Weekend Recap on Monday....

We had a great weekend away, but I still couldn't shake the feeling that I should be at home packing! Ha!

It was good seeing Tammy and Bruce.  Bruce continues to make progress with this therapy. It's been a little over two years since his stroke.  He has come such a long way from being nearly comatose. He walks fine, though has to use the walker because his vision is still a problem. He can carry on a conversation so much better now.  When he is rested and not excited, he does much better with complete sentences. He is happy and motivated and my sister has been such a good caregiver.  She is a rock, but she really needs a break.

Joe stayed with Bruce while we got out for some shopping and errands on Saturday morning, which was nice for us to have some sister time, but she really just needs a break.   Bruce's kids are fairly close by and do stop in now and then. One of his daughters and a great-granddaughter came for dinner with us Saturday night, but they don't offer to take him for a day or to come stay for a day. I hope they can get away in a month or so and come down to see our new house.  Bruce travels pretty well.  They have doctor appointments at the VA clinic in Gainesville, FL and we are only another two hours from there, so it's manageable for them to visit.

It was fun getting to know Tammy's cat, Fuzzy.  She enjoyed being spoiled by "aunt Terri".  Fuzzy is actually a sister to our Vinny and is just now allowed to be in the house.  She is such a good cat!!

The roof is done on our current house.  It looks weird to us since we have always had a dark green roof and our buyers chose a lighter color shingle.

We are hopeful that we can close on our new home by the end of this week, or at least by the first of the following week.  There is lots to get done over there before we start moving in.  Planning a garage sale for Saturday, the 18th.  The push is on!!!!

Glad to have today off from work!!  Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!

  2. All caretakers need a break. Been there, done that. I hope someone steps up to the plate to help your sister and brother-in-law.

Moving is coming up quickly. It's exciting but a lot of work!

  3. Wish I could come to your yard sale. Ms. Melanie is having one, too. I just need to visit Florida! ☺ Glad you had a great weekend. I bet you'll get lots done today!

  4. Sounds like you had a nice visit. Hope someone gives your sister a break. That has to be so hard.

  5. Sounds like we both had fun weekends. I am so glad your BIL is doing better. And yes, care givers need a break. Is home health available for your sister? They were very helpful to my parents when my dad was sick. Hoping you get that closing under your belt this week. I can't wait to see pictures of your new place.

  6. It was nice to hear about the visit with your sister. Caregiving of a loved one is a hard task, physically and most of all...emotionally. My dear friend took care of her husband for 11 years. Stokes had left him an invalid, she was so brave and diligent with his care, but she was also very tired. Just pray your sister can find a way to take a break.

  7. So glad to hear your trip was good, and that Bruce is doing well. I totally understand that Tammy needs a break. Sometimes I think the caregiver has it harder than the one being cared for. I am never away from Jim and the few times I go to Walmart is like a vacation! Sure hope they get to visit you and your new home. Glad you had the day off, to rest (hahaha) and pack...time is drawing nigh for sure. xoxox

  9. Busy time for you, Terri. Good luck on that packing. I'm still unpacking and we've been here for 4 months now, LOL. Nice to see Bruce doing well. So happy for Tammy and Bruce. It's a long long struggle, and a huge challenge to live the the changes to your body that a stroke brings. God bless them both.

  10. So glad you could see Tammy and Bruce and hear of his remarkable progress when you consider where he was two years ago. Enjoy your day off, Terri, but i suspect there will be little down time since moving is a huge project!

  11. It is tough being a caregiver. I pray that they both can rest and enjoy this nice weather soon.
The new roof looks sharp. I'm a tin roof gal myself. Really spoiled with our new one.
Glad y'all are back all safe and sound. ~:)

  12. This was a nice positive post. Being a caregiver is hard job. When my father lived with my brother, I would drive down to NJ from Connecticut to pick up my dad and bring him to our house for a week to give my brother a break. When the role was reversed and Dad came to live with us for good, not one of my 4 brothers offered to give us a break.

  14. Caregivers are SO under-rated! Fortunately, when Tom was going through chemo and radiation his sis was here, allowing me to continue working full time. (Tom's son and daughter are pretty much wrapped up in their own lives).

It sounds like your few hours away Saturday morning was just the ticket. You're wonderfully intuitive.

  17. Bless your dear sister. It would be wonderful if his children would do more to give her a break.

Thinking about doing work before you move into your new house reminds me of the time we bought a big farmhouse in which we were going to be doing bed and breakfast. We were transforming a huge storage room into a family-sized B&B room - an enormous job that we were doing ourselves in addition to our regular work and family life and activities. We settled on the house 3 weeks before we moved in on May 16 and had guests already booked for Memorial Day weekend. We worked until after midnight many nights as our children went to sleep in sleeping bags, then we had to rouse them to go home to the house we were still living in, and then there was school and work in the morning. I don't know how we kept going, but we were much younger then!
