packing done this weekend
I think crushes are more fun that the real thing in the teenage years Terri. You can have a wonderful boyfriend in your mind while the "real thing' might be disappointing.:) I have never seen a Summer Place but I have heard the song.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I had the normal amount of crushes in school too. They came to nothing, of course, because they're usually based on something that won't last (like looks).
ReplyDeleteI'm a natural, curly blonde but it seems to be darkening as I age. No grey yet at almost 61, which is surprising. When it does, I'll probably just go with it.
Hope the packing is going well and there's no more glitches with the move. ~:)
I enjoyed all your answers and your thoughts on buying a new house. But I am so with you on the bickering couple. It's a horrid situation and I too would start first by making a joke. -)) xo
ReplyDeleteI remember this movie and the song. A lovely song that brings back memories. I'm always hesitant to remove tags from new clothes because I've had that happen too many times.
ReplyDeleteI know you're busy, busy, but it makes me sort of wish we were moving so that I would be forced to clean out and sort through almost 40 years of marriage. Mercy, we have so much junk! HOPE you get the dining room all packed up this weekend!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your packing. Glad you were able to take a little break and take us back in time to the 60's and "A Summer Place". Sigh...summer romances...hmmm, did I have any? Can't think of any. Most of my "romances" were during the school year with boys at my school. Summertime often was the season for breaking up. LOL. Those were the days....I'm glad they ended...LOL
ReplyDeleteBorn and raised in the Lutheran church, I never realized other churches don't observe the role of "Godparent." Thrilled to learn last year (that) one of my Godfather's is still enjoying life in an Iowa nursing home!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've fallen into the, 'What on earth was I thinking?' buyer's remorse about clothing -- more than once. Returning stuff is such a PAIN, however. I usually hung onto whatever, and hid it at the very BACK of my closet.
Hope you're not over-doing it with the packing!
Hope you got the packing done. 80 degrees sounds wonderful. Freezing here - literally.
